Performance and Comparison of Custom Serial Powering Regulators and Architectures for SLHC Silicon Trackers

    Get PDF
Serial powering is an elegant solution to power the SLHC inner trackers with a minimum volume of cables. Previously R&D on the serial powering of silicon strip detector modules had been based on discrete commercial electronics, but with the delivery of the Atlas Binary Chip Next chip in 0.25 micron CMOS technology (ABCN-25) and the Serial Powering Interface chip (SPi), custom elements of shunt regulators and transistors became available. These ASICs can be used to implement three complementary serial powering architectures. The features of these schemes and their performance with 10 and 20 chip ABCN-25 hybrids will be presented

The Influence of Aesthetic Surgery on the Profile of Emotion

In the clinical practise it has been observed that the person changes physically, too, after aesthetic surgery. The aim of this work was to examine, by objective psychological measurements, what changes occur, and what personality features change. Forty six subjects that had an aesthetic surgery were examined; they were tested before, and eighteen month after the surgery by the Profile Index of Emotion (PIE). Before the re-testing the subjects were analyzed by »The Life Events Scale« to exclude the possibility of the influence of new life events on the results of the re-test. The control group of 29 volunteers was tested by the same psychological instruments. The control group never verbalized the wish for an aesthetic surgery; they were never in psychiatric treatment, and the corresponded to the experimental group in the age, sex and education level. Analysis of the data obtained from PIE test before and after the operation shows a statistical significant increase of the adaptability segments and an improvement of capacity for taking and giving. Emotional conflict does not disappear, but a new balance is established, satisfaction is higher, and the identity is more integrated

Compressive and Tensile Capacity of Recycled Aggregate Concrete (RAC) with Glass as Supplement Material

The amount of construction waste is increased significantly over the years due to reconstruction and the demolition of old buildings. One of the major challenges of our present society is to protect the environment by recycling the existing construction waste. This study concerned on two types of variable in the production of concrete which are the utilization of coarse recycled aggregate and utilization of different supplement ratio of fine glass wastes to cement. To evaluate the viability of this study, an experimental work was performed in order to monitor the mechanical behavior of such concrete. The compression and splitting tensile strength of concrete were determined on this study. From the result, it is conclude that the utilization of recycled aggregate does not much affect in the uniaxial compressive strength and splitting tensile strength of concrete, for replacement ratio up to 25 %. However, the utilization of fine glass as supplement material to cement is increase the uniaxial compressive and splitting tensile strength of concrete, for supplement ratio up to 5 %. Thus, it can be stated that the optimum concrete mixture is the mixture of 25 % recycled aggregate and 5% glass.&nbsp

Citoyennes africaines de la société de l’information : manuel de première urgence à l’intention des décideur(e)s / Réseau genre et TIC

    Get PDF
Written from women’s perspective, this advocacy document presents the major issues faced by African countries related to their entrance in the Information Society. It is a tool for the public, private and civil society stakeholders and decision makers, for integrating gender dimension into ICT policies, to contribute to a fair, plural and inclusive African Information Society

Vertical monopoly power, profit and risk: The British beer industry, c.1970-2004

    Get PDF
By investigating surplus and risk distribution in the British brewing industry, this paper shows that risk and risk transfer are important dimensions of vertical supply chain relationships. A comparative financial analysis shows the effects of models of vertical ownership before and after the break-up of producer controlled tenanted estates and the strategy and performance of pub-owning companies. Contrasting mechanisms for controlling the capture of surplus and division of risk are evaluated. The paper complements prior studies that have concentrated on the brewers by assessing winners and losers amongst pub owning companies and tenants in different models of vertical organisation and how they might be effectively regulated

Electronics and Trigger developments for the Diffractive Physics Proposal at 220 m from LHC-ATLAS

    Get PDF
The instrumentation consists of two sets of Roman Pots installed respectively at 216 and 224m on both sides from the ATLAS IP to measure with precision the position (< 10 micrometers) and the timing (< 5ps) of the two back to back diffracted protons tracks. Each Roman Pot is equipped with several planes of Silicon strips detectors read out by a new version of the ATLAS Silicon tracker ABCD readout chip with a longer latency (6.4 microseconds) and fast OR outputs defining a track segment. Theses inputs are to be combined in time with the ATLAS level 1 trigger accept signal. In addition, these tracks are time filtered with a very fast timing detector (MCP-PMT) allowing to constraint further at the level 2 the position of the IP within a one millimetre precision., The description of the electronics and trigger system as well as the various technical issues associated with such challenging experiments (clocks, cabling,, time monitoring) will be presented
