Intercultural Skills: A Reflexive Approach to the Training of Sociocultural Workers

The paper aims at (re)introducing the reader to intercultural skills: a concept that has been at the heart of the work of the researchers at IRFAM in their study of the challenges that come with the process of integration for collectives and individuals. Using the figures of the socio-cultural workers and educators who have invaluable experience helping migrant descendants, this essay is a project report on challenges and frictions that emerge in situations marked by asymmetric cultural and social relations. Based on theoretical and empirical sources, the paper also offers a list of intercultural skills that provide those acting as mediators with some conceptual tools that would help them to decipher a specific situation and navigate between the institutional and their personal a priori religious, cultural, or ideological values (metacognition), and those of the individuals with a migrant background - but not only - they work with

Structural studies of protein deposition in developing legume seeds

A comparative study of storage protein deposition has been made in developing seeds of a range of legumes. Varieties of pisum sativum, vicia faba, vigna unguiculata, and Phaseolus vulgaris have been examined. Particular attention has been paid to: (i) morphological and cytological changes during the course of seed development, (ii) the structural relationship of the developing seed to its maternal tissue with regard to nutrient transport, (iii) the structure of the developing embryo with regard to possible pathways for nutrient transport, (iv) the cytology and ultrastructure of storage protein deposition with the cotyledon leaves. The results illustrate differences in seed coat structure which could influence the rate of nutrient supply during embryo development and features of embryo structure related to nutrient uptake. PERANCANGAN REST AREA JALAN TRANS SULAWESI DI KECAMATAN SANGKUB PENDEKATAN ARSITEKTUR FUTURISTIC

Daerah Sangkub menjadi salah satu jalur bagi siapapun yang melakukan perjalanan antar kota gorontalo - manado. Hal tersebut merupakan salah satu potensi yang harus dilakukan peningkatan sarana dan prasarananya, salah satunya dengan pembangunan Rest Area jln. Trans dengan berbagai macam fasilitas. Rest Area memiliki fungsi sebagai fasilitas pelepas penat. Selain itu, Rest Area yang dikemas dalam desain modern dan mengikuti perkembangan jaman juga akan meningkatkan pendapatan setempat melalui retail, rumah makan dan hiburan, serta perdagangan jasa lainnya. Berdasarkan uraian diatas, maka diperlukan Perencanaan dan Perancangan sebuah Rest Areadi jalan Trans Sulawesi Gorontalo-Manado. Dimana Rest Area yang akan dirancang mampu memenuhi seluruh kebutuhan pengguna di jalan Trans Sulawesi, baik kebutuhan manusia maupun kebutuhan kendaraan.Kajian diawali dengan mempelajari pengertian tentang Rest Area, jenis dan klasifikasi Rest Area, serta studi banding beberapa Rest Area yang ada di Indonesia. Dilakukan juga tinjauan mengenai daerah kecamatan sangkub kabupaten Bolaang Mongondow Utara, serta peraturan daerah setempat yang mendukungnya. Pendekatan perancangan arsitektural dilakukan dengan konsep Futuristic. Selain itu dilakukan pendekatan fungsional, kinerja, teknis, dan konstekstual. Pemilihan tapak berdasarkan data eksisting yang ada. 

Implementasi Posture Evaluation Index untuk Perancangan Meja RBTI dengan Menggunakan Virtual Environment Human Modelling

Reading Room of Industrial Engineering (RBTI) is one means of supporting the learning activities in the form of a library that is located on the 2nd floor of Industrial Engineering Diponegoro University campus. The desk is one of the main facilities that should be considered in service in RBTI. The results of the initial questionnaire to 30 respondents indicated that 66.67% of respondents felt less comfortable to design a desk that is due to be bent so that the user can read and write well. This study examines aspects of ergonomics in a virtual environment on actual desk, so that aspect of ergonomics can be compared to recommended desk that have been adapted to the size of its anthropometry. The purpose of this study is to provide an assessment and compare the posture of the user using the actual desk to recomended desk by using Posture Evaluation Index (PEI). PEI integrate low back value analysis (LBA), Ovako working posture analysis (OWAS) and rapid upper limb assessment (RULA). Analyses were performed using a virtual human model that is provided on the software environment jack 8. The results showed that the actual value of PEI at the table have a higher value than recommended desk. This indicates that the lower the PEI value, the better the posture

Konflik Komunal Mengatasnamakan Agama di Indonesia: Analisis terhadap Konflik Ahmadiyah dalam Pemberitaan Media, 2005-2011

The article offers a fresh perspective to analyze the conflict through observation of media coverage, proposing that through this close observation, the form, factors and motives of conflict can be easily identified. Through its observation, this paper records that the clash between Ahmadiyyah and other religious groups has predominated social conflict in Indonesia since 2005 until 2011. It argues that the conflict persistence is due to a weak law enforcement. The state is deemed to be failed to protect the minority group against the violent acts of other religious groups and it is this failure that this artcile associates with the escalation and development of the conflict
