Whatever its aim is, spatial organization, which can be denoted as the attainment of buildings through organization in terms of both physical and habitable environment, should primarily respond to man and his needs. This is valid for library buildings as well. Especially in a period where the demand for libraries is at very low levels in our country, despite the popularity of the concept of information age, it is important to create library buildings to attract people both with their interior and exterior spaces, that suit to their users and staff, and that offer mediums directed to increase happiness and productivity, is important and inevitable as much as other factors. In this sense, librarians, whose job is basically to organize and present information to society and to individuals to be used in both performing and developing their particular roles in the society, should be equipped with the necessary information for spatial organization of their own habitat and should assume their undeniable role within this process as soon as possible.

Objective:This study aimed to compare the effects of passive self-ligating (PSL) and conventional ligating (CL) of brackets on the buccolingual inclination (BLINC) of the maxillary premolars. Methods:This in vitro study included a PSL bracket group and a CL bracket group. Acrylic teeth on typodonts were aligned using 0.014-inch heat-activated nickel titanium (HANT) (T1) and 0.019×0.025-inch HANT (T2) and 0.021×0.025-inch stainless steel (SS) (T3) archwires in a sequence. Standardized cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) images were taken immediately after each archwire stage. The differences of premolar teeth BLINC values in the 0.019×0.025-inch and 0.014-inch HANT archwires (T2-T1) and 0.021×0.025-inch SS and 0.019×0.025-inch HANT archwires (T3-T2) were compared between PSL and CL groups. The value of p < 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results:The BLINC change of the second premolar (SPM) showed a statistically significant difference (p=0.008), but the BLINC change of the first premolar (FPM) (p=0.056) between the groups showed no statistically significant difference during the T2- T1 stage. However, there were statistically significant differences between two groups in the BLINC of the FPM (p=0.032) and SPM (p=0.032) in the T3-T2 stage. The angular changes in the buccal direction in the PSL group were higher than those in the CL group. Conclusion:The PSL upper premolar brackets used with the 0.021×0.025-inch SS archwire produced more buccal crown movement of the upper PM teeth compared with that of the CL brackets

Background: Echinococcosis is a near-cosmopolitan zoonosis caused by adult or larval stages of tapeworms (cestodes) into the genus Echinococcus (family Taeniidae). It was demonstrated that platelets were capable of killing parasites independent from leukocytes. Purpose: The aim of our study was to examine mean platelet volume (MPV), platelet mass (PM) and platelet count (PC), which are practical indicators of platelet activity in preoperative and postoperative periods of the patients with hydatid cyst. Methods: In this retrospective study we evaluated 72 patients admitted to clinic of chest surgery with a diagnosis of pulmonary hydatid cyst in our hospital between January, 2006, and October, 2008. The MPV, PC, and PM were evaluated by complete blood count. PM was calculated by multiplying MPV and PLT. Results: Preoperative MPV values (mean: 8.07, std. dev.: 0.83) of the patients was found to be significantly higher than postoperative MPV values (mean: 7.78, std. dev.: 0.87) (p= 0,002). Preoperative PM values (median: 2456.75, min-max: 1013.70-5046.60) was found to be higher when compared to postoperative PM values (median: 2280.80, min-max: 134.20-4042.60) (p= 0,039). PC values were not significantly different between two periods (Preoperative PC mean values: 320.48, std. dev.: 98.42 and postoperative PC mean values: 307.29, std. dev.: 96.45, p= 0.286). Conclusion: In this study, we demonstrated that there were no statistical difference in PC for both periods but, in preoperative period MPV and PM were found statistical higher than postoperative period. We suggest that MPV and PM may be considered as inflammatory markers for hydatid cyst. MPV and PM can be used for following of patients with hydatid cyst

INTRODUCTION: The aim of this study was to describe the clinical characteristics, visual outcomes of pediatric patients presenting with first-episode of optic neuritis. METHODS: We reviewed medical records of the patients newly diagnosed with optic neuritis younger than 18 years between January 2014 and December 2018 retrospectively. RESULTS: Twenty-eight patients were included to this study. The mean age at first onset of optic neuritis was 13.2+-3.1 years (range 6.2-17.3 years). The mean follow-up period was 4.2+-3.2 (range 0.6-13.08) years. 7 of 28 (25%) patients had recurrent optic neuritis. Optic neuritis involvement was unilateral in 17 of 28 (60%) patients. Forty percent of the patients had idiopathic optic neuritis. Of the six patients with demyelinating lesions in cranial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) at the first admission, three were diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) at the time of first optic neuritis attack, and three were diagnosed within 13.4+-4.8 months after the first episode. Eight of 21 optic neuritis patients (38%) had oligoclonal band positivity and the incidence of MS was significantly higher in these patients (p=0.014). The mean visual acuity at nadir was 0.48+-0.27 at admission. Whereas it was 0.74+-0.31 and 0.76+-0.33 at 1 and 6 months respectively. There was a strong correlation between first and sixth-month visual acuity (r=0.98, p=0.00). DISCUSSION AND CONCLUSION: Our study demonstrated that poor visual acuity (worse than 0.5) at 1 month can predict poor vision at 6 months. The patients with demyelinating lesions in cranial MRI at their first optic neuritis episode, are more likely to develop MS during the follow-up

    Get PDF
Introduction: The BIOFIRE Joint Infection (JI) Panel is a diagnostic tool that uses multiplex-PCR testing to detect microorganisms in synovial fluid specimens from patients suspected of having septic arthritis (SA) on native joints or prosthetic joint infections (PJIs). Methods: A study was conducted across 34 clinical sites in 19 European and Middle Eastern countries from March 2021 to June 2022 to assess the effectiveness of the BIOFIRE JI Panel. Results: A total of 1527 samples were collected from patients suspected of SA or PJI, with an overall agreement of 88.4 % and 85 % respectively between the JI Panel and synovial fluid cultures (SFCs). The JI Panel detected more positive samples and microorganisms than SFC, with a notable difference on Staphylococcus aureus, Streptococcus species, Enterococcus faecalis, Kingella kingae, Neisseria gonorrhoeae, and anaerobic bacteria. The study found that the BIOFIRE JI Panel has a high utility in the real-world clinical setting for suspected SA and PJI, providing diagnostic results in approximately 1 h. The user experience was positive, implying a potential benefit of rapidity of results' turnover in optimising patient management strategies. Conclusion: The study suggests that the BIOFIRE JI Panel could potentially optimise patient management and antimicrobial therapy, thus highlighting its importance in the clinical setting

The research population are consist of teachers from secondary schools in the state, education students studying in these schools and the parents of these students in the central districts of Adana ( Seyhan, Çukurova, Yüreğir, Sarıçam). Research data are collected in a process took place in two stages. Firstly, 'random cluster sampling' was made in accordance with 'neutrality principle' and 30 schools are determined through chosen 10 for each from respect to lower, middle and upper socio-economic status backgrounds. 310 teachers and 508 students, participated this stage based on voluntariness and data were obtained by applying 'Discipline Problems Assessment Questionnaire (DPAQ). For determining the teachers, students and parents working group for interview in second stage, purposive sampling, accessible sampling and maximum variation sampling of non-probability-based sampling techniques, took place in the tradition of qualitative research, was followed and interview was done with 15 teachers, 15 students and 15 parents by based on voluntariness. As a result of the research, the students behavior for disciplinary problems of consensus idea of the teachers are; making a noise, disrespect to friends, damage to materials, take care of other things during the course, constant talking about matters unrelated to course, talking without permission and disturb the friends. The primary behaviors regarded as disciplinary problems of students are disrespect to friends, making a noise, damage to materials, robbery, slander, confiscate the belongings of others by force, throw something to teacher desk, dirty up the class and disturb the friends...Bu araştırma, ilköğretim okullarının ikinci kademesinde (6.,7. ve 8. sınıflarda) gözlenen disiplin problemleri ve baş etmede kullanılan stratejiler ile ilgili öğretmen, öğrenci ve velilerin görüşlerini belirlemeye yönelik nicel ve nitel yöntemlerin birlikte kullanıldığı tarama modelinde betimsel bir çalışmadır.
