How close are time series to power tail L\'evy diffusions?

This article presents a new and easily implementable method to quantify the so-called coupling distance between the law of a time series and the law of a differential equation driven by Markovian additive jump noise with heavy-tailed jumps, such as α\alpha-stable L\'evy flights. Coupling distances measure the proximity of the empirical law of the tails of the jump increments and a given power law distribution. In particular they yield an upper bound for the distance of the respective laws on path space. We prove rates of convergence comparable to the rates of the central limit theorem which are confirmed by numerical simulations. Our method applied to a paleoclimate time series of glacial climate variability confirms its heavy tail behavior. In addition this approach gives evidence for heavy tails in data sets of precipitable water vapor of the Western Tropical Pacific.Comment: 30 pages, 10 figure

The stochastic background from cosmic (super)strings: popcorn and (Gaussian) continuous regimes

In the era of the next generation of gravitational wave experiments a stochastic background from cusps of cosmic (super)strings is expected to be probed and, if not detected, to be significantly constrained. A popcorn-like background can be, for part of the parameter space, as pronounced as the (Gaussian) continuous contribution from unresolved sources that overlap in frequency and time. We study both contributions from unresolved cosmic string cusps over a range of frequencies relevant to ground based interferometers, such as LIGO/Virgo second generation (AdLV) and Einstein Telescope (ET) third generation detectors, the space antenna LISA and Pulsar Timing Arrays (PTA). We compute the sensitivity (at 2σ2 \sigma level) in the parameter space for AdLV, ET, LISA and PTA. We conclude that the popcorn regime is complementary to the continuous background. Its detection could therefore enhance confidence in a stochastic background detection and possibly help determine fundamental string parameters such as the string tension and the reconnection probability.Comment: 21 pages, 11 figures ; revised version after correction of a typo in eq. 4.

Course of neuromyelitis optica during inadvertent pregnancy in a patient treated with rituximab

In neuromyelitis optica (NMO), the monoclonal B-cell antibody rituximab is a therapeutic option. Little is known about the course of NMO and the safety of rituximab during pregnancy. In this study, we report the clinical course of a patient with NMO after application of rituximab 1 week before inadvertent conception. Mother and child did not experience any adverse event, and the postpartum development of the baby was completely normal up to 15 months. Clinical course of NMO was stable during the entire pregnancy. This case illustrates a favorable outcome in a pregnant NMO patient and her child after therapy with rituximab

Redesign Interior Rumah Sakit Hewan Universitas Airlangga Surabaya

Animals that treated and loved may suffer from disease and require special care. One of the best solutions is visiting the Animal Hospital. It is a center for animal health with complete rooms and facilities in accordance with the provisions. Animal Hospital of the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of Airlangga University (UNAIR) is one of the hospital that serve the community in the field of animal health. Unfortunately, the existence of this animal hospital is rarely known by the people of Surabaya. Several rooms at UNAIR Animal Hospital due to its low appearances and performances such as bleak look, low standard, damage on several interior elements and inappropriate function in rooms design. By rearranging the location and function of the room and redesign the colors and shapes in accordance with the brand image of the hospital blue and yellow on interior elements and furnishings that symbolize trust and warmth in accordance with the vision of the hospital and the application of professional and modern concepts. Redesign and rebranding are expected to improve the quality of animal hospital , staff efficiency, and public interest. Design method used is through design thinking, including observation, brainstorm, prototype, and implementation

Sementara itu variabel motivasi kerja dan kepuasan kerja berpengaruh positif dan signifikan bersama-sama terhadap komitmen organisasional karyawan

Smart and networking underwater robots in cooperation meshes : the swarms ECSEL : H2020 project

    Get PDF
The work presented on this paper is aimed to explain the role that unmanned underwater vehicles (AUVs/ROVs) plays in the ECSEL-H2020 SWARMS project. The main goal of the project is to reduce the operational cost and increase the safety of tasks assigned to divers in these operations. This will be achieved enabling the AUVs/ROVs to work in a cooperative mesh. The challenge is to design and develop an integrated platform (a set of Software/Hardware components), incorporated into the current generation of underwater vehicles in order to improve autonomy, cooperation, robustness, cost-effectiveness, and reliability of the offshore operations. The first demonstration of the project will be performed at PLOCAN (Oceanic Platform of the Canary Islands) where these technologies will be validated on its first stage.Peer Reviewe

The Correlation between Fifth Grade Students Reading Comprehension and Writing Attitudes

    Get PDF
The purpose of this study was to examine the nature of the correlation (high, medium, or low) between reading comprehension and writing attitudes of fifth grade students. There were 56 fifth grade students enrolled in an urban, public New York elementary school. The students were in an intense writing program for the school year to prepare them for the Writing PEP Test to be administered at the end of that school year. The researcher compiled a list of reading comprehension scores obtained from each student\u27s fourth grade Degrees of Reading Power (DRP) Test. During the twentieth week of school, each student was given the Linn Opinions about Writing Survey. The data were used to determine the nature of the correlation (high, medium, or low) between reading comprehension and writing attitude. The findings indicated a low correlation

Strategic Purchasing Plan: Canned Fruit Product Category in Australia and New Zealand

To strive as being the leader in the food and beverages industry, multinational companies have been continuously improving its efficiency to optimize its operations and to maximize its profitability. This research focusses on the role of a global procurement co-pack department, which deals with the buying of finished goods from external contract manufacturers. Currently, the sourcing process of Company X\u27s canned fruit products in Australia and New Zealand is being done ad-hoc. This brings an opportunity to do a research on what is the best sourcing strategy for this product category in order to bring cost savings and operational benefits for the company. This research is conducted in a qualitative method, mainly using the primary and secondary sources from company\u27s internal archival data, interviews with the global procurement co-pack team, complemented with desk research from the internet. From the research, it shows that company X should leverage competition among suppliers by using the tendering approach. By implementing this strategy, Company X is expected to gain financial benefit for around 10% of the total spending. As for the operational benefits, the company is expected to have less operational issues from suppliers, economies of scale benefits, and less knowledge spillover

We present WebProt\'eg\'e, a tool to develop ontologies represented in the Web Ontology Language (OWL). WebProt\'eg\'e is a cloud-based application that allows users to collaboratively edit OWL ontologies, and it is available for use at https://webprotege.stanford.edu. WebProt\'ege\'e currently hosts more than 68,000 OWL ontology projects and has over 50,000 user accounts. In this paper, we detail the main new features of the latest version of WebProt\'eg\'e
