We also attempted to reveal the differences in career guidance efficacy according to the characteristic variables of the children and the parents. A total of 1,548 parents of high school students across Korea were surveyed. The study identified 7 factors represented by 32 items regarding career guidance efficacy. The 7 factors can be categorized into 2 higher factors for career guidance efficacy: "support" (sub-factors: active career support, acceptance and encouragement for children, career education experience, and giving autonomy and responsibility to children) and "regulation" (sub-factors: negative emotional experience, the spouse's involvement, and awareness of child characteristics). In order to verify the reliability of the scale, internal consistency and retest reliability were used and confirmatory factor analysis was conducted to measure construct validity. There was no correlation between career guidance efficacy and where the participants live. However, career guidance efficacy is greater when the mother's education level is high and when the children are in lower grades. By age, career guidance efficacy of parents in their forties was higher than that of any other age group

The purpose of this study is to develope the parent-efficacy of career guidance for youth scale. To measure parent-efficacy of career guidance for youth, in the process, 20 parents were interviewed and the interview data were analysed to extract basic items. 54 items were selected and modified from 136 items sampled from literatures and the interview data. This was done through psychologists and statistician's judgement along with interview and cognitive tests for 2 parents for content validity. Item analysis and factor analysis were conducted, the factor analysis revealed 32 items loaded high on 7 factors confirming the scales construct validity. These 7 factors of the parenting self -efficacy of career guidance were : active support on career development(8 items), acceptance and encouragement(6 items), negative experience(6 items), career education experience(3 items), gaining spouse's support(3 items), awareness of children's character(3 items), teaching children self-regulation and accountability(3 items). The results of the confirmatory factor analysis confirmed these sub-scales. Correlation coefficients between the self-efficacy scale, the parents self- efficacy scale, and the performance of parenting scale, were examined to provided an evidence of criterion -related validity of the scale. the results lend a support to the parent-efficacy of career guidance scale as a valid instrument

Fourteen school counselors from elementary, middle and high schools were interviewed divided into three different groups. Three researchers were involved in research design and data analysis. As results of the study, 4 domains (counselors, clients, relationship between counselors and clients, and utilizing context), 27 categories, and 65 concepts of effect factors were derived. As effect factors of counselors, respect and warm heart toward clients, listening and accepting, making clients reveal their emotion, explaining with simple and easy words, develop into personal counseling, focusing on problem solving, and making them understand themselves were derived. As clients, high cognitive ability and motivation and positive experience of counseling and ordinary life were derived. As relationship between counselors and clients, making safe and good relationship, preventing tagging, and having natural relationship in usual life were derived. As utilizing context, counseling and cooperation of teachers and parents, mediation of related students, executing peer counseling, referring to proper institutions, executing case meeting in school, and utilizing whole-school approach were derived. In the present study, we examined how internet addiction influence on the level of psychological symptom and self-esteem in elementary school student. The sample in the current study consisted of 196 elementary school students, whereas most of previous studies utilized samples of adolescents attending middle- or high-schools. The internet addiction was assessed by Internet addiction Inventory(Young, 1996), Psychological symptom and self-esteem was measured by the Beck youth Inventory(Beck,2001), CBCL, SCL-90-R. The results indicated that children at high-risk of internet addiction showed lower self-concept, felt more anxious, depressed, and angry, and were more likely to show disruptive behavior and aggressive tendency compared to children at low-risk of internet addiction. The purpose of this study was to translate Gender Role Conflict Scale(GRCS) and to examine the cultural validity of Korean version of GRCS(K-GRCS). In 1986 O'Neil, Helms, Gable, David, and Wrightsman developed Gender Role Conflict Scale that assesses mes's problems with their gender role socialization. They found the construct of gender role conflict consists of four different factors; Success, Power, and Competition(SPC), Restrictive Emotionality(RE), Restricted and Affectionate Behavior Between Men(RABBM), and Conflict Between Work and Family Relations(CBWFR). These four factors served as factor targents in principal components analyis of K-GRSC obtained from 158 Korean college men. The difference between men and women was examined through 168 female samples. The result suggest three-factor structure fitted better and called the further examination of cultural validity of gender role conflict in the future. The comparison with Korean Sex Role Inventory(K-SRI), and Korean Gender Role Stress Scale for Men prove the gender role conflict is the salient and distinct psychological construct of men. The purpose of this study was to explore the career development of Korean adolescents by examining 208 college students'(127 male students and 81 female students from three different universities) career aspiration, the orientation to occupational sex role, and the orientation to prestige of occupations. Korean college students were expected to have the cognitive occupational map which is congruent with the Korean Job Map based on the 2001 Korean labor market. The responses of 208 Korean students inform the sex difference in the career aspiration. Boys have higher aspirations than girls in Realistic and Investigative occupations while girls have higher aspirations than boys in Social occupations in terms of Holland occupational types. The two-dimensional occupational map(Sex type by Prestige level) suggests a) Korea undergraduates have similar images of sex type of occupations with the Korean Job Map and b) they have similar images of the prestige level of occupations with the Korean Job Map. The uniqueness of Korean adolescents' career development and the cultural validity of Gottfredson's career development theory are discussed based on this research result and the previous research findings
