[์˜๋ฌธ] In the area of glaucoma, we need an accurate, highly reproducible optic nerve head analysis method for the purpose of early diagnosis and detection of progression of the disease. Confocal laser tomographic scanner (Heidelberg Retinal Tomograph ; HRT) is capable of detecting fine glaucomatous optic nerve head change, and it is also a highly reproducible method in detection of early glaucomatous optic nerve head change. So it is widely applied for diagnosis and follow up of glaucoma, and wide investigation is undertaken about the application of HRT. But the normal parameters in HRT, especially in Koreans, are not widely available, and the study on topographic measurements of the optic nerve head in early and progressed glaucoma patients is also needed. We analyzed the optic nerve head of 100 normal eyes with HRT, and got the mean value of each parameter in HRT. We also examined 84 eyes of glaucoma patients. Glaucoma patients were divided into 3 groups according to mean defect in Humphrey visual field analyzer(Group 1:above -5.00, group 2:between -5.00 and -10.00, group 3:below -10.00). The mean value of the parameter in HRT are as follows :disk area:2.35mm**2, cup area:0.48mm**2 , C/D ratio:0.20, rim area:1.86mm**2 , cup volume:0.10um**3 , rim volume:0.55um**3 , mean cup depth:0.19mm, maximal cup depth:0.59mm, cup shape measure:-0,23, height variation contour:0.42, mean retinal nerve fiber layer thickness:0.28mm, retinal nerve fiber layer cross sectional area: 1.52mm**2 . Comparing with normal subjects, group 1 patients had significant difference in disk area, cup area, C/D ratio, rim area, cup volume, rim volume, mean cup depth, maximal cup depth, cup shape measure, height variation contour, and mean retinal nerve fiber layer thickness. All glaucoma patients, including group 1, 2, 3, had significantly different value in all parameters. The comparison among each group of glaucoma patients showed significant difference in cup area, C/D ratio, rim area, cup volume, rim volume, cup shape measure, and mean retinal nerve fiber layer thickness. The results of our study shows that we can apply confocal scanning laser tomography to early diagnosis of glaucoma, detection of progression of the disease, and preoperative & postoperative follow up of the optic nerve head in glaucoma patients. And we can do good use of the normal parameters in Koreans for diagnosis of glaucoma.prohibitio
