A universal Riemannian foliated space
It is proved that the isometry classes of pointed connected complete
Riemannian -manifolds form a Polish space, , with
the topology described by the convergence of manifolds. This space
has a canonical partition into sets defined by varying the distinguished point
into each manifold. The locally non-periodic manifolds define an open dense
subspace ,
which becomes a foliated space with the restriction of the canonical
partition. Its leaves without holonomy form the subspace
defined by the non-periodic manifolds. Moreover the leaves have a natural
Riemannian structure so that becomes a
Riemannian foliated space, which is universal among all sequential Riemannian
foliated spaces satisfying certain property called covering-continuity.
is used to characterize the realization
of complete connected Riemannian manifolds as dense leaves of
covering-continuous compact sequential Riemannian foliated spaces.Comment: 32 pages. Published in Topology Appl., 198 (2016), 47-8
Preliminary Water Assessment Reports of The Test Basins of The Watch Project
This report presents the initial plans of the case studies how they link to rest of the Watch project and on which water resources they will focus. This report will function as the basis for further discussions on how to improve the integration of the case studies within the project and to develop a more general protocol for each of the case studies. Currently 5 catchments are used within the Watch project, they differ in climatic and hydro-geological features and expected climate changes: the Glomma River basin (Eastern Norway), the upper Guadiana basin (Central Spanish Plateau), the Nitra River basin (central Slovakia), the Upper-Elbe basin (part of the Elbe River) and the island of Crete. Also the water resources issues vary over these cases. Agricultural (and domestic) water use is under pressure in the Mediterranean catchments probably aggravating with the expected increase in drought frequency under future climate. The Norwegian catchment provides hydropower services under threat of precipitation increase rather than decrease. The central European catchments are threatened mainly by increased variability, i.e. increased frequencies of extremes in a densely populated environment, and river flow may need additional buffers (reservoirs) to reduce floodrisk and store water for dry period
The congenital dislocation of the knee is a rare infrequent pathology, to be precise the incidence is around 0.017 per thousand live births, or approximately 1% over the incidence of congenital hip dysplasia. Due to such a low incidence, there exist controversial approaches the absolute treatment. This paper presents the particular case of a congenital dislocation of the knee, which has been successfully treated by means of orthopaedic treatment
Malignant fibrous histiocytoma of bone is a rare but highly agressive mesenchimal
tumor. It usually arises as a primary tumor but sometimes it can be associated with pre-existing bone
abnormalities. Histologically it can be missdiagnosed with other tumors. We report a case of malignant
fibrous histiocytoma of bone in the femur in a patient with Paget's disease treated by hip
desarticulation. We didn't use chemotherapy because his elderly status. At 18 months follow up, the
patient is symptom-free and neither local recurrence nor metastasis have been found. A review of
the literature has been carried out
Pseudoaneurysm is an uncommon complication in knee orthopaedic surgery. There are few cases reported an most of them are secondary to arthroscopic techniques. We report a case of pseudoaneurysm of the superolateral genicular artery after knee arthroplasty in a 69-year-old-man. The diagnosis was made with arteriographay, and treatment was a successful hemostasia and surgical resection
