Optimizing Energy Baseline for Medium Size Office Using Hybrid EnergyPlus-Evolutionary Programming (EP)

    Get PDF
This paper presents an optimization approach of developing building energy baseline for medium sized office using Evolutionary Programming (EP) in comparison with direct methods. This paper applies simulation-based approach by coupling Matlab and EnergyPlus to perform energy building simulation and obtain the best energy baseline configuration with minimal error. On the other hand, direct method relies on try-and-error manually key-in methods using OpenStudio EnergyPlus simulation software. The proposed method is applied to a single story Green Energy Research Centre (GERC) office building located in UiTM Shah Alam with characteristic of partially air-conditioned buildings. The office consists of 5 different size rooms with different purposes. In this regard, 3 building parameters are taken as a decision variables including occupancies, lightings and electrical equipment. The EP objective function was set to minimize the difference between simulated and monitored energy consumption. To evaluate accuracy of building energy model, hourly criteria for Normalized Mean Biased Error (NMBE) and Coefficient of Variance Root Mean Squared Error (CV(RMSE)) endorsed by IPMVP were used. It is found that simulation-based approach has lower value of NMBE at 2.775% and CV(RMSE) at 10.949% compared to direct methods where NMBE at 79.964% while CV(RMSE) at 104.848%

Theoretical Analysis of a Two-stage Sagnac loop filter using Jones Matrices

    Get PDF
In this work, a theoretical analysis of a Sagnac loop filter (SLF) with two-stage polarization maintaining fibers (PMFs) and polarization controllers (PCs) is presented. The transmission function of this two-stage SLF is calculated in detail by using Jones matrix. The calculation is performed in order to investigate the filtering characteristics. The theoretical results show that the wavelength interval is depending on the dynamic settings of the length of the PMFs and the polarization angle of the PCs. By changing the polarization angle of the PCs, a multiple of single, dual or triple wavelength in each channel can be achieved. Based on this study, a flat multiwavelength spectrum can be obtained by adjusting the PMFs and the PCs in the two-stage SLF. This finding significantly contributes to the generation of multiwavelength fiber laser (MWFL) that can be used for many optical applications

Four-wave mixing cascades seeded by a multiwavelength Brillouin–erbium fiber laser

    Get PDF
Four-wave mixing (FWM) cascades which are seeded by a multiwavelength Brillouin–erbium fiber laser (MBEFL) are experimentally demonstrated in this work. The MBEFL, which is based on virtual mirror feedback, is successful in providing the seed for the FWM cascades. The stimulated Brillouin scattering and parametric gain for the development of the MBEFL and FWM cascades, respectively, are provided by a 12 km dispersion-shifted fiber (DSF). By launching the MBEFL into the DSF, as many as 80 comb lines can be generated when the Brillouin pump (BP) wavelength is tuned at 1560 nm. Analysis of FWM cascades as a function of BP wavelength shows that the number of comb lines is greater at the anomalous-dispersion region of the DSF, suggesting that the phase mismatch is minimized in that regime

Healthy food store Java Qu is one store which is located on the road Anggajaya No.268B, Lean chess, Sleman, Yogyakarta, which originated from online sales, as demand for goods increased then opened offline stores. The development of today\u27s technology is more advanced, it is necessary to every company in the process of data processing by using computer technology. Existing data processing in health food stores Java Qu is still using manual systems that use the memorandum have not been using a computerized system. Such a process raises a lot of obstacles when performing data processing such as sales data, purchase data, and others.Looking at the existing problems in health food stores Java Qu, the authors aimed want to design a new system to be both processing and simplify the transaction process sales service, so that the author can develop a system to build software in Java Qu Healthy Food Stores Sleman Yogyakarta . The system is a system that handles the sales and service procedures with the method of application development using Visual Basic 6.0.The results showed that the system has made it evident to facilitate the sale of services to the healthy food store for Java Qu Sleman, Yogyakarta. Data and reports on Java Qu Store Healthy food can be processed properly and neatly arranged

Green open space has a function to reduce the level of carbondioxide in the air. Carbondioxide levels are generally increased due to an increase in motor vehicle exhaust gas emissions and land use changes, such as changes in open land into industrial, or agricultural land turned into housing, etc.Cibinong City in this decade had increased levels of carbondioxide caused by the developmnet of a growing city. Research purposes are (1) analyze changes of green open space and its impact on the ability to absorb carbondioxide, (2) analyze the amount of carbondioxide produced by motor vehicle exhaust gas emissions for each road segment and provide direction spatially green open space. In this decade (from 2000 to 2010), Changes of unbuilt land to built land increased from 2.268,88 Ha (35,78 %) to3.558,22 Ha (56,12 %), however, absorption of the green open spaces of the carbondioxide increases. Whereas, Carbondioxide emission strength on larger road on the Raya Bogor (City Center) 498 gr/detik which has the function of arterial roads with the task of helping regional movement. The most amount of carbondioxide emissions generated by personal vehicles, motorcycles, and ligth public trasportation, while trucks and buses do not contribute. When the carbondioxide emission strength map is overlayed with the land use map then we have the conclusion that the roads that have a high volume of vehicle movement will have a high carbondioxide levels, but not mean low air quality because it depends on the existence of protective trees as green belt

ETOU electricity tariff for manufacturing load shifting strategy using ACO algorithm

    Get PDF
This paper presents load shifting strategy for cost reduction on manufacturing electricity demand side, by which a real test load profile had been used to prove the concept. Superior bio-inspired algorithm, Ant Colony Optimization (ACO) had been implemented to optimize the upright load profile of load shifting strategy in the Malaysia Enhance Time of Use (ETOU) tariff condition. Subsequently, significant simulation results of operation profit gain through 24 hours electricity consumption had been analyzed properly. The proposed method had shown reduction of approximately 6% of the electricity cost at peak and mid peak zones, when 20%, 40%, 60%, 80% and 100% load shifting weightages were applied to the identified 10% controlled loads consequently. It is hoped that the finding of this study can help poise the manufacturers to switch to ETOU tariff as well as support the national Demand Side Management (DSM) program

Modulating carboxymethylcellulose-based hydrogels with superior mechanical and rheological properties for future biomedical applications

    Get PDF
Herein, a grafted copolymer composed of carboxymethylcellulose (CMC) and polyethylene-glycol-aminated (PEG-NH2) was successfully synthesized via a facile ionic interaction and scalable route in the presence of EDC/NHS (Nethyl-N′-(3-imethylaminopropyl)carbodiimide/N-hydroxysuccinimide) activators. From Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, the absorption peak at 1652 cm–1 corresponded to –NH groups of PEG-NH2. After grafting, the grafted CMC-PEG was characterized for surface morphology, crystallinity, functional groups determination, and thermal analysis. No cytotoxicity effect was observed in normal human dermal fibroblasts (NHDFs) cells following exposure to the grafted CMC-PEG up to 2 mg/ml. The rheological studies suggested that the optimized 10% (w/v) grafted CMC-PEG hydrogels crosslinked with 5% (w/v) citric acid (CA) exhibited better mechanical properties compared to the non-grafted CMC. This work highlights the characterizations of grafted CMC-PEG and demonstrates the potential of grafted CMC-PEG hydrogels crosslinked with CA for advanced 3D-bioprinting or as injectable hydrogels in various biomedical applications such as tissue engineering, wound dressing materials, and drug delivery systems
