Turbulent transport of material particles: An experimental study of finite size effects
We use an acoustic Lagrangian tracking technique, particularly adapted to
measurements in open flows, and a versatile material particles generator (in
the form of soap bubbles with adjustable size and density) to characterize
Lagrangian statistics of finite sized, neutrally bouyant, particles transported
in an isotropic turbulent flow of air. We vary the size of the particles in a
range corresponding to turbulent inertial scales and explore how the turbulent
forcing experienced by the particles depends on their size. We show that, while
the global shape of the intermittent acceleration probability density function
does not depend significantly on particle size, the acceleration variance of
the particles decreases as they become larger in agreement with the classical
scaling for the spectrum of Eulerian pressure fluctuations in the carrier flow

Utilização do software GRASP para gerar arquivo de coordenadas com valores de potencial eletrostático.
Com o intuito de disponibilizar um banco de dados de valores de potencial eletrostático para todas as estruturas de proteínas depositadas no PDB, foi utilizado o programa GRASP (Graphical Representation and Analysis of Structural Properties) (Nicholls et al., 1991) para geração deste banco de dados.bitstream/CNPTIA/9883/1/comuntec24.pdfAcesso em: 30 maio 2008
Vocal development in a large‐scale crosslinguistic corpus
This study evaluates whether early vocalizations develop in similar ways in children across diverse cultural contexts. We analyze data from daylong audio recordings of 49 children (1–36 months) from five different language/cultural backgrounds. Citizen scientists annotated these recordings to determine if child vocalizations contained canonical transitions or not (e.g., “ba” vs. “ee”). Results revealed that the proportion of clips reported to contain canonical transitions increased with age. Furthermore, this proportion exceeded 0.15 by around 7 months, replicating and extending previous findings on canonical vocalization development but using data from the natural environments of a culturally and linguistically diverse sample. This work explores how crowdsourcing can be used to annotate corpora, helping establish developmental milestones relevant to multiple languages and cultures. Lower inter‐annotator reliability on the crowdsourcing platform, relative to more traditional in‐lab expert annotators, means that a larger number of unique annotators and/or annotations are required, and that crowdsourcing may not be a suitable method for more fine‐grained annotation decisions. Audio clips used for this project are compiled into a large‐scale infant vocalization corpus that is available for other researchers to use in future work
Excavation at Aguas Buenas, Robinson Crusoe Island, Chile, of a gunpowder magazine and the supposed campsite of Alexander Selkirk, together with an account of early navigational dividers
Excavations were undertaken of a ruined building at Aguas Buenas, identified as an 18th-century Spanish gunpowder magazine. Evidence was also found for the campsite of an early European occupant of the island. A case is made that this was Alexander Selkirk, a castaway here from 1704 to 1709. Selkirk was the model for Defoe’s Robinson Crusoe. A detailed discussion is given of a fragment of copper alloy identifi ed as being from a pair of navigational dividers

Low-latency, Scalable, DeFi with Zef
Zef was recently proposed to extend the low-latency, Byzantine-Fault Tolerant (BFT) payment protocol FastPay with anonymous coins. This report explores further extensions of FastPay and Lef beyond payments. We start by off-chain assets (e.g. NFTs). We introduce the idea of on-demand BFT consensus instances throught the example of atomic swaps between account owners
