Strangeness Production in pp,pA,AA Interactions at SPS Energies.HIJING Approach
In this report we have made a systematic study of strangeness production in
proton-proton(pp),proton-nucleus(pA) and nucleus- nucleus(AA) collisions at
CERN Super Proton Synchroton energies, using \\ (version ). Numerical results for mean
multiplicities of neutral strange particles ,as well as their ratios to
negatives hadrons() for
p-p,nucleon-nucleon(N-N),\,\,p-S,\,\,p-Ag,\,\,p-Au('min. bias')collisions and
p-Au,\,\,S-S,\,\,S-Ag,\,\,S-Au ('central')collisions are compared to
experimental data available from CERN experiments and also with recent
theoretical estimations given by others models. Neutral strange particle
abundances are quite well described for p-p,N-N and p-A interactions ,but are
underpredicted by a factor of two in A-A interactions for
in symmetric collisions(S-S,\,\,Pb-Pb)and for
in asymmetric ones(S-Ag,\,\,S-Au,\,\,S-W). A
qualitative prediction for rapidity, transverse kinetic energy and transverse
momenta normalized distributions are performed at 200 GeV/Nucleon in
p-S,S-S,S-Ag and S-Au collisions in comparison with recent experimental data.
HIJING model predictions for coming experiments at CERN for S-Au, S-W and Pb-Pb
interactions are given. The theoretical calculations are estimated in a full

Baryon anomaly and strong color fields in Pb+Pb collisions at 2.76A TeV at the CERN Large Hadron Collider
With the HIJING/BBbar v2.0 heavy ion event generator, we explore the
phenomenological consequences of several high parton density dynamical effects
predicted in central Pb+Pb collisions at the Large Hadron Collider (LHC)
energies. These include (1) jet quenching due to parton energy loss (dE/dx),
(2) strangeness and hyperon enhancement due to strong longitudinal color field
(SCF), and (3) enhancement of baryon-to-meson ratios due to baryon-anti-baryon
junctions (JJbar) loops and SCF effects. The saturation/minijet cutoff scale
p0(s)and effective string tension kappa(s,A) are constrained by our previous
analysis of LHC p+p data and recent data on the charged multiplicity for Pb+Pb
collisions reported by the ALICE collaboration. We predict the hadron flavor
dependence (mesons and baryons) of the nuclear modification factor RAA(pT)$ and
emphasize the possibility that the baryon anomaly could persist at the LHC up
to pT=10 GeV, well beyond the range observed in central Au+Au collisions at

Morphological and functional effects of graphene on the synthesis of uranium carbide for isotopes production targets
AbstractThe development of tailored targets for the production of radioactive isotopes represents an active field in nuclear research. Radioactive beams find applications in nuclear medicine, in astrophysics, matter physics and materials science. In this work, we study the use of graphene both as carbon source for UO2 carbothermal reduction to produce UCx targets, and also as functional properties booster. At fixed composition, the UCx target grain size, porosity and thermal conductivity represent the three main points that affect the target production efficiency. UCx was synthesized using both graphite and graphene as the source of carbon and the target properties in terms of composition, grain size, porosity, thermal diffusivity and thermal conductivity were studied. The main output of this work is related to the remarkable enhancement achieved in thermal conductivity, which can profitably improve thermal dissipation during operational stages of UCx targets.</jats:p
Una procedura per la valutazione dei limiti di utilizzo di O-Ring sottoposti ad intensi fasci di neutroni
Si presenta una procedura per la previsione della durata di utilizzo di O-ring in materiale polimerico impiegati nei bersagli per la produzione di fasci di ioni radioattivi. Si sono dapprima condotte prove di tenuta a vuoto e analisi a elementi finiti di un O-ring di riferimento operante con diversi livelli di interferenza con la cava, identificando la precompressione limite per la tenuta e la corrispondente pressione di contatto con la cava. Si sono poi effettuate prove di trazione e di Compression Set su campioni di O-ring in EPDM, preventivamente sottoposti a diversi livelli di irraggiamento in campi misti di neutroni e gamma, analizzando l’effetto della dose assorbita sul comportamento meccanico del materiale e sulle corrispondenti proprietà resistenziali, e definendo opportune leggi costitutive. Si sono infine simulate le progressive modifiche di comportamento della guarnizione indotte dall’irraggiamento, prevedendone la durata in esercizio in termini di tenuta e di resistenza strutturale
Strangeness Enhancement in and Interactions at SPS Energies
The systematics of strangeness enhancement is calculated using the HIJING and
VENUS models and compared to recent data on , and
collisions at CERN/SPS energies (). The HIJING model is used to
perform a {\em linear} extrapolation from to . VENUS is used to
estimate the effects of final state cascading and possible non-conventional
production mechanisms. This comparison shows that the large enhancement of
strangeness observed in collisions, interpreted previously as possible
evidence for quark-gluon plasma formation, has its origins in non-equilibrium
dynamics of few nucleon systems. % Strangeness enhancement %is therefore traced
back to the change in the production dynamics %from to minimum bias
and central collisions. A factor of two enhancement of at
mid-rapidity is indicated by recent data, where on the average {\em one}
projectile nucleon interacts with only {\em two} target nucleons. There appears
to be another factor of two enhancement in the light ion reaction relative
to , when on the average only two projectile nucleons interact with two

New data on OZI rule violation in bar{p}p annihilation at rest
The results of a measurement of the ratio R = Y(phi pi+ pi-) / Y(omega pi+
pi-) for antiproton annihilation at rest in a gaseous and in a liquid hydrogen
target are presented. It was found that the value of this ratio increases with
the decreasing of the dipion mass, which demonstrates the difference in the phi
and omega production mechanisms. An indication on the momentum transfer
dependence of the apparent OZI rule violation for phi production from the 3S1

Trust and trustworthiness in the villain’s dilemma: collaborative dishonesty with conflicting incentives?
Wrong-doers may try to collaborate to achieve greater gains than would be possible alone. Yet potential collaborators face two issues: they need to accurately identify other cheaters and trust that their collaborators do not betray them when the opportunity arises. These concerns may be in tension, since the people who are genuine cheaters could also be the likeliest to be untrustworthy. We formalise this interaction in the “villain’s dilemma” and use it in a laboratory experiment to study three questions: what kind of information helps people to overcome the villain’s dilemma? Does the villain’s dilemma promote or hamper cheating relative to individual settings? Who participates in the villain’s dilemma and who is a trustworthy collaborative cheater? We find that information has important consequences for behaviour in the villain’s dilemma. Public information about actions is important for supporting collaborative dishonesty, while more limited sources of information lead to back-stabbing and poor collaboration. We also find that the level of information, role of the decision maker, and round of the experiment affect whether dishonesty is higher or lower in the villain’s dilemma than in our individual honesty settings. Finally, individual factors are generally unrelated to collaborating but individual dishonesty predicts untrustworthiness as a collaborator
Objectified conformity: Working self-objectification increases conforming behavior
The present work explores whether self-objectification triggered by doing peculiar work activities would increase people\u2019s conforming behavior. We conducted an experimental study in which participants (N = 140) were asked to perform a high objectifying activity (vs. low objectifying activity vs. baseline condition) simulating a real computer job. Afterwards, their levels of self-objectification and conforming behavior were assessed. Results revealed that participants who performed the high objectifying activity self-objectified (i.e., perceived themselves as lacking human mental states) more than the other conditions and, in turn, conformed more to the judgments of unknown similar others. Crucially, increased self-objectification mediated the effects of the high objectifying activity on enhancing conforming behavior. Theoretical and applied implications of these findings are discusse
Experimental study of consistency degradation of different greases in mixed neutron and gamma radiation
Many of the moving components in accelerator and target environments require lubrication. Lubricants in such environments are exposed to high fluxes of secondary radiation, which originates from beam interactions with the target and from beam losses. The secondary radiation is a mix of components, which can include significant fractions of neutrons. Lubricants are radiation-sensitive polymeric materials. The radiation-induced modifications of their structure reduce their service lifetime and impose additional facility maintenance, which is complicated by the environmental radioactivity. The study of the lubricants radiation resistance is therefore necessary for the construction of new generation accelerators and target systems. Nevertheless, data collected in mixed radiation fields are scarce. Nine commercial greases were irradiated at a TRIGA Mark II Research Reactor to serve for the construction of new accelerator projects like the European Spallation Source (ESS) at Lund (Sweden) and Selective Production of Exotic Species (SPES) at Legnaro, (Italy). Mixed neutron and gamma doses ranging from 0.1MGy to 9.0MGy were delivered to the greases. For an experimental quantification of their degradation, consistency was measured. Two of the greases remained stable, while the others became fluid. Post-irradiation examinations evidence the cleavage of the polymeric structure as the dominant radiation effect. Dose and fluence limits for the use of each product are presented. Apart from the scientific significance, the results represent an original and useful reference in selecting radiation resistant greases for accelerator and target applications
