[์˜๋ฌธ] The purpose of this study was to determine the presence or absence of pulsation of the phalanx distalis of the middle finger of pregnant women in labour and pregnant women not in labour. The subjects of this study were 75 pregnant women not in labour and 64 women in labour. The pregnant women were attending โ…  general hospital antenatal clinic and the women in labour were obstetric patients admitted to K general hospital and Y midwifery clinic in Pusan. Data were collected from April 20, 1987 to May 13, 1987. Data were analyzed by means of percentile,x**2-test and ANOVA. The pulsation of the phalanx distalis of the middle finger was determined by palpation of the distal part of the subjects middle finger for one minute. The results of this study were as follows; 1. The pregnant women not in labour and the women in labour were homogeneous groups in demographic and obstetric variables. 2. Hypothesis 1 : "The pulsation of the phalanx distalis of the middle finger will be present in women in labour, but not in pregnant women who are not in labour" was supparted. 3. Hypothesis 2 : "The wider the cervical dilatations the higher the radial pulse rate and pulsation rate on the middle finger" was rejected (F=1.75, p>.05). 4. Hypothesis 3 : "The wider the cervical dilatation, the higher the blood pressure" was supported (systolic blood pressure : F=151.59, p<.001 diastolic blood pressure : F=113.63, p<.001). In conclusion, the presence of the pulsation of the phalanx distalis of the middle finger was found to be an important sign of labour.restrictio
