A magical way for educatıon: visual literacy

    Get PDF
“Visual literacy is education that enhances understanding of the role and function of images in representation and communication, especially in the media.” (Newfield 2011:82). Debes (1969:27) said that; “ Visual Literacy refers to a group of vision-competences a human being can develop by seeing and at the same time having and integrating other sensory experiences.” Education of visual literacy is important for understanding of true meaning of messages in visual elements. Hobbs (2002 cited from Shurtleff 2006:13) claimed, “Epicureans believed that, in fact, the mind cannot think without images.” Samuels and Samuels (1975 cited from Shurtleff 2006:13) also claimed “the archeological record reveals that the first expressions of thougt are visual, not vocal”. In our daily life, visual technology and media literacy has become increasingly popular in our world. We use when we give information, from websites, give PowerPoint presentations, and sketch on Smartboards to get our memories, ideas across. Teenagers, who have come of age in a technological world , they must learn how they can use visual literacy.Teachers should use, in our age, video games, eager consumers of graphic novels, illustrations, photos, diagrams, graphs, symbols, icons and other visual representations

The Effects of Using Dictionary Notebook in Native Language Education on Students’ Social Lives

Word activities are very important for improving language ability in native language education. If children learn more words, they could read books thoroughly by enjoyment. Teachers use “Dictionary Notebooks” because they are new ways for step by step improvement while students are learning new words. The purpose of this research is to evaluate student’s opinions about “What is the importance of ‘Dictionary Notebooks for them?’”. The study was carried out with sixth-grade students in a middle school in the fall and spring semesters of 2015-2016 academic year at Yenice distirict of Çanakkale province. The research follows the qualitative research paradigm and the data was collected via semi-structured one-on-one interviews with 10 students. Case study design was employed in the current study. One of the researchers is Turkish Language Teacher in the target school. For this reason she interviewed her own students. On the light of our study it can be noted that as a habit formation it is better to start that unknown vocabulary note taking process as much early as possible

A research on Kirghiz students’ before and after their internship period about perceptions of Turkey

Among Turkic speaking countries there is solidarity in economic, political and military fields. Moreover, they carry out common studies within the universities of these countries. As a result, the relationship among the communities is getting stronger via these studies. This research serves as an example of this development. The problem sentence of the research; “Do students’ perceptions change about Turkey after they’ve completed an internship period in Turkey?”. In this research, it was studied to determine Kyrgyz students’ impression about our country Turkey, before and after their intership period in Turkey. The study was implemented within the survey model design. Research’s universe is the students who study in Yusuf Balasagun Krygyz National University, Liberal Arts University (Bugu), in Kyrgyzstan Turkey Manas University during their education in the year of 2018-2019. As for the research sampling, students who are in the city of Antalya for the purpose of internship were selected from Yusuf Balasagun Kyrgyz National University, Liberal Arts University (Bugu), in Kyrgyzstan Manas University. A total of 49 students were attented the research. According to the results of the research; internship students have generally positive opinions about Turkey and Turkish people. This is pleasing result for our country. The students think that the Language Enhancement Program will be useful for them to learn Turkish better

Rational Points in Geometric Progression on the Unit Circle

A sequence of rational points on an algebraic planar curve is said to form an rr-geometric progression sequence if either the abscissae or the ordinates of these points form a geometric progression sequence with ratio rr. In this work, we prove the existence of infinitely many rational numbers rr such that for each rr there exist infinitely many rr-geometric progression sequences on the unit circle x2+y2=1x^2 + y^2 = 1 of length at least 33.Comment: 7 pages, accepted for publication in Publicationes Mathematicae Debrece

Rational sequences on different models of elliptic curves

Given a set S of elements in a number field k, we discuss the existence of planar algebraic curves over k which possess rational points whose x-coordinates are exactly the elements of S. If the size |S| of S is either 4,5, or 6, we exhibit infinite families of (twisted) Edwards curves and (general) Huff curves for which the elements of S are realized as the x-coordinates of rational points on these curves. This generalizes earlier work on progressions of certain types on some algebraic curves

Effects of different pulmonary surfactants in the prevention of postoperative intraabdominal adhesion formation

    Get PDF
Background: After abdominal surgery, the formation of postoperative adhesion is a serious problem. The aim of the study is to evaluate the efficacy of 2 different pulmonary surfactants, poractant and beractant, on adhesion prevention in an experimental model. Materials and Methods: An experimental intraabdominal adhesion model was created in 18 adult female rats by cecal abrasion. The rats were randomly assigned to 3 groups. Group I received no further treatment, whereas groups II and III received intraperitoneal poractant and beractant, respectively, before closing the incision. On the 15th postoperative day, all rats underwent relaparotomy, intraabdominal adhesions were scored macroscopically according to Canbaz scoring system, and the cecum in each animal was evaluated microscopically. Results: The median adhesion scores of group II and III rats were significantly lower when compared with group I (P = .02). Group III had a lower median adhesion score than did group II, but this did not reach significance (P N .05). Conclusion: These observations suggest that intraperitoneal instillation of both pulmonary surfactants is associated with lower adhesion scores, higher adhesion-free cases, and improved histologic findings
