    Solitary Waves in Optical Fibers Governed by Higher Order Dispersion

    An exact solitary wave solution is presented for the nonlinear Schrodinger equation governing the propagation of pulses in optical fibers including the effects of second, third and fourth order dispersion. The stability of this soliton-like solution with sech2 shape is proven by the sign-definiteness of the operator and an integral of the Sobolev type. The main criteria governing the existence of such stable localized pulses propagating in optical fibers are also formulated. A unique feature of these soliton-like optical pulses propagating in a fiber with higher order dispersion is that their parameters satisfy efficient scaling relations. The main soliton solution term given by perturbation theory is also presented when absorption or gain is included in the nonlinear Schrodinger equation. We anticipate that this type of stable localized pulses could find practical applications in communications, slow-light devices and ultrafast lasers.Comment: 4 pages 3 Figure

    Note on Dirac--K\"ahler massless fields

    We obtain the canonical and symmetrical Belinfante energy-momentum tensors of Dirac--K\"{a}hler's fields. It is shown that the traces of the energy-momentum tensors are not equal to zero. We find the canonical and Belinfante dilatation currents which are not conserved, but a new conserved dilatation current is obtained. It is pointed out that the conformal symmetry is broken.     On Possible Light-Torsion Mixing in Background Magnetic Field

    The interaction of the light with propagating axial torsion fields in the presence of an external magnetic field has been investigated. Axial torsion fields appearing in higher derivative quantum gravity possess two states, with spin one and zero, with different masses. The torsion field with spin-0 state is a ghost that can be removed if its mass is infinite. We investigate the possibility when the light mixes with the torsion fields resulting in the effect of vacuum birefringence and dichroism.     Effective Lagrangian and Dynamical Symmetry Breaking in the SU(2)XU(1) NJL Model

    Dynamical symmetry breaking and the formation of scalar condensates in the SU(2)XU(1) Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with two coupling constants has been studied in the framework of the mean field approximation. The bosonization procedures of the model are performed using the functional integration method. The possibility of the spontaneous CP symmetry breaking in the model under consideration has been shown.     Phase diagram of Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with dimensional regularization

    We investigate the phase diagram on temperature-chemical potential plane in the Nambu-Jona-Lasinio model with the dimensional regularization. While the structure of the resulting diagram shows resemblance to the one in the frequently used cutoff regularization, some results of our study indicate striking difference between these regularizations. The diagram in the dimensional regularization exhibits strong tendency of the first order phase transition.Comment: 9 pages, 9 figure

The point of this method is to reduce loading cargo problem to two-dimensional packing problem. This problem can be solved by using of various algorithms. There is analysis of several algorithms that are most often used in practical calculations of objects distribution in 2D space in this paper. The object of this study is transport of the metal processing company and its products (cargo). PHP programming language, MySQL database, and Apache web server are used to create client application.     Coulomb's law modification in nonlinear and in noncommutative electrodynamics

    We study the lowest-order modifications of the static potential for Born-Infeld electrodynamics and for the θ\theta-expanded version of the noncommutative U(1) gauge theory, within the framework of the gauge-invariant but path-dependent variables formalism. The calculation shows a long-range correction (1/r51/r^5-type) to the Coulomb potential in Born-Infeld electrodynamics. However, the Coulomb nature of the potential (to order e2e^2) is preserved in noncommutative electrodynamics.Comment: 14 pages, 1 figur

    Charge Radii and Magnetic Polarizabilities of the Rho and K* Mesons in QCD String Theory

    The effective action for light mesons in the external uniform static electromagnetic fields was obtained on the basis of QCD string theory. We imply that in the presence of light quarks the area law of the Wilson loop integral is valid. The approximation of the Nambu-Goto straight-line string is used to simplify the problem. The Coulomb-like short-range contribution which goes from one-gluon exchange is also neglected. We do not take into account spin-orbital and spin-spin interactions of quarks and observe the ρ\rho and KK^* mesons. The wave function of the meson ground state is the Airy function. Using the virial theorem we estimate the mean charge radii of mesons in terms of the string tension and the Airy function zero. On the basis of the perturbative theory, in the small external magnetic field we find the diamagnetic polarizabilities of ρ\rho and KK^* mesons: βρ=0.8×104fm3\beta_\rho =-0.8\times 10^{-4} {fm}^3, βK=0.57×104fm3\beta_{K^*}=-0.57\times 10^{-4} {fm}^3Comment: 22 pages, no figures, in LaTeX 2.09, typos correcte

    Recent Results From the EU POF-PLUS Project: Multi-Gigabit Transmission Over 1 mm Core Diameter Plastic Optical Fibers

    Recent activity to achieve multi-gigabit transmission over 1 mm core diameter graded-index and step-index plastic optical fibers for distances up to 50 meters is reported in this paper. By employing a simple intensity-modulated direct-detection system with pulse amplitude or digital multi-tone modulation techniques, low-cost transceivers and easy to install large-core POFs, it is demonstrated that multi-gigabit transmission up to 10 Gbit/s over 1-mm core diameter POF infrastructure is feasible. The results presented in this paper were obtained in the EU FP7 POF-PLUS project, which focused on applications in different scenarios, such as in next-generation in-building residential networks and in datacom applications

    Stabilized vortex solitons in layered Kerr media

    In this letter we demonstrate the possibility of stabilizing beams with angular momentum propagating in Kerr media. Large propagation distances without filamentation can be achieved in layered media with alternating focusing and defocusing nonlinearities.
