Inner fission barriers of uranium isotopes in the deformed relativistic Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum
The inner fission barriers of the even-even uranium isotopes from the proton
to the neutron drip line are studied with the deformed relativistic
Hartree-Bogoliubov theory in continuum. A periodic evolution for the ground
state shapes is shown with the neutron number, i.e., spherical shapes at shell
closures 126, 184, 258, and prolate dominated shapes between them. In
analogy to the shape evolution, the inner fission barriers also exhibit a
periodic behavior: peaks at the shell closures and valleys in the mid-shells.
The triaxial effect to the inner fission barrier is evaluated using the
triaxial relativistic mean field calculations plus a simple BCS method for
pairing. With the triaxial correction included, good consistency in the inner
barrier heights is found with the available empirical data. Besides, the
evolution from the proton to the neutron drip line is in accord with the
results by the multi-dimensionally constrained relativistic mean field theory.
A flat valley in the fission barrier height is predicted around the
neutron-rich nucleus U which may play a role of fission recycling in
the astrophysical -process nucleosynthesis.Comment: 7 pages, 6 figure
Glycosylation of the Sodium Channel β4 Subunit is Developmentally Regulated and Involves in Neuritic Degeneration
Aberrant protein glycosylation plays major roles in neurodegenerative diseases, including Parkinson's disease (PD). Glycoproteomics showed that the glycosylation of sodium channel β4 was significantly increased in human brain tissue. β4-specific antibodies reacted in immunoblot assays with the 35- and 38-kDa bands from the membrane fractions isolated from neonatal PD transgenic mice but only with the 35-kDa band of the neonatal wild-type mice. The size of the 38-kDa immunoreactive protein is in close agreement with previously reported, suggesting heavy glycosylation of this protein in adult wild-type and neonatal PD transgenic brain tissues. However, the neonatal wild-type mice membrane fractions only contained the 35-kDa immunoreactive protein, and the additional 38-kDa band was not shown until postnatal day 7. Enzymatic deglycosylation of the membrane preparations only converted the 38-kDa band into a faster migrating protein, which was consistent with heavy glycosylation of this protein. The glycosylated state of β4 was developmentally regulated and was altered in disease state. Neurite outgrowth assay demonstrated that overexpression of deglycosylated mutant β4-MUT accelerated neurite extension and increased the number of filopodia-like protrusions, when compared with β4-WT and the vector. These results suggest that extensive glycosylation of β4 subunit play roles in morphological changes, and the altered glycosylation may be involved in the pathogenesis of PD
Anticancer potentials of sinomenine from Sinomenium acutum: A mini-review
Sinomenine, an important isoquinoline from Sinomenium acutum (Menispermaceae), is currently considered as a reliable drug for treating various malignant cancers including breast cancer, colon cancer, lung cancer, liver cancer, gastric cancer, osteosarcoma cervical cancer, and esophageal cancer. The pharmacological mechanisms are probably related to induction of apoptosis and cell cycle arrest. This paper was aimed at reviewing the anticancer potential of sinomenine, which is expected to be beneficial in developing this compound as a candidate drug for cancer therapy. Keywords: Sinomenine, Anticancer, Sinomenium acutum, Traditional Chinese Medicin
PERIOPERATIVE DEXMEDETOMIDINE REDUCES DELIRIUM IN ELDERLY PATIENTS AFTER LUNG CANCER SURGERY
Background: Delirium, which is one of the most disturbing postoperative complications in elderly patients, shows high morbidity in patients undergoing lung cancer surgery. Dexmedetomidine (DEX) is considered a potential prophylactic agent for preventing patients’ delirium after lung cancer surgery.
Subjects and methods: Medical records of lung cancer patients over 65 years old with radical pulmonary resection at Henan Provincial People’s Hospital from January 2015 to December 2017, China, were evaluated. Patients, care-providers, and investigators were all blinded to group assignment. DEX was administered in the preoperative and intraoperative periods. The incidence of delirium was calculated based on the Intensive Care Delirium Screening Checklist (ICDSC). Scores of ≥4 and 1-3 points represent the diagnoses of delirium and a pre -delirious state, respectively.
Results: During postoperative day 1 (POD 1) to POD 7, delirium occurs in both groups. During postoperative POD 1 to POD 7, the incidence of delirium is lower in the DEX group than that in the control group. Furthermore, there are more mild delirium patients but fewer moderate and severe delirium patients in the DEX group compared with the control group. Finally, patients in the DEX group have a shorter duration of delirium, lower numeric pain rating scale during movement and better sleep quality.
Conclusion: Preoperative and intraoperative application of DEX can reduce the incidence and intensity of delirium after pulmonary resection in elderly patients with lung cancer
Comprehensive Evaluation of Wild \u3cem\u3eElymus\u3c/em\u3e L. Germplasm in Inner Mongolia
Grassland degradation is increasing in severity and is an important global issue in the 21st century. Increasing research is being conducted on how to solve these problems (Niu and Jiang 2004). Restoration and revegetation of degraded grassland and the establishment of artificial pastures are important in addressing degradation. Successful restoration requires the identification of species and seed sources that are adapted to the ecological conditions of the restoration site. Elymus L. is a large genus that contains about 150 species distributed across a wide range of ecological sites across temperate and subtropical regions of the world (Dewey 1984; Love 1984). There are at least 12 species in China (Guo 1987). Elymus includes many economically important forage grasses as well as species that possess useful genes for disease resistance, stress tolerance and adaptation, which can potentially be transferred to cereal crops through gene introgression. Species within Elymus have the potential for playing an important role in artificial pasture construction, grassland and animal husbandry development and ecological restoration. However, research is lacking on Chinese Elymus species, which can provide critical information for selecting suitable Elymus varieties and extending their use in China
A Small Molecule Compound Targeting STAT3 DNA-Binding Domain Inhibits Cancer Cell Proliferation, Migration, and Invasion
Signal transducer and activator of
transcription 3 (STAT3) plays
important roles in multiple aspects of cancer aggressiveness including
migration, invasion, survival, self-renewal, angiogenesis, and tumor
cell immune evasion by regulating the expression of multiple downstream
target genes. STAT3 is constitutively activated in many malignant
tumors and its activation is associated with high histological grade
and advanced cancer stages. Thus, inhibiting STAT3 promises an attracting
strategy for treatment of advanced and metastatic cancers. Herein,
we identified a STAT3 inhibitor, inS3-54, by targeting the DNA-binding
domain of STAT3 using an improved virtual screening strategy. InS3-54
preferentially suppresses proliferation of cancer over non-cancer
cells and inhibits migration and invasion of malignant cells. Biochemical
analyses show that inS3-54 selectively inhibits STAT3 binding to DNA
without affecting the activation and dimerization of STAT3. Furthermore,
inS3-54 inhibits expression of STAT3 downstream target genes and STAT3
binding to chromatin in situ. Thus, inS3-54 represents a novel probe
for development of specific inhibitors targeting the DNA-binding domain
of STAT3 and a potential therapeutic for cancer treatments
Semi-leptonic form factors of in QCD sum rules
There exists a significant deviation between the most recent Lattice QCD
simulation and experimental measurement by Belle for
. In this work, we investigate the
form factors in QCD sum rules. To this end, the two-point
correlation functions of and , and the three-point correlation
functions of are calculated. At the QCD level, contributions
from up to dimension-6 four-quark operators are considered, and the leading
order results of the Wilson coefficients are obtained. For the form factors,
relatively stable Borel windows can be found. Our form factors are comparable
with those of Lattice QCD, except for . The obtained form factors
are then used to predict the branching ratios of , and our predictions are consistent with the most recent
data of ALICE and Belle, and those of Lattice QCD within error. Given that the
branching ratios only contain limited information, we suggest the
experimentalists directly measure the form factors of .Comment: 18 pages, 7 figures; version accepted by PR
