Enhancing excel business tools with additional relational and recursive capabilities

    Get PDF
This paper presents a new plug in that enriches spreadsheet capabilities mainly in what concerns its potential regarding relational queries and recursive computational processes. Currently some apparently trivial and useful queries can only be handled with the support of programming skills. Spreadsheet users with low computer science skills should have a natural and easy way to handle those queries within the spreadsheet, without relying on external programming (e.g., VBA). The tool we have developed can be used with Prolog technology, and provides those features to the most used professional spreadsheet: Microsoft Excel. Throughout the paper we explore the plug-in features with several business examples.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio

Laurolactam as a stabilizer against the thermo-oxidative degradation of poly(ether-ester)

    Get PDF
In this study we examined the influence of laurolactam on the thermo-oxidative degradation of a copolymer of poly(butylene terephthalate) and polybutylene glycol and of di(ethyleneglycol) dibenzoate, used as model compound. The degradation was followed by measurement of the oxygen uptake, FTIR and 1H-NMR spectroscopy and measurement of the intrinsic viscosity changes during degradation. A stabilizing effect of laurolactam on the thermo-oxidative degradation could be observed, as an induction time was defined in which hydroperoxides were not formed and molecular weight was kept constant. After this period the oxygen uptake, hydroperoxide formation and polymer conversion increased more slowly

Surveying the spirit of absolute summability on multilinear operators and homogeneous polynomials

[EN] We draw a fundamental compendium of the most valuable results of the theory of summing linear operators and detail those that are not shared by known multilinear and polynomial extensions of absolutely summing linear operators. The lack of such results in the theory of non-linear summing operators justifies the introduction of a class of polynomials and multilinear operators that satisfies at once all related non-linear results. Surprisingly enough, this class, defined by means of a summing inequality, happens to be the well known ideal of composition with a summing operator.D. Colorimetric Assessment of BCR-ABL1 Transcripts in Clinical Samples Via Gold Nanoprobes

Gold nanoparticles functionalized with thiolated oligonucleotides (Au-nanoprobes) have been used in a range of applications for the detection of bioanalytes of interest, from ions to proteins and DNA targets. These detection strategies are based on the unique optical properties of gold nanoparticles, in particular, the intense color that is subject to modulation by modification of the medium dieletric. Au-nanoprobes have been applied for the detection and characterization of specific DNA sequences of interest, namely pathogens and disease biomarkers. Nevertheless, despite its relevance, only a few reports exist on the detection of RNA targets. Among these strategies, the colorimetric detection of DNA has been proven to work for several different targets in controlled samples but demonstration in real clinical bioanalysis has been elusive. Here, we used a colorimetric method based on Au-nanoprobes for the direct detection of the e14a2 BCR-ABL fusion transcript in myeloid leukemia patient samples without the need for retro-transcription. Au-nanoprobes directly assessed total RNA from 38 clinical samples, and results were validated against reverse transcription-nested polymerase chain reaction (RT-nested PCR) and reverse transcription-quantitative polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR). The colorimetric Au-nanoprobe assay is a simple yet reliable strategy to scrutinize myeloid leukemia patients at diagnosis and evaluate progression, with obvious advantages in terms of time and cost, particularly in low- to medium-income countries where molecular screening is not routinely feasible. Cerebrospinal Fluid Hypotension Following Fall in a Child: Case Report

    Get PDF
CSF hypotension arises in the context of a leak of CSF which causes negative intracranial pressure. Sacral fractures result from high-energy trauma which are frequently underdiagnosed. A ten-year-old boy presented with hip pain, after a fall. He mobilized both lower limbs, reported no leg pain, irradiation nor lack of sphincter control. The neurological examination was normal. When asked to stand, he began biparietal headache, nausea and vomiting, which improved laying down. CT scan showed an occult intrasacral meningocele; the MRI revealed collections of CSF along the spine, a S3 fracture with potential laceration of the meningocele and opening of a CSF fistula. Our diagnosis was the CSF hypotension, secondary to the fistula opening. The diagnosis was challenging. The child first presented with symptoms of CSF hypotension without evident cause. The discovery of the meningocele led us to hypothesize the opening of a fistula, a rare diagnosis, later confirmed by MRI.info:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
