    Eksplorasi Identifikasi Dan Karakterisasi Bawang Merah Lokal (Allium Ascalonicum L.) Di Pulau Samosir

    The purpose of the research is to explore, identify and characterize the local Samosir shallot The result was began from June up to July 2015. The method of the research includes exploration by survey, identification by desk study, and characterization to identify the variation of each accession using SPSS and evaluate the closeness of relationship using dendogram. The result showed that exploration to central areas of local shallot cultivation obtained six districts. However, only two districts (six villages; Hatoguan, Palipi, Gopal, Pallombuan, Urat, Sitinjak, Harian) where farmers qualified as respondents. Identification showed the similarity of character times to bloom, times harvest, leaves shapes, flower colors, flower shapes, as well as the bulbs colors, but there was variation on plant length, bulbs diameter, bulbs weight, the number of tillers, leaves number, leaves color, and the shape of bulbs. The farthest relationship with the highest diversity coeficient obtained on the wet weight of bulbs, dry weight of bulbs, and the number of leaf with value 8.11, 7.8, and 7.5 respectively

    Pengaruh Konsentrasi Dan Lama Perendaman Asam Sulfat Terhadap Perkecambahan Biji Aren ( Arenga Pinnata Merr. )

    The influence of concentration and soaking time of sulfate acid to germination of sugar palm (Arenga pinnata Merr.) seeds. The research was conducted in Laboratory of Seed Technology, Agricultural Faculty, Univesity of Sumatera Utara, Medan, about 25 meters above the sea level started from November 2015 until Januari 2016using Randomized Block Design with two factors, i.e. concentration of sulfate acid with 4 levels : 0 %, 25 %, 50 %, 75 % andsoaking time with 4 levels : 5 minute, 10 minute, 15 minutes and 20 minute. The parameters observed were percentation of germination, germination rate, vigor index, axis embrio+radicule lenght, seedling fresh weight and dry weight. The results showed that the interaction between concentration and soaking time of sulfate acid significantly affected to all parameters observed except germination rate parameter. The combination seeds soaked in 75 % sulfate acidfor ten minutes produce the highest percentation of germination, vigor indeks, axis embrio+ radicule length, i.e. 100%, 0.31, 10.42 cm respectively

    Optimization of English Speaking Skill and English Grammatical Competence of Second Semester College Students in English Literature of Bung Hatta University Through Role-play Technique: Classroom Action Research of English As Foreign Language

    Optimization of English Communication Skill of second semester students of English Literature program is one of important learning progress to be achieved. They have been endorsed to be better since they had English conversation class in first semester. Along with English conversation class in first semester, students also learned other competences of English skill such as grammar, writing, listening, and writing subjects. However, applying grammatical feature of English into speaking activity was still a great difficulty for those who took English conversation class in second semester. Most of the students were still difficult to construct their ideas into proper simple English composition utterances. Based on this problem, this research was focused on Optimization of students’ English communication skill and their English grammatical competence by applying Role-Play technique in English conversation class of second semester students. This research has revealed that Role-play Technique improves significantly toward students’ understanding of Grammatical used in English speaking activity contextually. It was reflected in research field observation and measurement in answering two research questions; how extent Role-pay technique optimized students’ English speaking skill and their English grammatical competence and the Factors. It is concluded that Role-play Technique contributes significantly in optimized students’ understanding in applying English grammatical competence into English Speaking Skill contextually.     Keywords: Role-play, Grammatical Competence, Speaking Skil

    Response of Growth and Biomass Production of Medicinal Plants Centella (Centella asiatica (L.)Urb.) Phosphorus And Methyl jasmonate aplication. The aims of this study is determine theresponse of growth and biomass production of medicine plants Centella to aplications Phosphorusand Methyl jasmonate. For this purpose, field experiment had been done in January to June 2012 atdesa Syahmad Lubuk Pakam by using Randomized Block Design for growth variable whichphosphor application as single factor with 9 blocks and for component of biomass productionvariable used by Split Plot Design with factors, they are jasmonate rate (0;100;200 ÎĽM) andphosphor application as the sub plot (0,18,36,54 kg P2O5/ha). The growth and production charactersobserved were number of primary shoots, number of stolon, fresh and dry weight per sampel andfresh and dry weight per plot. The results showed that all characters were not significantly effectedby phosphorus and methyl jasmonate, significant interaction for both treatsments only at 11 weeksafter sawing for stolon numbers and the highest was found in combination of 100 ÎĽM jasmonateand without phsophorus
