Investigar en el pregrado de ciencias de la salud reporta múltiples ventajas, entre ellas, la revisión de literatura con la comprensión de la medicina basada en evidencia, la participación como investigador en congresos científicos de estudiantes de medicina, la vinculación a una sociedad científica donde pueda aprender y enseñar a investigar, además, el alumno mejora tanto su prestigio personal como su currículum vítae. Al publicar los resultados de lo investigado se desarrolla el pensamiento crítico, se contribuye con la ciencia y también con la producción científica de su institución académica (2).Ávila y Rodríguez-Restrepo (3) aseguran que, desde que inicia su carrera, el estudiante es un investigador en potencia, aunque no lo sepa aún, por el simple hecho de que tenga que buscar, indagar y resolver las dudas que le generan cada día las diversas patologías. Agregan que investigar y publicar en revistas indexadas como estudiante influye, posteriormente, en la contratación docente, la promoción laboral, el salario y el reconocimiento, y contribuye a la competitividad para entrar a residencias o puestos de trabajo, donde puede ser hasta el punto diferencial para lograr la aceptación en una carrera de posgrado

Publicación de las investigaciones de la universidad médica santiaguera en Fórums Nacionales de estudiantes de las Ciencias Médicas

Introduction: despite the growing interest in research training and publication on the part of student body; the production of publications is still low.  Objective: to describe the publication of the research works presented at National Forums of medical students from Santiago de Cuba medical university. Method: a Google Academic search was carried out for the papers presented at the National Forums of medical students during the period 2015 - 2017. Results: only 10% of the researches presented were published; 87, 5 % belonged to original articles; 75 % was published during the year of presentation and up to two years after. The Medisan journal published 50 % of the researches presented. There was a change of authorship in 100 % of the articles.  Conclusions: the publication of the works presented in the National Forums of medical students is low. Strategies should be designed for the correct dissemination of the research works carried out by medical students along with the publication of their results in the scientific journals.  Introducción: a pesar del creciente interés por la formación investigativa y la publicación por parte del estudiantado; la publicación de las investigaciones aún es baja.  Objetivo: describir la publicación de las investigaciones presentadas en Fórums Nacionales de estudiantes de las Ciencias Médicas provenientes de la universidad médica santiaguera.Método: se realizó una búsqueda en Google Académico de los trabajos presentados en Fórums Nacionales de estudiantes de las Ciencias Médicas durante el periodo 2015 – 2017.Resultados: Se encontró publicado el 10 % de las investigaciones presentadas. El 87,5 % de las investigaciones fueron artículos originales; el 75 % se publicó durante el año de presentación y hasta dos años después de esta. La revista Medisan publicó el 50 % de las investigaciones. Existió cambio de autoría en el 100 % de los artículos.Conclusiones: la publicación de trabajos presentados en Fórums Nacionales de estudiantes de las Ciencias Médicas es baja. Deben emplearse estrategias para la correcta divulgación de los resultados de las investigaciones estudiantiles a través de la publicación científica

Ultralight vector dark matter search using data from the KAGRA O3GK run

Among the various candidates for dark matter (DM), ultralight vector DM can be probed by laser interferometric gravitational wave detectors through the measurement of oscillating length changes in the arm cavities. In this context, KAGRA has a unique feature due to differing compositions of its mirrors, enhancing the signal of vector DM in the length change in the auxiliary channels. Here we present the result of a search for U(1)B−L gauge boson DM using the KAGRA data from auxiliary length channels during the first joint observation run together with GEO600. By applying our search pipeline, which takes into account the stochastic nature of ultralight DM, upper bounds on the coupling strength between the U(1)B−L gauge boson and ordinary matter are obtained for a range of DM masses. While our constraints are less stringent than those derived from previous experiments, this study demonstrates the applicability of our method to the lower-mass vector DM search, which is made difficult in this measurement by the short observation time compared to the auto-correlation time scale of DM

Premature Mortality from Colorectal Cancer

Background: colorectal cancer is the third most common form of cancer and the second most important cause of mortality associated with cancer in America. There is a lack of knowledge of the premature mortality behavior from this cause in the Pinar del Río province in the last five years. Objective: to determine the premature mortality tendency from colorectal cancer in Pinar del Río from 2015 to 2019. Method: a retrospective descriptive study was carried out of the total number of prematurely deceased n = 150 due to this neoplasm, for this purpose, the data from the Mortality Registry of the Pinar del Rio Provincial Public Health Department. The variables described were age groups, sex, year of death, municipality of residence and years of life potentially lost. Exploratory data analysis was performed through graphical and mathematical methods of descriptive statistics. Absolute and relative measures were used, as well as summary measures for quantitative and qualitative variables typical of descriptive statistics. Results: the age group 65-69 years (34 %) and the female sex (64 %) were the predominant ones. The mortality linear trend was downward, with the year 2018 being the predominant with 35 cases. The municipality of Pinar del Río stood out with 51 premature deaths and 438 potential years of life lost, however, as an average of years lost, Los Palacios municipality stood out with 13.76 years and the highest risk of dying prematurely corresponded to Guane municipality with 50, 57x100,000 inhabitants.
