[์˜๋ฌธ] The functional roles of sialoglycoconjugates are mediation of cell adherence, control of viscoelasticity of mucus and server as receptor sites for binding of exogenous macromolecules such as those of bacterial or viral etilogy. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the distribution and penultimate sugar of sialoglycoconjugates in developing murine nasal mucosa. Nasal cavities of mice(BALB/C) were fixed by intracardiac perfusion with 2.0% glutaraldehyde and embedded in Epon812. The serially sectioned slides were stained with MAA and SNA. And then, the other slides were stained with DBA and PNA before and after neuraminidase treatment. In olfactory mucosa, MAA and SNA labeled all cell surfaces and Bowman's glands from sixteenth gestational day. Cilia on a minority of ciliated cells in the mucosa of the septum and nasal floor was stained with MAA. PNA labelled cell surfaces of respiratory mucosa after neuraminidase digestion. However, MAA and SNA didn't label goblet cells regardless of aging. Our results indicate that there are different carbohydrate structures of sialoglycoconjugates in olfactory and respiratory mucosa.restrictio
