Chemometric approach to characterization of the selected grape seed oils based on their fatty acids composition and FTIR spectroscopy
Addressing the issues arising from the production and trade of low-quality foods necessitates developing new quality control methods. Cooking oils, especially those produced from the grape seeds, are an example of food products that often suffer from questionable quality due to various adulterations and low-quality fruits used for their production. Among many methods allowing for fast and efficient food quality control, the combination of experimental and advanced mathematical approaches seems most reliable. In this work a method for grape seed oils compositional characterization based on the infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy and fatty acids profile is reported. Also, the relevant parameters of oils are characterized using a combination of standard techniques such as the Principal Component Analysis, k-Means, and Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM) fitting parameters. Two different approaches to perform unsupervised clustering using GMM were investigated. The first approach relies on the profile of fatty acids, while the second is FT-IR spectroscopy-based. The GMM fitting parameters in both approaches were compared. The results obtained from both approaches are consistent and complementary and provide the tools to address the characterization and clustering issues in grape seed oils.O

do Unii Europejskiej. Takie też były oczekiwania władz uczelni i Rady
naukowej konferencji, kiedy przyjmowano za temat przewodni hasło -
„Państwo i społeczeństwo XXI wieku”."(...

Państwo, gospodarka, społeczeństwo w integrującej się Europie TOM 3
Ze wstępu: "1 maja 2004 przyniesie radykalną zmianą sytuacji dotychczasowych
kandydatów do Unii Europejskiej. Z roli aplikanta i petenta przekształcą się
we współdecydenta.
polityków i ekonomistów warunków akcesji. 1 ten etap mamy już za sobą. Pora
makroekonomicznych. Zarówno w ośrodkach rządowych, jak i pozarządowych
dominuje podejście analizujące, co z konkretnego wydarzenia
w innym kraju wynika dla gospodarki polskiej. Stanowczo nie wystarczy to
do pełnienia odpowiedzialnej roli współdecydenta. Potrzebna jest pogłębiona
wiedza na temat gospodarki europejskiej jako całości i poszczególnych
krajów, a także najważniejszych partnerów handlowych i gospodarczych zjednoczonej
Europy. Konieczne są pogłębione prace studialne dotyczące mechanizmów
międzynarodowych, gdyż organy unijne będą się zajmować
w najbliższych latach dalszym rozwojem europejskiego jednolitego Rynku,
rywalizacją gospodarczą z USA i krajami azjatyckimi, liberalizacjąhandlu światowego."(...
Impact of Metal Nanoparticles on the Phytochemical and Antioxidative Properties of Rapeseed Oil
The agricultural uses of nanoparticles continue to be considered as innovative methods that require more in-depth research into their impact on product quality. In our study, we investigated the effects of fertilizers containing metal nanoparticles (silver AgNPs and copper CuNPs) during the plant growth stage of winter rape cultivation, and in most experimental variants, with the exception of the (x2) application of AgNPs, we observed a decrease in the mass of one thousand seeds (MTS). The obtained result was 11.55% higher relative to the control sample in 2019, and also increased after the (x1) 4.36% and (x2) 11.11% application of CuNPS in 2020. The analyzed oxidative stability of the oil increased in both experimental years (2019–2020), with the highest values recorded after the (x1) and (x2) application of CuNPS—4.94% and 8.31%, respectively, in the first year of cultivation, and after the (x2) application of CuNPS—12.07% in the subsequent year. It was also observed that the content of polyphenols, flavonoids, squalene, tocopherols α and δ, chlorophylls, and carotenoids increased in the oil. Moreover, spectral FTIR analysis was performed on the oil samples obtained from cultivations sprayed with solutions containing Ag or Cu nanoparticles and revealed changes in several spectral regions with the maxima at ~1740, 1370, 1230, and ~1090 cm−1. Additionally, a FTIR analysis conducted in combination with multivariate analysis allowed us to classify the studied oils into the most similar groups and to study the structure of data variability. The conducted analyses revealed that the use of nanoparticles resulted in decreased size of the produced seeds and improved antioxidative properties of rapeseed oil
Comparative Analysis of Phytochemicals and Antioxidant Properties of Borage Oil (<i>Borago officinalis</i> L.) and Milk Thistle (<i>Silybum marianum</i> Gaertn)
There is currently a growing interest in oils characterised by specific medicinal, cosmetic, or dietary properties. For this reason, the seeds of two plants, milk thistle (Silybum marianum Gaertn) and borage (Borago officinalis L.), were studied by subjecting them to the process of cold pressing. The extracted oils were then examined in terms of their chemical composition and biological activity, and qualitatively analysed with the use of FTIR spectroscopy. The oils contained linoleic and octadecenoic acids in amounts of 47.84%, 35.31% (milk thistle oil) and 35.43%, 25.18% (borage oil). They were characterised by low water content, roughly 0.088% for thistle and 0.075% for borage, and simultaneously relatively high phosphorus content, reaching, respectively, 47.7 and 33.1 mg·kg−1. The mean peroxide value was 4.22 for milk thistle and 2.83 mmolO2·kg−1 for borage, and the acid number was 5.17 and 3.9 mgKOH·g−1, respectively. FTIR spectroscopy was used to conduct a qualitative analysis, which revealed slight discrepancies in intensity at 3005 cm−1, which confirmed differences in the content of fatty acids and oil pigments between the oils. The obtained results provided information on the applicability of the studied seeds and oils obtained therefrom as basic components of pharmaceutical and cosmetic products with potential health benefits
The Use of Ultrasound in Shaping the Properties of Ice Cream with Oleogel Based on Oil Extracted from Tomato Seeds
In this study, the possibility of using ultrasound technology as an alternative to traditional pasteurization and homogenization in ice cream production was presented. Three types of ice cream with different proportions of oleogel (5, 6, and 7%) prepared using tomato seed oil were studied. The fatty acid contents of the oil were analyzed. Using chemical analysis, dry matter, fat, protein, dietary fiber, ash, and pH of the ice cream samples were determined. The physical analysis included analysis of the ice cream samples using a differential scanning calorimeter (DSC) and determination of their first drop time, complete melting time, overrun, viscosity, hardness, and adhesiveness. The structure of the samples was evaluated using scanning electron microscopy. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy spectra were measured using a dedicated QATR-S Single-Reflection ATR ACCESSORY with a diamond prism. With the increase in the proportion of oleogels, the fat and carbohydrate contents, the amount of freezable water, and the overrun of the samples were increased, whereas their viscosity and hardness were decreased. Oleogels were found to be a promising alternative to fat in ice cream rich in unsaturated fatty acids, and the ice cream samples prepared using ultrasound pasteurization showed lower overrun and viscosity and higher hardness
Design, Spectroscopy, and Assessment of Cholinesterase Inhibition and Antimicrobial Activities of Novel Coumarin–Thiadiazole Hybrids
A novel series of coumarin–thiadiazole hybrids, derived from substituted coumarin-3-carboxylic acids was isolated and fully characterized with the use of a number of spectroscopic techniques and XRD crystallography. Several of the novel compounds showed intensive fluorescence in the visible region, comparable to that of known coumarin-based fluorescence standards. Moreover, the new compounds were tested as potential antineurodegenerative agents via their ability to act as acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE) inhibitors. Compared to the commercial standards, only a few compounds demonstrated moderate AChE and BuChE activities. Moreover, the novel derivatives were tested for their antimicrobial activity against a panel of pathogenic bacterial and fungal species. Their lack of activity and toxicity across a broad range of biochemical assays, together with the exceptional emission of some hybrid molecules, highlights the possible use of a number of the novel hybrids as potential fluorescence standards or fluorescence imaging agents
Spectroscopic characterization and assessment of microbiological potential of 1,3,4-thiadiazole derivative showing ESIPT dual fluorescence enhanced by aggregation effects
In the presented study, advanced experimental techniques, including electronic absorption and fluorescence spectroscopies [with Resonance Light Scattering (RLS)], measurements of fluorescence lifetimes in the frequency domain, calculations of dipole moment fluctuations, quantum yields, and radiative and non-radiative transfer constants, were used to characterize a selected analogue from the group of 1,3,4-thiadiazole, namely: 4-[5-(naphthalen-1-ylmethyl)-1,3,4-thiadiazol-2-yl]benzene-1,3-diol (NTBD), intrinsically capable to demonstrate enol → keto excited-states intramolecular proton transfer (ESIPT) effects. The results of spectroscopic analyses conducted in solvent media as well as selected mixtures were complemented by considering biological properties of the derivative in question, particularly in terms of its potential microbiological activity. The compound demonstrated a dual fluorescence effect in non-polar solvents, e.g. chloroform and DMSO/H(2)O mixtures, while in polar solvents only a single emission maximum was detected. In the studied systems, ESIPT effects were indeed observed, as was the associated phenomenon of dual fluorescence, and, as demonstrated for the DMSO: H(2)O mixtures, the same could be relatively easily induced by aggregation effects related to aggregation-induced emission (AIE). Subsequently conducted quantum-chemical (TD-)DFT calculations supported further possibility of ESIPT effects. The following article provides a comprehensive description of the spectroscopic and biological properties of the analyzed 1,3,4-thiadiazole derivatives, highlighting its potential applicability as a very good fluorescence probes as well as a compound capable of high microbiological activity
