Extraction of Xylindein from Chlorociboria aeruginosa complex and its biological characteristics

    Get PDF
Xylindein (XL) was effectively extracted from wood rotted by Chlorociboria aeruginosa complex using a hot-compressed-water; in particular, with aqueous NaOH solution. The blue color of XL became red by ultraviolet irradiation, while XL was blue. It was estimated that the phenolic hydroxyl groups of XL were acylated by ultraviolet irradiation, because the acetyl XL was red. The effect of XL on the growth of Chinese Hamster Ovary cells was examined in the medium supplemented by XL. In the presence of XL, the cell growth in the medium was much retarded. The retardation was reduced when the irradiated XL was used

High-resolution seismic reflection profiling across the Senya fault at Hanaoka, northern Honshu, Japan: Data acquisition and processing

The Senya fault, northern Honshu, Japan, which generated the Rikuu earthquake (Mj 7.2) 1896, is a typical intra-arc active thrust. Subsurface geometry provides essential information for better understanding strong ground motions and crustal deformation processes. A high-resolution seismic reflection survey was conducted along the 63km long seismic line across the toe of the thrust to reveal the subsurface geometry. The seismic source was a Mini-vibrator truck and the receiver interval was 10 m. The seismic data were processed by the standard common mid-point method. The Senya fault is clearly identified as a boundary between horizontal reflectors of the basin fill in the Yokote basin and moderately dipping reflectors beneath the Senya hills. The thrust occurred in late Miocene mudstone, and shows a flat and ramp geometry. The emergent thrust dips 30 degrees down to 500m, and changes its dip to subhorizontal following the distribution of the mudstone

Ion-cyclotron heating was applied to the Large Helical Device by using single, trap loop antennas located at the outward side of the toroid. Good experimental results were obtaine with adequate plasma confining configurations and antenna conditionings.Loading resistance of the antenna was2-8Ohm and this was a sufficiently large value. Various heating characteristics were investigated by changing the heating modes, ion species and magneticfield configurations. The minoriy-ion heating mode resulted in the best heating performances, and the heatin gcharacteristics largely depended on the cyclotron resonance positions. There were some unique features due to the heliotron configuration. These results showed the effectiveness of the ICRF heating in a helical device and the appropriateness of the ICRF antenna design in the LHD

Seismic exploration at Fuji volcano with active sources : The outline of the experiment and the arrival time data

Fuji volcano (altitude 3,776m) is the largest basaltic stratovolcano in Japan. In late August and early September 2003, seismic exploration was conducted around Fuji volcano by the detonation of 500 kg charges of dynamite to investigate the seismic structure of that area. Seismographs with an eigenfrequency of 2 Hz were used for observation, positioned along a WSW-ENE line passing through the summit of the mountain. A total of 469 seismic stations were installed at intervals of 250-500 m. The data were stored in memory on-site using data loggers. The sampling interval was 4 ms. Charges were detonated at 5 points, one at each end of the observation line and 3 along its length. The first arrival times and the later-phase arrival times at each station for each detonation were recorded as data. P-wave velocities in the surface layer were estimated from the travel time curves near the explosion points, with results of 2.5 km/s obtained for the vicinity of Fuji volcano and 4.0 km5/s elsewhere
