Šance na dosažení vysokoškolského vzdělání v populaci osob se zdravotním postižením
No full textVzdělání je nástrojem vzestupné sociální mobility, proto je nutné zabezpečit rovný přístup k němu všem společenským skupinám bez ohledu na jejich sociální či zdravotní charakteristiky. Jednou z mnoha skupin, které čelí komplikovanému přístupu ke vzdělání, je populace osob se zdravotním postižením; ty se v různých fázích svých vzdělávacích trajektorií setkávají s omezeními a překážkami, které jim dosažení vyšších úrovní vzdělání ztěžují. Ústředním tématem knihy je přístupnost vysokoškolského vzdělání pro osoby se zdravotním postižením, tedy šance, že se plnohodnotně integrují do akademického života a prostředí a zdárně absolvují studium na vysoké škole. Teoretická část předkládá různá pojetí klíčových konstruktů práce a zasazuje je do příslušného tematického rámce- sociologie vzdělávání. Předmětem výkladu jsou rovněž teorie vzdělanostních nerovností, jejichž praktické důsledky jsou popisovány v jednotlivých fázích vzdělávacího procesu osob se zdravotním postižením. V rámci kvantitativní výzkumné studie, provedené na Univerzitě Karlově na totálním výběru studentů se zdravotním postižením, je pozornost věnována především motivaci těchto studentů zahájit vysokoškolské studium, vlivům působícím na výběr studijního oboru, stejně jako překážkám, se kterými se mohou studenti v průběhu studia setkat, a zdrojům, které mohou k jejich překonávání využívat. S využitím těchto poznatků je v závěru studie sledována úspěšnost studentů se zdravotním postižením v průběhu vysokoškolského studia. (Nakladatelská anotace

No full textEducation is a tool towards upwards social mobility, and it is therefore essential to ensure equal access to it for all groups in society irrespective of their social standing or state of health. One of the many social groups faced with the risk of worsened access to higher levels of education in particular are the disabled, who, at various phases of their educational careers, face restrictions and barriers that substantially impede the achievement of higher levels of education. The central theme of the dissertation is the accessibility of university education for the disabled, that is, their chances of fully integrating into academic life and the university environment and successfully complete their studies there. The theoretical part of the thesis creates a broader informational framework for the chosen theme, presents varying concepts of key thematic constructs and places them within the relevant thematic framework - the sociology of education. The theoretical section also deals with the theory of educational inequalities and individual phases of the education process for the disabled. The quantitative study carried out primarily addressed the motivation of these students to begin studying at university, as well as the factors influencing their selection of field of study. Psychosocial adaptation to paralysis after spinal cord impairment

Sustaining a spinal cord injury with the consequent lifelong paralysis may be considered to be one of the most serious life events due to its devastating and wide-ranging impact on people's lives. Spinal cord injury is a traumatic injury, which typically occurs suddenly and without any warning. Its consequences present an enormous physical, social and psychological trauma which the individual has to confront and come to terms with. The changes caused are life-long and affect every aspect of a person's life. Paralysis leads to wheelchair dependence for mobility. In addition, the individual with a spinal cord impairment may become dependent on others for help and assistance in order to be able to carry out most of the tasks of daily living. All the losses and changes caused by the injury have profound effects on both the spinal cord injured person's social roles and those of their loved ones.
