Structural, magnetic, dielectric and mechanical properties of (Ba,Sr)MnO ceramics
Ceramic samples, produced by conventional sintering method in ambient air,
6H-SrMnO(6H-SMO), 15R-BaMnO(15R-BMO),
4H-BaSrMnO(4H-BSMO) were studied. In the XRD measurements
for SMO the new anomalies of the lattice parameters at 600-800 K range and the
increasing of thermal expansion coefficients with a clear maximum in a vicinity
at 670 K were detected. The Nel phase transition for BSMO was
observed at =250 K in magnetic measurements and its trace was detected in
dielectric, FTIR, DSC, and DMA experiments. The enthalpy and entropy changes of
the phase transition for BSMO at were determined as 17.5 J/mol and 70
mJ/K mol, respectively. The activation energy values and relaxation times
characteristic for relaxation processes were determined from the Arrhenius law.
Results of ab initio simulations showed that the contribution of the exchange
correlation energy to the total energy is about 30%.Comment: 12 pages, 12 figure

Static Dielectric Constant of β-Ga2O3 Perpendicular to the Principal Planes (100), (010), and (001)
The relative static dielectric constant ℇr of β-Ga2O3 perpendicular to the planes (100), (010), and (001) is determined in the temperature range from 25 K to 500 K by measuring the AC capacitance of correspondingly oriented plate capacitor structures using test frequencies of up to 1 MHz. This allows a direct quantification of the static dielectric constant and a unique direction assignment of the obtained values. At room temperature, ℇr perpendicular to the planes (100), (010), and (001) amounts to 10.2 ± 0.2, 10.87 ± 0.08, and 12.4 ± 0.4, respectively, which clearly evidence the anisotropy expected for β-Ga2O3 due to its monoclinic crystal structure. An increase of ℇr by about 0.5 with increasing temperature from 25 K to 450 K was found for all orientations. Our ℇr data resolve the inconsistencies in the previously available literature data with regard to absolute values and their directional assignment and therefore provide a reliable basis for the simulation and design of devices. © The Author(s) 2019
The magnetic interactions in spin-glasslike Ge/1-x-y/Sn/x/Mn/y/Te diluted magnetic semiconductor
We investigated the nature of the magnetic phase transition in the
Ge/1-x-y/Sn/x/Mn/y/Te mixed crystals with chemical composition changing in the
range of 0.083 < x < 0.142 and 0.012 < y < 0.119. The DC magnetization
measurements performed in the magnetic field up to 90 kOe and temperature range
2-200 K showed that the magnetic ordering at temperatures below T = 50 K
exhibits features characteristic for both spin-glass and ferromagnetic phases.
The modified Sherrington - Southern model was applied to explain the observed
transition temperatures. The calculations showed that the spin-glass state is
preferred in the range of the experimental carrier concentrations and Mn
content. The value of the Mn hole exchange integral was estimated to be J/pd/ =
0.45+/-0.05 eV. The experimental magnetization vs temperature curves were
reproduced satisfactory using the non-interacting spin-wave theory with the
exchange constant J/pd/ values consistent with those calculated using modified
Sherrington - Southern model. The magnetization vs magnetic field curves showed
nonsaturating behavior at magnetic fields B < 90 kOe indicating the presence of
strong magnetic frustration in the system. The experimental results were
reproduced theoretically with good accuracy using the molecular field
approximation-based model of a disordered ferromagnet with long-range RKKY

Evolution of planar defects during homoepitaxial growth of β-Ga2O3 layers on (100) substrates—A quantitative model
We study the homoepitaxial growth of β-Ga2O3 (100) grown by metal-organic vapour phase as dependent on miscut-angle vs. the c direction. Atomic force microscopy of layers grown on substrates with miscut-angles smaller than 2° reveals the growth proceeding through nucleation and growth of two-dimensional islands. With increasing miscut-angle, step meandering and finally step flow growth take place. While step-flow growth results in layers with high crystalline perfection, independent nucleation of two-dimensional islands causes double positioning on the (100) plane, resulting in twin lamellae and stacking mismatch boundaries. Applying nucleation theory in the mean field approach for vicinal surfaces, we can fit experimentally found values for the density of twin lamellae in epitaxial layers as dependent on the miscut-angle. The model yields a diffusion coefficient for Ga adatoms of D = 7 × 10−9 cm2 s−1 at a growth temperature of 850 °C, two orders of magnitude lower than the values published for GaAs
Levels of diphtheria and tetanus specific IgG of Portuguese adult women, before and after vaccination with adult type Td. Duration of immunity following vaccination
<p>Abstract</p> <p>Background</p> <p>The need for tetanus toxoid decennial booster doses has been questioned by some experts. Several counter arguments have been presented, supporting the maintenance of decennial adult booster doses with tetanus and diphtheria toxoids (adult formulation of the vaccine: Td). This study aimed to evaluate the use of Td in Portuguese adult women under routine conditions. For that purpose we selected a group of women 30+ years of age to which vaccination was recommended. We intended to know if pre-vaccination antibody concentrations were associated with factors as age at first and last vaccination, number of doses and time since last revaccination. We also intended to assess the serological efficacy of Td booster.</p> <p>Methods</p> <p>Following the Portuguese guidelines 100 women were vaccinated with Td. Antitetanus toxin IgG (ATT IgG) and antidiphtheria toxin IgG (ADT IgG) levels were measured (mIU/ml) in 100 pre-vaccination and 91 post-vaccination sera. Detailed vaccination records were available from 88 participants.</p> <p>Results</p> <p>Twenty-two women (Group A) began vaccination with DPT/DT in their early childhood and their pre-vaccination ATT IgG levels increased with the number of doses received (p = 0.022) and decreased with time since last vaccination (p = 0.016). Among the 66 women who began vaccination in adolescence and adulthood (Group B), with monovalent TT, ATT IgG levels decreased with age at first dose (p < 0.001) and with time since last vaccination (p = 0.041). In Group A, antidiphtheria toxin IgG kinetics was very similar to that observed for ATT IgG. Among women not vaccinated with diphtheria toxoid, ADT IgG levels decreased with age. Serological response to both components of Td was good but more pronounced for ATT IgG.</p> <p>Conclusion</p> <p>Our study suggests that, to protect against tetanus, there is no need to administer decennial boosters to the Portuguese adults who have complied with the childhood/adolescent schedule (6 doses of tetanus toxoid). The adult booster intervals could be wider, probably of 20 years. This also seems to apply to protection against diphtheria, but issues on the herd immunity and on the circulation of toxigenic strains need to be better understood.</p
Spin Glass and Antiferromagnetic Behaviour in a Diluted fcc Antiferromagnet
We report on a Monte Carlo study of a diluted Ising antiferromagnet on a fcc
lattice. This is a typical model example of a highly frustrated
antiferromagnet, and we ask, whether sufficient random dilution of spins does
produce a spin glass phase. Our data strongly indicate the existence of a spin
glass transition for spin--concentration : We find a divergent spin
glass susceptibility and a divergent spin glass correlation length, whereas the
antiferromagnetic correlation length saturates in this regime. Furthermore, we
find a first order phase transition to an antiferromagnet for ,
which becomes continuous in the range . Finite size scaling is
employed to obtain critical exponents. We compare our results with experimental
