    A drift-diffusion model for robotic obstacle avoidance

    We develop a stochastic framework for modeling and analysis of robot navigation in the presence of obstacles. We show that, with appropriate assumptions, the probability of a robot avoiding a given obstacle can be reduced to a function of a single dimensionless parameter which captures all relevant quantities of the problem. This parameter is analogous to the Peclet number considered in the literature on mass transport in advection-diffusion fluid flows. Using the framework we also compute statistics of the time required to escape an obstacle in an informative case. The results of the computation show that adding noise to the navigation strategy can improve performance. Finally, we present experimental results that illustrate these performance improvements on a robotic platform. For more information: Kod*La

    Dynamical Trajectory Replanning for Uncertain Environments

    We propose a dynamical reference generator equipped with an augmented transient “replanning” subsystem that modulates a feedback controller’s efforts to force a mechanical plant to track the reference signal. The replanner alters the reference generator’s output in the face of unanticipated disturbances that drive up the tracking error. We demonstrate that the new reference generator cannot destabilize the tracker, that tracking errors converge in the absence of disturbance, and that the overall coupled reference-tracker system cannot be destabilized by disturbances of bounded energy. We report the results of simulation studies exploring the performance of this new design applied to a two dimensional point mass particle interacting with fixed but unknown terrain obstacles. Here, gene [metallothionein 2 (mt2)] expression changes in larval zebrafish were used to evaluate the association between aqueous Hg2+ and TiO2 (NPs and bulk particle size control) to investigate the relationship between changes in Hg2+ behavior and TiO2 size. During 24 h exposures, TiO2 agglomerates increased in size and in the presence of 25 mu g Hg-2+/L, greater increases in size were observed. the concentration of Hg2+ in suspension also decreased in the presence of TiO2-NPs. Mercury increased expression of mt2 in larval zebrafish, but this response was lessened when zebrafish were exposed to Hg2+ in the presence of TiO2-NPs, and which suggests that TiO2-NPs alter the bioavailability of Hg2+ to zebrafish larvae. This ameliorative effect of TiO2 was also likely due to surface binding of Hg2+ because a greater decrease in mt2 expression was observed in the presence of 1 mg/L TiO2-NPs than 1 mg/L TiO2-bulk. in conclusion, the results show that Hg2+ will associate with TiO2-NPs, TiO2-NPs that have associated Hg2+ will settle out of the aqueous phase more rapidly, and agglomerates will deliver associated Hg2+ to sediment surfaces.     In this study germination requirements, plant-soil interactions and population biology of Centaurea kilaea was studied. The plant and soil samples were collected from Sofular Village (Sile District) and shore of Çatalca District (Istanbul) in Turkey by using standard methods. Methods like Scheibler, Wetdigestion, Kjeldahl and Olsen were employed for measurement of soil texture, structure and other physical and chemical characteristics (pH, total protein and electrical conductivity) using spectrophotometer, flame photometer, calcimeter and ICP. The results showed that ranges of different elements in the soil were 0.007-0.2% for N, 0.0007-0.001% for P, 0.001-0.01% for K, 0.0001-0.0002 % for Na. N, P, K and Na values in the plants were 2.17, 0.005, 0.1 and 0.006%, respectively. The data revealed that germination success of the seeds was influenced by the environmental factors such as pH, germination season and temperature.Dalam kajian ini keperluan percambahan, saling tindakan tumbuhan-tanih dan biologi populasi Centaurea kilaea telah dilakukan. Sampel tumbuhan dan tanih telah dikumpul dari Kampung Sofular (Daerah Şile) dan pantai Daerah Çatalca (Istanbul) di Turki dengan menggunakan kaedah piawai. Kaedah seperti Scheibler, Wetdigestion, Kjeldahl dan Olsen telah digunakan bagi pengukuran tekstur tanih, struktur dan sifat fizikal dan kimia lain (pH, jumlah protein dan kekonduksian elektrik) menggunakan spektrofotometer, fotometer api, kalsimeter dan ICP. Hasil menunjukkan bahawa julat unsur berbeza dalam tanih ialah 0.007-0.2% bagi N, 0.0007-0.001% bagi P, 0.001-0.01% bagi K, 0.0001-0.0002% bagi Na. N, P, K dan nilai Na dalam tumbuhan ialah masing-masing 2.17, 0.005, 0.1 dan 0.006%.     Impact of extended sinus surgery on allograft infection, allograft function and overall survival in cystic fibrosis lung transplant recipients

    BACKGROUND Studies investigating the impact of sinus surgery for cystic fibrosis (CF) patients performed early after lung transplantation (Ltx) are scarce. Recent studies evaluating frequency of respiratory infections and graft outcomes are not available. OBJECTIVES/HYPOTHESIS To determine whether there is a difference in allograft infection, allograft function and overall survival among CF lung transplant recipients with and without concomitant sinus surgery. STUDY DESIGN Retrospective single-center study. METHODS We examined 71 CF patients who underwent Ltx between 2009 and 2019 at our center. Fifty-nine patients had sinus surgery before or/and after transplantation and twelve did not undergo sinus surgery. We assessed the survival, the diagnosis of chronic allograft dysfunction (CLAD) and all elevated (> 5 mg/l) c-reactive protein episodes during the observed period. The infectious events of the upper and lower airways were categorized in mild infections (5-15 mg/l CRP) and severe infections (> 15 mg/l CRP). RESULTS There was no difference in the long-time overall survival (p = 0.87) and no benefit in the short-term survival at 4 year post-transplant (p = 0.29) in both groups. There was no difference in both groups concerning CLAD diagnosis (p = 0.92). The incidence of severe upper and lower airway infections (CRP > 15 mg/l) was significantly decreased in the sinus surgery group (p = 0.015), whereas in mild infections there was a trend to decreased infections in the sinus surgery group (p = 0.056). CONCLUSIONS CF patients undergoing Ltx benefit from extended endoscopic sinus surgery (eESS) in terms of frequency of severe infectious events of the upper and lower airways. There was no difference in overall survival and frequency of CLAD in the two groups

The aerogels are cross-linked via organic polymer chains that are attached to and extend from surface-bound functional groups provided or present over the internal surfaces of a mesoporous ceramic oxide particle network via appropriate chemical reactions. The functional groups can be hydroxyl groups, which are native to ceramic oxides, or they can be non-hydroxyl functional groups that can be decorated over the internal surfaces of the ceramic oxide network.
