    Flocculation effect of Shinella sp. xn-1 on Microcystis aeruginosa

    【目的】研究絮凝功能细菌xn-1对有害水华藻--铜绿微囊藻的絮凝效果,以期为有害水华的治理提供新的选择。【方法】采用涂布划线法从藻际分离纯化絮凝; 功能微生物;基于16S; rRNA基因序列确定进化地位;通过不同金属离子确定絮凝机制;梯度醇沉法获得絮凝物质;以酶标仪测定絮凝效率。【结果】菌株xn-1确定属于申氏杆菌属; (Shinella),且命名为Shinella sp.; xn-1。在添加Ca~(2+)作为促凝剂的条件下对铜绿微囊藻表现出高效的絮凝效果,其絮凝效果主要来源于胞外上清,而表现出高效的絮凝效果所需要的胞; 外上清添加量为3.0%。从胞外上清中获得的絮凝物质以0.5; g/L的添加量作用于藻细胞后表现出高效的絮凝效果,且随着处理时间增加,絮凝团的体积增大。【结论】Shinella sp.; xn-1通过分泌胞外絮凝物质对铜绿微囊藻表现出高效的絮凝效果,在絮凝作用下藻细胞聚集在一起形成大体积的絮凝团,该研究有利于治理有害水华。[Objective] To study the flocculation effect of bacterial strain xn-1 on; water bloom causing species-Microcystis aeruginosa, to control water; bloom. [Methods] Flocculation bacterium was isolated from phycosphere; based on plate spread and streak technique; 16S rRNA gene was applied to; determine the evolutionary status. Flocculation mechanism was confirmed; by addition of different metal ions as coagulants. Bioflocculant was; obtained by gradient alcohol precipitation. Microplate reader was used; to study flocculation activity. [Results] Strain xn-1 was determined as; a species of the genus Shinella, designated as Shinella sp. xn-1. Strain; xn-1 exhibited high flocculation activity on M. aeruginosa with adding; Ca~(2+) as coagulants, and the flocculation activity was originated from; extracellular supernatant, showing high flocculation efficiency with the; concentration of 3.0%. Bioflocculant isolated from extracellular; supernatant could exhibit high flocculation effect with the addition of; 0.5 g/L, and the algal flocs became huger with the increase of; processing time. [Conclusion] Shinella sp. xn-1 shows high flocculation; activity on M. aeruginosa through secreting extracellular bioflocculant,; and the flocs with large volume are formed under the flocculation; effect.     Self-propulsion of flapping bodies in viscous fluids: Recent advances and perspectives

    Flapping-powered propulsion is used by many animals to locomote through air or water. Here we review recent experimental and numerical studies on self-propelled mechanical systems powered by a flapping motion. These studies improve our understanding of the mutual interaction between actively flapping bodies and surrounding fluids. The results obtained in these works provide not only new insights into biolocomotion but also useful information for the biomimeticdesign of artificial flyers and swimmers.</div

    On applicability of the Kutta-Joukowski theorem to low-Reynolds-number unsteady flows

    The limitations of the Kutta-Joukowski (K-J) theorem in prediction of the time-averaged and instantaneous lift of an airfoil and a wing in low-Reynolds-number unsteady flows are examined. A general lift formula for a rectangular control volume is given in a very simple form in the framework of viscous flow theory, which provides a rational foundation for a direct comparison with the K-J theorem considered as a reduced case. Direct numerical simulations on the stationary and flapping flat plate and rectangular wing are conducted to assess the accuracy of both the K-J theorem and the general lift formula. In particular, the Lamb vector integral for the vortex force and the acceleration term of fluid for the unsteady inertial effect are evaluated as the main contributions to the unsteady lift generation of a flapping wing

    A dynamic coupling model for hybrid atomistic-continuum computations

    A dynamic coupling model is developed for a hybrid atomistic-continuum computation in micro- and nano-fluidics. In the hybrid atomistic-continuum computation, a molecular dynamics (MD) simulation is utilized in one region where the continuum assumption breaks down and the Navier-Stokes (NS) equations are used in another region where the continuum assumption holds. In the overlapping part of these two regions, a constrained particle dynamics is needed to couple the MD simulation and the NS equations. The currently existing coupling models for the constrained particle dynamics have a coupling parameter, which has to be empirically determined. In the present work, a novel dynamic coupling model is introduced where the coupling parameter can be calculated as the computation progresses rather than inputing a priori. The dynamic coupling model is based on the momentum constraint and exhibits a correct relaxation rate. The results from the hybrid simulation on the Couette flow and the Stokes flow are in good agreement with the data from the full MD simulation and the solutions of the NS equations, respectively.     Drag reduction using riblets downstream of a high Reynolds number inclined forward step flow

    Micro-riblet is an efficient passive method for controlling turbulent boundary layers, with the potential to reduce frictional drag. In various applications within the transportation industry, flow separation is a prevalent flow phenomenon. However, the precise drag reduction performance of riblets in the presence of flow separation remains unclear. To address this, an inclined forward step model is proposed to investigate the interaction between riblet and upstream flow separation. The large eddy simulation (LES) method is applied to simulate the flow over geometries with different step angles and riblet positions. The results show riblets still reduce wall frictional resistance when subjected to the upstream flow separation. Remarkably, as the angle of the step increases from 0 degrees to 30 degrees, the drag reduction experiences an increment from 9.5% to 12.6%. From a turbulence statistics standpoint, riblets act to suppress the Reynold stress in the near-wall region and dampen ejection motions, thus weakening momentum exchange. Quadrant analysis reveals that with the augmentation of flow separation, the Q2 motion within the flow field intensifies, subsequently enhancing the riblet-induced drag reduction. Moreover, the position of the rib lets has a significant impact on the pressure drag. Riblets close to the point of separation enhance flow separation, altering the surface pressure distribution and thus increasing the resistance. The results reveal that when the riblets are positioned approximately 160 riblet heights away from the step, their effect on the upstream flow separation becomes negligible. The precise performance of riblets under complex flow conditions is important for their practical engineering application
