Poplars mother stocks : cuttings production at Chacras de Coria
BACTERICIDAL ACTIVITY OF ELECTROLYZED OXIDIZING WATER ON MEAT AND POULTRY
Electrolyzed oxidizing water (EOW) has potential application as a residue free sanitizing agent for food of animal origin. Meat and poultry were contaminated with microorganism, pathogens or not, and different types of electrolyzed oxidizing water treatement were investigated to evaluate the activity of each of these method. In detail, this study is aiming at evaluating the effectiveness of EOW in reducing microbial count, including total bacterial count, Salmonella Typhimurium, Staphylococcus aureus, Listeria monocytogenes and Escherichia coli on meat and poultry. EOW has a very strong disinfectant activity which, along with its easy and safe use, makes a good alternative to many other more widely used disinfectants
Poplar clones behaviour in San Carlos : Mendoza, Argentina
Desde hace más de 30 años el Instituto
Forestal de la Facultad de Ciencias Agrarias
de la Universidad Nacional de Cuyo, Mendoza,
Argentina, ha realizado la introducción
de clones de álamos de diversos orÃgenes,
con el fin de evaluar sus comportamientos
frente a agentes bióticos y abióticos, ampliar
deltoides (Stoneville 124, EEA Delta 107/68,
INTA 69/69, Fierolo) y seis Populus x
canadensis (El Campeador, Neva, Luisa Avanzo,
e INTA 69/69.The Forestry Institute from Faculty of
Agronomic Sciences depending on the Universidad
Nacional de Cuyo (República Argentina)
has introduced Poplar Clones from a
different origens to evaluate their behaviours
against of Biotic and Abiotic agents, to widen
the known genetic base as well as to improve
the volumetric average produced by the
commercial plantations in the area.
Following this line of research, in 1996 a
trial was installed in an agro-forestry development
placed in Departament of San Carlos,
Province of Mendoza at 33°46' S, 69°02' W,
and at 940 mosl. Ten Poplar Clones were
evaluated: 4 P. x deltoides (Stoneville 124,
EEA Delta 107/68, INTA 69/69, Fierolo) and 6
P. x canadensis (El Campeador, Neva, Luisa
Avanzo, B. L. Constanzo, I-42, I-455) which
were placed in plots of 9 plants each, at
random with 4 replicates. Distance of plantation
was 4 x 6 m. There were made yearly
measurements of diameter al breast height
(DBH), and total height of trees, also there were
made periodical registers of sanitary situation
particulary referred to the precense of cancrosis
attacks. The mayor volume in wood production
per hectarea was given by Stoneville 124;
322 m3/ha, EEA Delta 107/68: 293 m3/ha, INTA
69/69: 285 m3/ha and Fierolo: 239 m3/ha.
The Luisa Avanzo clon showed a great
susceptibility to cancrosis, which provoked a
highly percentage of loss of trees during the
first three year, fact which was repeated by the
rest of the euramerican clones in a lower scale.
Conclusion: the best behaviour under
trial conditions was given by : Stoneville 124,
EEA Delta 107/68 and INTA 69/69.Fil: Riu, Nuria.

Propagation of measurement noise through backprojection reconstruction in electrical impedance tomography
A framework to analyze the propagation of measurement noise through backprojection reconstruction algorithms in electrical impedance tomography (EIT) is presented. Two
measurement noise sources were considered: noise in the current drivers and in the voltage detectors. The influence of the acquisition system architecture (serial/semi-parallel) is also discussed. Three variants of backprojection reconstruction are studied:
basic (unweighted), weighted and exponential backprojection.
The results of error propagation theory have been compared with those obtained from simulated and experimental data. This
comparison shows that the approach provides a good estimate of the reconstruction error variance. It is argued that the reconstruction error in EIT images obtained via backprojection can be approximately modeled as a spatially nonstationary Gaussian
distribution. This methodology allows us to develop a spatial characterization of the reconstruction error in EIT images.Peer Reviewe
RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN LEVEL OF CONTAMINATION ON HIDE OF ANIMALS PRESENTED FOR SLAUGHTER AND CONTAMINATION ON THE RESULTANT CARCASSES
The hide and viscera of cattle entering a slaughter facility are potential sources of contamination of carcasses including significant pathogens such as Escherichia coli O157:H7, Campylobacter spp. and Salmonella spp. If evisceration is correctly performed, visceral contents do not therefore contribute significantly to the overall contamination of the carcass. However, it is much more difficult to restrict contamination from the hide. The aim of this work is to investigate the relationships between the levels of dirt and contamination on the hide of animals presented for slaughter and the levels of contamination on the resultant carcasses. Cattle were visually inspected in the lairage of 2 abattoirs and assigned to a category ranging from 1 (very clean) to 5 (very dirty) depending on the observed cleanliness of the hide. Samples of hides and carcasses were taken from 50 animals for enumerate total viable counts, Enterobacteriaceae and Escherichia coli. The results show that there is a direct correlation between animal dirtiness and total bacterial count of the carcasses
