Measuring an entropy in heavy ion collisions
We propose to use the coincidence method of Ma to measure an entropy of the
system created in heavy ion collisions. Moreover we estimate, in a simple
model, the values of parameters for which the thermodynamical behaviour sets
in.Comment: LATTICE98(hightemp), 3 pages, LaTeX with two eps figure
High--Resolution 3D Simulations of Relativistic Jets
We have performed high-resolution 3D simulations of relativistic jets with
beam flow Lorentz factors up to 7, a spatial resolution of 8 cells per beam
radius, and for up to 75 normalized time units to study the morphology and
dynamics of 3D relativistic jets. Our simulations show that the coherent fast
backflows found in axisymmetric models are not present in 3D models. We further
find that when the jet is exposed to non-axisymmetric perturbations, (i) it
does not display the strong perturbations found for 3D classical hydrodynamic
and MHD jets (at least during the period of time covered by our simulations),
and (ii) it does propagate according to the 1D estimate. Small 3D effects in
the relativistic beam give rise to a lumpy distribution of apparent speeds like
that observed in M87. The beam is surrounded by a boundary layer of high
specific internal energy. The properties of this layer are briefly discussed.Comment: 15 pages, 4 figures. Accepted to be publish in the ApJ Letters.

Hyperbolic character of the angular moment equations of radiative transfer and numerical methods
We study the mathematical character of the angular moment equations of
radiative transfer in spherical symmetry and conclude that the system is
hyperbolic for general forms of the closure relation found in the literature.
Hyperbolicity and causality preservation lead to mathematical conditions
allowing to establish a useful characterization of the closure relations. We
apply numerical methods specifically designed to solve hyperbolic systems of
conservation laws (the so-called Godunov-type methods), to calculate numerical
solutions of the radiation transport equations in a static background. The
feasibility of the method in any kind of regime, from diffusion to
free-streaming, is demonstrated by a number of numerical tests and the effect
of the choice of the closure relation on the results is discussed.Comment: 37 pags, 12 figures, accepted for publication in MNRA
Relativistic Jets from Collapsars
We have studied the relativistic beamed outflow proposed to occur in the
collapsar model of gamma-ray bursts. A jet forms as a consequence of an assumed
energy deposition of erg/s within a cone
around the rotation axis of the progenitor star. The generated jet flow is
strongly beamed (\la few degrees) and reaches the surface of the stellar
progenitor (r cm) intact. At break-out the maximum Lorentz
factor of the jet flow is about 33. Simulations have been performed with the
GENESIS multi-dimensional relativistic hydrodynamic code.Comment: 6 pages, 2 figures, to appear in the proceedings of the conference

Distributed storage manager system for synchronized and scalable AV services across networks
This article has been made available through the Brunel Open Access Publishing Fund - Copyright @ 2011 Hindawi Publishing CorporationThis paper provides an innovative solution, namely, the distributed storage manager that opens a new path for highly interactive and personalized services. The distributed storage manager provides an enhancement to the MHP storage management functionality acting as a value added middleware distributed across the network. The distributed storage manager system provides multiple protocol support for initializing and downloading both streamed and file-based content and provides optimum control mechanisms to organize the storing and retrieval of content that are remained accessible to other multiple heterogeneous devices
Exploiting correlogram structure for robust speech recognition with multiple speech sources
This paper addresses the problem of separating and recognising speech in a monaural acoustic mixture with the presence of competing speech sources. The proposed system treats sound source separation and speech recognition as
tightly coupled processes. In the first stage sound source separation is performed in the correlogram domain. For periodic sounds, the correlogram exhibits symmetric tree-like structures whose stems are located on the delay
that corresponds to multiple pitch periods. These pitch-related structures are exploited in the study to group spectral components at each time frame. Local
pitch estimates are then computed for each spectral group and are used to form simultaneous pitch tracks for temporal integration. These processes segregate a spectral representation of the acoustic mixture into several time-frequency regions such that the energy in each region is likely to have originated from a single periodic sound source. The identified time-frequency regions, together
with the spectral representation, are employed by a `speech fragment decoder' which employs `missing data' techniques with clean speech models to simultaneously search for the acoustic evidence that best matches model sequences. The paper presents evaluations based on artificially mixed simultaneous speech utterances. A coherence-measuring experiment is first reported which quantifies the consistency of the identified fragments with a single source. The system is then evaluated in a speech recognition task and compared to a conventional fragment generation approach. Results show that the proposed system produces more coherent fragments over different conditions,
which results in significantly better recognition accuracy
Supersymmetric Higgs Triplets and Bilinear R-Parity Nonconservation
The supersymmetric standard model of particle interactions is extended to
include two Higgs triplet superfields at the TeV scale, carrying two units of
lepton number. Realistic tree-level Majorana neutrino masses are obtained in
the presence of soft, i.e. bilinear, R-parity nonconservation.Comment: 5 pages, no figur
