    The Hadronic Forward (HF) calorimeter improves the jet detection and the missing transverse energy resolution of the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS). In HF, the Photo Multiplier Tubes (PMTs) convert optical signals (i.e., Čerenkov light) to electrical signals. For monitoring the PMT gains, LED signals are extensively used. LED data collected throughout 2009 were thoroughly studied in this thesis. The focus was analyzing the stability of the LED system over time by graphical means. Also, by plotting the average charge versus position, it was possible to identify problematic channels

    A pilot study of reliability and validity of Turkish version of West Haven-Yale Multidimensional Pain Inventory in patients with low back pain

    Background: West Haven-Yale Multidimensional Pain Inventory (WHYMPI), used in the evaluation of patients with chronic pain including behavioral and cognitive assessment, is a multidimensional pain scale consisting of three main sections and 12 subscales. The validity of this inventory has been supported by various study results of confirmatory and exploratory factor analytic procedures. The aim of our present study was to investigate the validity and reliability of the Turkish form of the West Haven-Yale Multidimensional Pain Inventory (WHYMPI-T).Methodology: 41 patients, with a minimum 3 mon history for chronic non-specific low back pain, without previous surgical history, neurological and rheumatic diseases, and without communication problem; completed Brief Pain Inventory (BPI), McGill Pain Questionnaire (MPQ), Beck Depression Inventory (BDI) and the Short Form-36 (SF-36) scales. The measurements were repeated in fifth days.Results: Significant difference between WHYMPI-T lower and upper group averages was found. Internal consistency analysis of the scale, Cronbach's a coefficient ranged from 0.93 to 0.99 for B and C sections. All the items of A, B and C sections were found compatible with each other in the item analyses and scale test-retest results were congruent with each other. Between WHYMPI-T subscales and BPI, MPQ, BDI, SF-36 scales, a positive correlation was observed.Conclusion: The results of our study confirm that WHYMPI-T is a valid and reliable instrument which can be used for the evaluation of chronic non-specific low back pain

    AIDS (Acquired Immune Deficiency Syndrome) is a worldwide disease affecting more than 40 million people. Despite the common use of HAART (Highly Active Antiretroviral Treatment), ocular involvement still occurs in %50-75 of AIDS patients. CMV retinitis is the most common opportunistic ocular infection in patients with AIDS. Since 15% of CMV retinitis patients may be asymptomatic, fundoscopic examination is recommended in patients with less than 50 cells/μl CD4+ lymphocytes for routine screening every 3 months.     Posterior scleritis is scleral inflammation beyond the equator. The most common presenting signs are pain and visual loss in any age group. These nonspecific complaints and a wide spectrum of clinic features may cause difficulties in diagnosis. Posterior scleritis is often idiopathic but can also be related to systemic diseases. In this report, three posterior scleritis cases diagnosed with fundus fluorescein angiography, optic coherence tomography and magnetic resonance imaging techniques are analyzed. Furthermore, the diagnostic and therapeutic approach to posterior scleritis is discussed

    An in silico approach to the identification of diagnostic and prognostic markers in low-grade gliomas

    Low-grade gliomas (LGG) are central nervous system Grade I tumors, and as they progress they are becoming one of the deadliest brain tumors. There is still great need for timely and accurate diagnosis and prognosis of LGG. Herein, we aimed to identify diagnostic and prognostic biomarkers associated with LGG, by employing diverse computational approaches. For this purpose, differential gene expression analysis on high-throughput transcriptomics data of LGG versus corresponding healthy brain tissue, derived from TCGA and GTEx, respectively, was performed. Weighted gene co-expression network analysis of the detected differentially expressed genes was carried out in order to identify modules of co-expressed genes significantly correlated with LGG clinical traits. The genes comprising these modules were further used to construct gene co-expression and protein-protein interaction networks. Based on the network analyses, we derived a consensus of eighteen hub genes, namely, CD74, CD86, CDC25A, CYBB, HLA-DMA, ITGB2, KIF11, KIFC1, LAPTM5, LMNB1, MKI67, NCKAP1L, NUSAP1, SLC7A7, TBXAS1, TOP2A, TYROBP, and WDFY4. All detected hub genes were up-regulated in LGG, and were also associated with unfavorable prognosis in LGG patients. The findings of this study could be applicable in the clinical setting for diagnosing and monitoring LGG
