Closest horizons of Hsp70 engagement to manage neurodegeneration

Our review seeks to elucidate the current state-of-the-art in studies of 70-kilodalton-weighed heat shock proteins (Hsp70) in neurodegenerative diseases (NDs). The family has already been shown to play a crucial role in pathological aggregation for a wide spectrum of brain pathologies. However, a slender boundary between a big body of fundamental data and its implementation has only recently been crossed. Currently, we are witnessing an anticipated advancement in the domain with dozens of studies published every month. In this review, we briefly summarize scattered results regarding the role of Hsp70 in the most common NDs including Alzheimer’s disease (AD), Parkinson’s disease (PD), and amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). We also bridge translational studies and clinical trials to portray the output for medical practice. Available options to regulate Hsp70 activity in NDs are outlined, too

The number of the intraepithelial T cells correlate with the proliferation index in human bulbourethral gland epithelium

Background: Our study has immunohistochemically examined T cells localization and number as well as proliferative activity level for the bulbourethral gland epithelium in men of different ages, using monoclonal antibodies against CD45RO and proliferating cell nuclear antigen (PCNA). Results: We have found that the T cells have been localized mainly in excretory ducts epithelium of the glands in any age group, meanwhile their relative number varies with age. The excretory ducts epithelium has shown a high proliferative activity when in acini the PCNA index has been low. Postnatal dynamics of the epithelium proliferative activity positively correlates with age-related density fluctuations in lymphocytic infiltration of the glands. Conclusions: We consider that intraepithelial T cells may contribute to the regulation of epithelial cells proliferation in the bulbourethral glands

Pt(IV) chloropentaammine phosphate was studied in details using IR and UV-Vis spectroscopy, X-ray powder diffraction, differential thermal and elemental analysis. Crystal structure of the complex was solved from powder diffraction data. 195Pt and 14N NMR spectra of [Pt(NH3)5Cl]3+cation were obtained and interpreted for the first time.

    Roadmap on holography

From its inception holography has proven an extremely productive and attractive area of research. While specific technical applications give rise to 'hot topics', and three-dimensional (3D) visualisation comes in and out of fashion, the core principals involved continue to lead to exciting innovations in a wide range of areas. We humbly submit that it is impossible, in any journal document of this type, to fully reflect current and potential activity; however, our valiant contributors have produced a series of documents that go no small way to neatly capture progress across a wide range of core activities. As editors we have attempted to spread our net wide in order to illustrate the breadth of international activity. In relation to this we believe we have been at least partially successful. This work was supported by Ministerio de Economía, Industria y Competitividad (Spain) under projects FIS2017-82919-R (MINECO/AEI/FEDER, UE) and FIS2015-66570-P (MINECO/FEDER), and by Generalitat Valenciana (Spain) under project PROMETEO II/2015/015

Evaluation of the bovine tendon decellularization method in the development of a cruciate ligament prosthesis

Introduction. Ligaments play a critical role in the body, linking bones together. Ligament ruptures are the most common manifestations of serious musculoskeletal injuries. This is especially true for the anterior cruciate ligament of the knee joint. In trauma surgery, orthopedics, the ligament functional recovery can be achieved by using tissue autografting, synthetic and biological prostheses. Of great interest to surgeons is the use of prostheses made of biological tissues of animal origin, since they are easily available and, when high-quality processing is achieved, they are safe, retaining their natural structure and strength. Purpose of the study. To decellularize the bovine tendon according to our originally developed technique and to investigate its efficacy in terms of the presence of cellular elements and physical and mechanical parameters of the material. Material and methods. To manufacture the prototype of the ligament prosthesis product, we developed the technique for processing the bovine tendon, as the most similar material by structure, including its mechanical processing, chemical and physical processing methods and a special treatment with supercritical carbon dioxide fluid containing nonionic surfactant Tween-80 for decellularization and extraction of organic components in addition to collagen framework, while maintaining strength properties. Histological studies were performed to check for the residues of cellular elements, and the measurements of the physical and mechanical properties of the material were made. Results. Histological examination of the material showed that after processing, 0–2 cells in the field of view were found in the material. The strength properties of the material were 503 kgf/mm2 before processing and 605 kgf/mm2 after processing. Conclusion. The data obtained in the study confirmed that the processing performed qualitatively affected the elimination of cells, did not worsen but even increased the mechanical strength of the material. Further study of the biocompatible properties of the material is required
