    Higher harmonics of azimuthal anisotropy in relativistic heavy ion collisions in HYDJET++ model

    The LHC data on azimuthal anisotropy harmonics from PbPb collisions at center-of-mass energy 2.76 TeV per nucleon pair are analyzed and interpreted in the framework of the HYDJET++ model. The cross-talk of elliptic v2v_2 and triangular v3v_3 flow in the model generates both even and odd harmonics of higher order. Comparison with the experimental data shows that this mechanism is able to reproduce the pTp_{\rm T} and centrality dependencies of quadrangular flow v4v_4, and also the basic trends for pentagonal v5v_5 and hexagonal v6v_6 flows.Comment: 12 pages including 13 figures as EPS-files; prepared using LaTeX package for publication in the European Physical Journal

    The LHC data on event-by-event harmonic flow coefficients measured in PbPb collisions at center-of-mass energy 2.76 TeV per nucleon pair are analyzed and interpreted within the HYDJET++ model. To compare the model results with the experimental data the unfolding procedure is employed. The essentially dynamical origin of the flow fluctuations in hydro-inspired freeze-out approach has been established. It is shown that the simple modification of the model via introducing the distribution over spatial anisotropy parameters permits HYDJET++ to reproduce both elliptic and triangular flow fluctuations and related to it eccentricity fluctuations of the initial state at the LHC energy.Comment: 12 pages including 9 figures as EPS-files; prepared using LaTeX package for publication in the European Physical Journal

    Syntheses of Sterically Shielded Stable Carbenes of the 1,2,4-Triazole Series and their Corresponding Palladium Complexes: Efficient Catalysts for Chloroarene Hydrodechlorination

    The new sterically shielded 1,3,4-trisubstituted 1,2,4-triazol-5-ylidenes 8b-d were synthesized by a three step method starting from 2-phenyl-1,3,4-oxadiazole. The syntheses of palladium complexes 9a-d and 10a-d (including the sterically shielded derivatives 9c,d and 10a-d) were carried out via the reactions of the stable carbenes 8a-d with palladium halogenide salts in THF or toluene solution. Complexes 9c,d and 10a-d were found to be excellent catalysts for the reductive dechlorination (hydrodechlorination) of p-dichlorobenzene.     Will jets reduce the elliptic flow at LHC, while decays of resonances restore the constituent quark scaling?

    Formation and evolution of the elliptic flow pattern in Pb+Pb collisions at sqrt{s}=5.5 ATeV and in Au+Au collisions at sqrt{s}=200 AGeV are analyzed for different hadron species within the framework of HYDJET++ Monte-Carlo model. The model contains both hydrodynamic state and jets, thus allowing for a study of the interplay between the soft and hard processes. It is found that jets are terminating the rise of the elliptic flow with increasing transverse momentum. Since jets are more influential at LHC compared to RHIC, the elliptic flow at LHC should be weaker than that at RHIC. The influence of resonance decays on particle elliptic flow is investigated also. These final state interactions enhance the low-p_T part of the v_2 of pions and light baryons, and work towards the fulfilment of idealized constituent quark scaling.Comment: 8 pages, 9 figures, 3 table

    Model of Centauro and strangelet production in heavy ion collisions

    We discuss the phenomenological model of Centauro event production in relativistic nucleus-nucleus collisions. This model makes quantitative predictions for kinematic observables, baryon number and mass of the Centauro fireball and its decay products. Centauros decay mainly to nucleons, strange hyperons and possibly strangelets. Simulations of Centauro events for the CASTOR detector in Pb-Pb collisions at LHC energies are performed.     A spatial framework for assessing current conditions and monitoring future change in the chemistry of the Antarctic atmosphere

    This is the first study to measure more than 25 chemical constituents in the surface snow and firn across extensive regions of Antarctica. It is also the first to report total- Cs concentrations. We present major ion, trace element, heavy metal, rare earth element 5 and oxygen isotope data from a series of surface snow samples and shallow firn sections collected along four US ITASE traverses across East and West Antarctica. In each sample we measure dissolved concentrations of Na+, K+, Mg2+, Ca2+, Cl−, NO− 3 , SO2− 4 , and MS− using ion chromatography and total concentrations of Sr, Cd, Cs, Ba, La, Ce, Pr, Pb, Bi, U, As, Al, S, Ca, Ti, V, Cr, Mn, Fe, Co, Na, Mg, Li, and K using 10 inductively coupled plasma sector field mass spectrometry. We also measure 18O by isotope ratio mass spectrometry. The 2002/2003 traverse began at Byrd Surface Camp, West Antarctica, and ended close to South Pole, East Antarctica. The 2003/2004 traverse began at South Pole, passed through AGO4 in central East Antarctica before turning north and finishing at 15 Taylor Dome. The combined 2006/2007 and 2007/2008 traverses started out at Taylor Dome and headed south, passing through the Byrd Glacier drainage basin and ending at South Pole. In this study, we utilize satellite remote sensing measurements of microwave backscatter and grain size to assist in the identification of glaze/dune areas across 20 Antarctica and show how chemical concentrations are higher in these areas, precluding them from containing useful high-resolution chemical climate records. The majority of the non-glaze/dune samples in this study exhibit similar, or lower, concentrations to those from previous studies. Consequently, the results presented here comprise a conservative baseline for Antarctic surface snow chemical concentra25 tions. The elements Cd, Pb, Bi, As, and Li are enriched across Antarctica relative to both ocean and upper crust elemental ratios. Global volcanic outgassing accounts for the majority of the Bi measured in East and West Antarctica and for a significant fraction of the Cd in East Antarctica. Nonetheless, global volcanic outgassing cannot account for the enriched values of Pb or As. Local volcanic outgassing from Mount Erebus may account for a significant fraction of the As and Cd in West Antarctica and for a significant fraction in East Antarctic glaze/dune areas. However, despite potential 5 contributions from local and global volcanic sources, significant concentrations of Pb, Cd, and As remain across much of Antarctica. Most importantly, this study provides a baseline from which changes in the chemistry of the atmosphere over Antarctica can be monitored under expected warming scenarios and continued intensification of industrial activities in the Southern Hemisphere
