    Gould Belt Members in X-ray RAVE: Cross-Matching RAVE Stars with 3XMM Point Sources

    In this paper the results of matching the RAdial Velocity Experiment (RAVE), a spectroscopic Southern hemisphere survey (9 <IDENIS< < I_{DENIS} < 12), and XMM-Newton Serendipitous Source Catalogue (3XMM) are presented. The latest data releases of RAVE and XMM were matched and a X-ray RAVE catalogue of 1071 stars was obtained. Then the catalogue was checked for possible Gould Belt (GB) members. We obtained a subsample of 10 stars that meet the GB membership criteria. This subsample and GB member candidates were tested photometrically and kinematically. Among the members there are two BY Dra type variables, an NGC2451 open cluster member, a high proper motion star. The rest are regular main sequence stars. The members have very low velocity dispersions which lead us to think that the members belong in a single structure. We also found out that a kinematical GB membership test might be possible to derive given a large enough GB member sample as they fit in a narrow interval in space velocity diagrams.Comment: Accepted by Astrophysics and Space Scienc

    First Order Phase Transition in the 3-dimensional Blume-Capel Model on a Cellular Automaton

    The first order phase transition of the three-dimensional Blume Capel are investigated using cooling algorithm which improved from Creutz Cellular Automaton for the D/J=2.9D/J=2.9 parameter value in the first order phase transition region. The analysis of the data using the finite-size effect and the histogram technique indicate that the magnetic susceptibility maxima and the specific heat maxima increase with the system volume (LdL^{d}) at % D/J=2.9.Comment: 13 pages, 4 figure

    Determination of nutritive value of citrus tree leaves for sheep using in vitro gas production technique

    The nutritive values of leaves of Citrus grandis, Citrus aurantium, Citrus oranges, Citrus limon, and Citrus deliciosa were evaluated by chemical composition and in vitro gas production techniques. There were significant (p < 0.001) differences among citrus species in terms of chemical composition. Crude protein (CP) contents ranged from 123.0 to 148.3 g/kg DM. Neutral detergent fibre (NDF) and acid detergent fibre (ADF) contents were varied with species in the range 219.4-355.4 and 215.0-278.8 g/kg DM respectively. Condensed tannin (CT) contents were ranged from 5.9 to 10.2 g/kg DM. The PEG addition significantly (p < 0.001) increased the gas production and some estimated parameters of citrus tree leaves. However, species showed variable responses to polyethylene glycol (PEG) treatment. There were also significant (p < 0.001) differences among species in terms of gas production and estimated parameters. The OMD and ME contents of citrus leaves without PEG supplementation were ranged from 66.5 to 73.3% and 9.8 to 10.9 MJ/kg DM respectively. The improvement in gas production, organic matter digestibility (OMD) and metabolizable energy (ME) with PEG emphasized the negative effect of tannins on digestibility. The increase (%) in the estimated OMD and ME contents ranged from 5.5 to 9.8% and 5.7 to 10.2% respectively. All citrus tree leaves studied in this experiment have potential nutritive values indicated by high crude protein content, OMD, ME and low fiber values

    Origin of lyotropic liquid crystalline mesophase formation and liquid crystalline to mesostructured solid transformation in the metal nitrate salt-surfactant systems

    The zinc nitrate salt acts as a solvent in the ZnX-C12EO 10 (ZnX is [Zn(H2O)6](NO3) 2 and C12EO10 is C12H 25(OCH2CH2)10OH) lyotropic liquid crystalline (LLC) mesophase with a drastic dropping on the melting point of ZnX. The salt-surfactant LLC mesophase is stable down to -52 °C and undergoes a phase change into a solid mesostructured salt upon cooling below -52 °C; no phase separation is observed down to -190 °C. The ZnX-C12EO 10 mesophase displays a usual phase behavior with an increasing concentration of the solvent (ZnX) in the media with an order of bicontinuous cubic(V1)-2D hexagonal(H1) - a mixture of 2D hexagonal and micelle cubic(H1 + I)-micelle cubic(I)-micelle(L1) phases. The phase behaviors, specifically at low temperatures, and the first phase diagram of the ZnX-C12EO10 system was investigated using polarized optical microscopy (POM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), differential scanning calorimetry (DSC), Fourier transform infrared (FTIR), and Raman techniques and conductivity measurements. © 2010 American Chemical Society

    Rare hemoglobin variant Hb Yaizu observed in Turkey

    Objective: To determine the characteristic features of the rare hemoglobin (Hb) variant Hb Yaizu to enable laboratory diagnosis of the hemoglobin variants during screening programs. Materials and Methods: Genomic DNA was obtained from the 4 members of a family living in Denizli province, an Aegean region of Turkey. Blood cell counts, hemoglobin composition, hemoglobin electrophoresis (both alkaline and acid), HPLC analysis, DNA sequencing and beta globin gene cluster haplotypes were done. Results: Hb Yaizu carriers were apparently healthy individuals. Hb Yaizu was slightly faster than Hb S at alkaline pH, but slower than Hb S at acidic pH in hemoglobin electrophoresis. An abnormal hemoglobin peak was observed with a retention time of 4.77 min in HPLC analysis attributed to Hb Yaizu. Two members of the family were heterozygous Hb Yaizu [beta 79(EF3) Asp>Asn] confirmed by DNA sequencing. The mutation was found to be linked with the Mediterranean haplotype I [+ - - ++]. Conclusion: We have presented the details of Hb Yaizu, a rare hemoglobin variant that may be important to hemoglobinopathy screening programs, although its clinical significance is unclear.     Effects of Clarification and Storage on Anthocyanins and Color of Pomegranate Juice Concentrates

    Whole pomegranates with rinds were processed into juice and then concentrate. Effects of cold clarification and storage temperatures (-23C, 5C, 12C and 20C) on anthocyanins (ACNs), ACN composition and color were determined. Major ACNs in pomegranate juice concentrate (PJC) were identified as cyanidin-3,5-diglucoside (47.9%), delphinidin-3,5-diglucoside (23.2%) and cyanidin-3-glucoside (18.5%). Diglucosides were more stable than monoglucosides during storage. ACN degradation and polymeric color formation were fitted to first-order reaction models. Higher storage temperatures increased the rate of ACN degradation and polymeric color formation in PJCs. Good correlation (r=-0.988) was found between ACN degradation and polymeric color formation during storage. Rate of ACN degradation and polymeric color formation were slower in the PJC obtained from unclarified juice than PJC obtained from clarified juice during storage. © 2012 Wiley Periodicals, Inc

    Bu çalışmada, Van Gölü ve Çevresi önemli patates ekiliş alanlarından Erciş ve Ahlat’ta topraktaki yabancı ot tohumlarının yoğunlukları, rastlanma sıklıkları ve bunların floraya yansıması araştırılmıştır. Erciş ve Ahlat patates ekiliş alanlarında 0-25 cm’lik toprak derinliğinde Amaranthus retroflexus L. ve Portulaca oleracea L. tohumlarının en yoğun türler olduğu saptanmıştır. Topraktaki tohum rezervinin floraya yansıma oranının Erciş’te sadece 2007 yılında %1.2; bunun dışında %1’den düşük olduğu belirlenmiştir.In this study it was investigated in order to determine density of weed seeds and reflection to flora at Ercis and Ahlat. The most common weed species were determined as to Amaranthus retroflexus L. and Portulaca oleracea L. in dept 0-25 cm of soil reservoir at Ercis and Ahlat fields. The ratio of reflection to flora of seed reservoirs in soil is determined lower than 1% as well. But this ratio in Ercis is found 1.2% in 2007
