Simple applications of Noether's first theorem in quantum mechanics and electromagnetism
Internal global symmetries exist for the free non-relativistic
Schr\"{o}dinger particle, whose associated Noether charges--the space integrals
of the wavefunction and the wavefunction multiplied by the spatial
coordinate--are exhibited. Analogous symmetries in classical electromagnetism
are also demonstrated.Comment: 12 page
[Review of] Margaret Connell Szasz. Indian Education in the American Colonies, 1607-1783
In this ethnohistory of American Indian education, Margaret Szasz broadly interprets education to mean the transmission of culture over time. Within the arena of contact, prominent Indians who helped mediate the relations between Euro -- and Native Americans are identified. Szasz calls these individuals cultural brokers, and her analysis of their roles in the history of colonial education is an important contribution to scholarship
The Atlanta Housing Authority's Olympic Legacy Program: Public Housing Projects To Mixed Income Communities
This study seeks to assess the results of the Olympic Legacy Program of the Atlanta Housing Authority. It examines the policy changes by the Housing Authority that were designed to reduce the concentration of poor people living in the City of Atlanta. It is focused on the first three public housing projects that were changed to mixed-income communities
Exponential Conditional Volatility Models
The asymptotic distribution of maximum likelihood estimators is derived for a class of exponential generalized autoregressive conditional heteroskedasticity (EGARCH) models. The result carries over to models for duration and realised volatility that use an exponential link function. A key feature of the model formulation is that the dynamics are driven by the score
A Test Bed for Evaluating the Performance of IoT Networks
The use of smaller, personal IoT networks has increased over the past several years. These devices demand a lot of resources but only have limited access. To establish and sustain a flexible network connection, 6LoWPAN with RPL protocol is commonly used. While RPL provides a low-cost solution for connection, it lacks load balancing mechanisms. Improvements in OF load balancing can be implemented to strengthen network stability. This paper proposes a test bed configuration to show the toll of frequent parent switching on 6LoWPAN. Contikiâs RPL 6LoWPAN software runs on STM32 Nucleo microcontrollers with expansion boards for this test bed. The configuration tests frequency of parent changes and packet loss to demonstrate network instability of different RPL OFs. Tests on MRHOF for RPL were executed to confirm the working configuration. Results, with troubleshooting and improvements, show a working bed. The laid-out configuration provides a means for testing network stability in IoT networks
The Urban Superintendent: Creating Great Schools While Surviving on the Job
Captures the highlights of a colloquium of successful former superintendents of urban public schools. Offers some general guidance to help guide new superintendents as they accept the multiple challenges of overseeing a large urban school system
