This study was undertaken to investigate the effect of sex, season and pregnancy on some blood parameters  in Angora rabbits. A total of 45 Angora rabbits (15 males, 15 females and 15 pregnant rabbits), weighing  3.6- 5.3 kg were used in this study. Blood samples were collected from female rabbits in January, April, July  and October, and male and pregnant rabbits in January. Erythrocyte counts and haemoglobin concentrations of pregnant rabbits were lower (p<0.05) than those of  normal non-pregnant rabbits, while mean corpuscular volume in pregnant rabbits was higher (p<0.05) than  those of non-pregnant rabbits. Total leukocyte counts and lymphocyte ratios in pregnant females were lower  (p<0.05) than those of normal non-pregnant rabbits. There were no significant differences (p>0.05) in the  other haematological values between pregnant and non-pregnant rabbits. Total protein, albumin triglyceride,  cholesterol, calcium, and (Inorganic) phosphorus were significantly lower (p<0.05) in pregnant rabbits  than the other females, while the mean glucose level was significantly higher (p<0.05). It was determined  that male rabbits had higher erythrocyte, haemoglobin and glucose values and lower total cholesterol level  than females (p<0.05). Erythrocyte count, haemoglobin concentration, mean corpuscular haemoglobin and  mean corpuscular haemoglobin concentration of female rabbits were lower (p<0.05) in July, whereas hematocrit  level and mean corpuscular volume were higher (p<0.05) in the same month. Leukocyte count and  lymphocyte ratio were significantly lower (p<0.05) in July and October. Albumin level was significantly  higher (p<0.05) in July. Sex and pregnancy as well as season variously affected most haematology and  serum biochemistry variables.

Feynman-Schwinger representation approach to nonperturbative physics

The Feynman-Schwinger representation provides a convenient framework for the cal culation of nonperturbative propagators. In this paper we first investigate an analytically solvable case, namely the scalar QED in 0+1 dimension. With this toy model we illustrate how the formalism works. The analytic result for the self energy is compared with the perturbative result. Next, using a χ2ϕ\chi^2\phi interaction, we discuss the regularization of various divergences encountered in this formalism. The ultraviolet divergence, which is common in standard perturbative field theory applications, is removed by using a Pauli-Villars regularization. We show that the divergence associated with large values of Feynman-Schwinger parameter ss is spurious and it can be avoided by using an imaginary Feynman parameter isis.Comment: 26 pages, 9 figures, minor correctio

Deep Convolutional Generative Adversarial Networks Based Flame Detection in Video

Real-time flame detection is crucial in video based surveillance systems. We propose a vision-based method to detect flames using Deep Convolutional Generative Adversarial Neural Networks (DCGANs). Many existing supervised learning approaches using convolutional neural networks do not take temporal information into account and require substantial amount of labeled data. In order to have a robust representation of sequences with and without flame, we propose a two-stage training of a DCGAN exploiting spatio-temporal flame evolution. Our training framework includes the regular training of a DCGAN with real spatio-temporal images, namely, temporal slice images, and noise vectors, and training the discriminator separately using the temporal flame images without the generator. Experimental results show that the proposed method effectively detects flame in video with negligible false positive rates in real-time

Assessment of cardiac ultrasonography in predicting outcome in adult cardiac arrest

Objective: A prospective follow-up study to evaluate the ability of cardiac ultrasonography performed by emergency physicians to predict resuscitation outcome in adult cardiac arrest patients. METHODS: Ultrasonographic examination of the subxiphoid cardiac area was made immediately on presentation to the emergency department with pulseless cardiac arrest. Sonographic cardiac activity was defined as any detected motion within the heart including the atria, ventricles or valves. Successful resuscitation was defined as any of: return of spontaneous circulation for ≥ 20 min; return of breathing; palpable pulse; measurable blood pressure. RESULTS: The study enrolled 149 patients over an 18-month period. The presence of sonographic cardiac activity at the beginning of resuscitation was significantly associated with a successful outcome (19/27 [70.4%] versus 55/122 [45.1%] patients without cardiac activity at the beginning of resuscitation). CONCLUSIONS: Ultrasono -graphic detection of cardiac activity may be useful in determining prognosis during cardiac arrest. Further studies are needed to elucidate the predictive value of ultrasonography in cardiac arrest patients. © 2012 Field House Publishing LLP

Objective: This study investigated whether electromyelography (EMG) evaluation is helpful in the late phase after surgical treatment of carpal tunnel syndrome (CTS). Methods: This retrospective study included 35 patients who underwent mini-open decompression therapy between 2008 and 2011 with CTS diagnosis. Patients were assessed electrophysiologically and clinically with Patient Evaluation Measurement (PEM) scoring and handgrip, palmar grip, lateral grip, and fingertip grip strength. Additionally, patients' clinical scores and strength values were compared with electrophysiologic values from preoperative and postoperative 4-year controls. Results: According to the Padua classification, EMG data were classified before and after surgery. One patient had extreme grade, four patients had severe grade, 26 patients had moderate grade, and four had a mild grade before surgery. At the postoperative 4th year EMG follow-up, six patients were classified as minimal and 29 as negative. According to the PEM scale, the mean score before surgery was 58.77±7.89, and in the controls at the 4th year after surgery, the mean score was 13.48±4.01. The strength of the operated hand was significantly weaker than that of the contralateral healthy hand before surgery. However, in the controls at the 4th year after surgery, the strength of the operated hand was significantly increased compared with the preoperative period, and there was no significant difference from the contralateral hand. Conclusion: Electrophysiological assessment (EMG) in the late phase after surgical treatment of CTS has positive parallels with clinical assessment and strength assessment. Therefore, we conclude that EMG helps follow late surgical outcomes. © Copyright 2022 by Medical Journal of Bakırköy published by Galenos Yayınev
