On Keller's conjecture in dimension seven

A cube tiling of $\mathbb{R}^d$ is a family of pairwise disjoint cubes $[0,1)^d+T=\{[0,1)^d+t:t\in T\}$ such that $\bigcup_{t\in T}([0,1)^d+t)=\mathbb{R}^d$. Two cubes $[0,1)^d+t$, $[0,1)^d+s$ are called a twin pair if $|t_j-s_j|=1$ for some $j\in [d]=\{1,\ldots, d\}$ and $t_i=s_i$ for every $i\in [d]\setminus \{j\}$. In $1930$, Keller conjectured that in every cube tiling of $\mathbb{R}^d$ there is a twin pair. Keller's conjecture is true for dimensions $d\leq 6$ and false for all dimensions $d\geq 8$. For $d=7$ the conjecture is still open. Let $x\in \mathbb{R}^d$, $i\in [d]$, and let $L(T,x,i)$ be the set of all $i$th coordinates $t_i$ of vectors $t\in T$ such that $([0,1)^d+t)\cap ([0,1]^d+x)\neq \emptyset$ and $t_i\leq x_i$. It is known that if $|L(T,x,i)|\leq 2$ for some $x\in \mathbb{R}^7$ and every $i\in [7]$ or $|L(T,x,i)|\geq 6$ for some $x\in \mathbb{R}^7$ and $i\in [7]$, then Keller's conjecture is true for $d=7$. In the present paper we show that it is also true for $d=7$ if $|L(T,x,i)|=5$ for some $x\in \mathbb{R}^7$ and $i\in [7]$. Thus, if there is a counterexample to Keller's conjecture in dimension seven, then $|L(T,x,i)|\in \{3,4\}$ for some $x\in \mathbb{R}^7$ and $i\in [7]$.Comment: 37 pages, 7 figures. arXiv admin note: substantial text overlap with arXiv:1304.163

The problem of loyalty of academic teachers is complex and multifaceted. One of the manifestations of loyalty towards the employer are restrictions on additional employment. The study indicates many problems related to the additional employment of academic teachers. Doubts arouse the legitimacy of introducing restrictions on the additional employment of academic teachers in the light of Article 3 of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland, and compliance of the regulation with Article 32 of the Constitution regarding the principle of equality, as well as with Article 65 Item 1 of the Constitution of the Republic of Poland, which guarantees freedom of choice and performance of the profession and selection of a place of work.Problem lojalności nauczycieli akademickich jest złożony i wielowymiarowy. Jednym z przejawów lojalności wobec pracodawcy są ograniczenia dodatkowego zatrudnienia. Opracowanie wskazuje na wiele problemów związanych z dodatkowym zatrudnieniem nauczycieli akademickich. Current Problems in the Field of Sickness Insurance for People Running a Non-Agricultural Business

The assessment of the limits of the freedom to declare the basis for calculating the contribution for sickness insurance by the insured (entrepreneur) constantly raises legal doubts. The social security authority verify, often successfully, the correctness and reliability of the declared contribution even if the insured declares the basis within the limits provided for by law. The action of the authority reduces the basis for declared contributions and, as a result, affects the amount of benefits.Doubts regarding the assessment of the possibility of veryfing the declared basis for contributions revolve around the assessment of whether in this respect we are dealing with a legal gap in social security law or with a comprehensive regulation of the autonomous social security law.In the context of the analyzed issue, it is crucial to establish the relationship between social security law and civil law and to indicate the grounds for separating social security law as an autonomous branch of law.Ocena granic swobody deklarowania podstawy wymiaru składki na ubezpieczenie chorobowe przez osoby prowadzące pozarolniczą działalność gospodarczą stale budzi wątpliwości natury prawnej. Organ ubezpieczeń społecznych kwestionuje, nierzadko z powodzeniem, prawidłowość i rzetelność zadeklarowanej kwoty, nawet jeśli prowadzący pozarolniczą działalność deklaruje podstawę w granicach przewidzianych ustawą. Działanie organu rentowego powoduje obniżenie wysokości podstawy wymiaru składek, a w efekcie wpływa na wysokość świadczeń. Computer science education : a way of exploring and describing the world

W artykule opisano cele oraz rezultaty dwóch projektów edukacyjnych realizowanych przez Warszawską Wyższą Szkołę Informatyki. Szczególne miejsce zostało poświęcone innowacyjnym programom nauczania oraz metodom kształcenia odwołującym się do interdyscyplinarnego postrzegania nauki. Dziedziny objęte projektami to: informatyka oraz przedmioty matematyczne i przyrodnicze. Przedsięwzięcia przedstawiono w kontekście działań Ministerstwa Edukacji Narodowej na rzecz poprawy jakości edukacji realizowanych w ramach Priorytetu III Programu Operacyjnego Kapitał Ludzki.The article describes the objectives and the results of two educational projects implemented by Warsaw School of Computer Science. A special place was devoted to innovative educational programs as well as teaching methods related to interdisciplinary perception of science. The projects encompassed the following branches of science: computer science, mathematics and natural sciences. The project activities were undertaken under Priority III of the Operational Programme Human Capital for improving the quality of education initiated by the Ministry of National Education

Human in the camp's reality and his hierarchy of values

Niniejsza praca stanowi próbę ukazania i analizy wartości w życiu człowieka złagrowanego. Za cel stawiam sobie także zbadanie zróżnicowanych postaw ludzkich we wspomnianej sytuacji granicznej. We Wstępie przedstawiłam zaproponowane przez badaczy definicje słowa ,,wartość”, w odniesieniu do omawianego przeze mnie problemu. Przedstawiłam także sposób realizacji owych wartości w rzeczywistości obozowej. W pierwszym rozdziale nakreśliłam zarys historyczny, a więc wspomniałam o sytuacji historycznej, społecznej i politycznej w ówczesnej Rosji, opisałam także historię i proces powstania łagrów sowieckich. Rozdział drugi poświęcony jest jednej z najważniejszych wartości w życiu każdego człowieka – rodzinie. Rozdział trzeci dotyczy relacji międzyludzkich, a więc przyjaźni i miłości. Skupiłam się w nim przede wszystkim na relacjach, jakie łączyły więźniów, omówię stosunki panujące w łagrze i sposoby postrzegania drugiego człowieka. W Zakończeniu postaram się odnieść problem hierarchii wartości w obozie do współczesności i wykazać, że doświadczenia dwudziestowiecznych totalitaryzmów powinny być dla potomnych przestrogą.In the thesis I have presented and analysed the values of man who lived in the Gulag. I have also examined the various people’s attitudes towards the situation mentioned above. In the Introduction there are presented different definitions of the word “value” created by scholars, in the context of the problem under discussion, and the way of execution of these values in the prison camp labour camp. In the first chapter of my thesis I have outlined historical, social, and political situation in Russia of that time as well as I have described the history and process of formation of the Gulag. The second chapter concerns one of the most important value of man – a family, whereas the third one deals with interpersonal relations such as love and friendship. I have focused on relations which existed in the Gulag and put prisoners through, as well as the ways of perception of man by other man. In the Conclusion I have made attempt to relate the problem of a hierarchy of values in the camp to the present day, and proved that the totalitarianism of twentieth-century should be a warning for posterity

The Niementowski reaction

The Niementowski reaction depends on the fusion of anthranilic acid with carbonyl compounds or amides and dates back to the end of the nineteenth century. Numerous variations of the reaction components and modifications of the reaction conditions have appeared in the literature through years. Besides anthranilic acid other synthons including: methyl o-aminobenzoate [25], o-nitrobenzoic acid [26], o-acylaminobenzamide [21], o-aminobenzamide [27], o-aminobenzonitrile [28], isatoic anhydride [29], benzoxasinone [30, 31] have been employed as well. Replacement of the amide component with either amine [9, 32], nitrile [33], imidate [34], thioamide [35], amidine [36], aldehyde [37] or carboxylic acid [28] have also been reported. To increase yield and to reduce the reaction time a number of variables in reaction conditions have been investigated. The best results have been achieved by implementation of a microwave irradiation [38]. The Niementowski reaction and its variants have found widespread use in pharmaceutical and agrochemical fields for the synthesis of compounds containing quinoline and quinazoline systems which are present in a number of natural and synthetic alkaloids [12, 13] and many drugs [1–5]

PSAW parameters conditioned by multilayer structure of acoustic device on 41°YX LiNbO3

Przedstawiono rozwiązanie konstrukcyjne podzespołu z akustyczną falą pseudopo-wierzchniową (AFPP) na 41°YX LiNbO3, które może być wykorzystane w analizie fazy ciekłej. W powyższej fali obecne są trzy składowe wektora przemieszczeń cząstek, dominującąjest składowa poprzeczna, równoległa do kierunku propagacji fali. Omówiono wyniki obliczeń i eksperymentów dotyczących wpływu wielowarstwowego obciążania powierzchni struktury czujnikowej i wzajemnej konfiguracji warstw {podłoże piezoelektryczne - warstwa metaliczna (Al.) - falowodowa i zabezpieczająca warstwa (SiO2)} na wzajemną relację składowych ruchu cząstek i charakterystykę AFPP. Uzyskane rezultaty wykazały, że opisana wyżej i powszechnie stosowana w czujnikach akustycznych konfiguracja warstw nie spełnia wymagań aplikacyjnych w przypadku niobianu litu oraz potwierdziły słuszność rozwiązania w którym zastosowano odwróconą konfigurację warstw: LiNbO3 - SiO2 - Al.The device with pseudo surface acoustic wave (PSAW) on 41°YX LiNb03 for liquid phase detection is presented in this article. This wave has all three components of the particle displacement, however shear-horizontal component is dominant. Theoretical calculations and experimental results considering of the influence of layers configuration (piezoelectric substrate, metal - Al, guiding and protecting layer - Si02) on the relations between the particle displacement components and on characteristics of PSAW propagating are discussed. These results revealed that above commonly used layers configurations in acoustic liquid sensors do not comply with application requirements in the case of LiNbO3 and confirm the Tightness of solution in which the different layers sequence: LiNbO3-SiO2-Al was used
