    Get PDF
AbstractWe have compared three of the best QRS detection algorithms, regarding their results, to check the performance and to elucidate which get better accuracy. In the literature these algorithms were published in a theoretical way, without offering their code, so it is difficult to check its real behaviour over different collections of ECG records. This work brings the community our source code of each algorithm and results of its validation over a public database. In addition, this software was developed as a framework in order to permit the inclusion of new QRS detection algorithms and also its testing over different databases

There are studies that point out negative relationship between empathy and violent behaviors, disruptive, criminal or aggressiveness. The objective of this study was to design a questionnaire to assess the degree of empathy and violence on the same scale. Methods:To do this,it used a set of 13 items and X sociode-mographic variables, of which 7 of them are rela-ted to empathy and 6 to violence. Initially it used an incidental sample composed of 297 partici-pants (89 men and 208 women) with ages starting at 18 years is used. For the realization of this pilot study, a random sample of 25%was extracted from the initial total sample. Results:Analysis of fre-quencies, reliability, correlations and factorial exploratory analysis was carried out. This yields the extraction of two factors named empathy (factor 1) and violence (factor 2) which explain the 67% of the variance of the original data. As a result, a new Empathy and Violence Questionnaire (CEV), consisting of 8 items and X sociodemo-graphic variables, was created. Conclusions:The CEV confirms that, as a Castilian instrument, it shows some psychometric properties suitable for its utilization in the mental health field, and it suggests steps for future investigation

[EN] Industrial digitization is currently a great challenge which involves continuous advances in tech-nologies such as automation, robotics, internet of things, cloud computing, big data, virtual and augmented reality or cybersecurity. Only those companies able to adapt and with qualified work-ers will be competitive. Therefore, it is necessary to design new environments to train students and workers in these enabling technologies. In this paper, a set of guidelines is proposed to develop a demonstration model on Industry 4.0. Following these guidelines, an existing manufacturing industrial system, based on an electro-pneumatic cell for classifying pieces, is updated to the Industry 4.0 paradigm. The result is an Industry 4.0 demonstration model where enabling tech-nologies are added in an integrated way. In this manner, students do not only train in each technology, but also understand the interactions between them. In the academic year 2020/21, this demonstration model has been used by engineering students in a subject of a master’s degree. Impressions and comments from students about the structure and management of the environ-ment, as well as the influence on their learning process are collected and discussed.SIThis work was supported by the Spanish State Research Agency, MCIN/AEI/10.13039/501100011033 under Grant PID2020-117890RB-I00. Hyaluronic acid (HA) injectable biomaterials are currently applied in numerous biomedical areas, beyond their use as dermal fillers. However, bacterial infections and painful inflammations are associated with healthcare complications that can appear after injection, restricting their applicability. Fortunately, HA injectable hydrogels can also serve as drug delivery platforms for the controlled release of bioactive agents with a critical role in the control of certain diseases. Accordingly, herein, HA hydrogels were crosslinked with 1 4-butanediol diglycidyl ether (BDDE) loaded with cefuroxime (CFX), tetracycline (TCN), and amoxicillin (AMX) antibiotics and acetylsalicylic acid (ASA) anti-inflammatory agent in order to promote antibacterial and anti-inflammatory responses. The hydrogels were thoroughly characterized and a clear correlation between the crosslinking grade and the hydrogels’ physicochemical properties was found after rheology, scanning electron microscopy (SEM), thermogravimetry (TGA), and differential scanning calorimetry (DSC) analyses. The biological safety of the hydrogels, expected due to the lack of BDDE residues observed in 1H-NMR spectroscopy, was also corroborated by an exhaustive biocompatibility test. As expected, the in vitro antibacterial and anti-inflammatory activity of the drug-loaded HA-BDDE hydrogels was confirmed against Staphylococcus aureus by significantly decreasing the pro-inflammatory cytokine levels. This research was funded by the i+Med S. Identification of Smith–Magenis syndrome cases through an experimental evaluation of machine learning methods

    Get PDF
This research work introduces a novel, nonintrusive method for the automatic identification of Smith–Magenis syndrome, traditionally studied through genetic markers. The method utilizes cepstral peak prominence and various machine learning techniques, relying on a single metric computed by the research group. The performance of these techniques is evaluated across two case studies, each employing a unique data preprocessing approach. A proprietary data “windowing” technique is also developed to derive a more representative dataset. To address class imbalance in the dataset, the synthetic minority oversampling technique (SMOTE) is applied for data augmentation. The application of these preprocessing techniques has yielded promising results from a limited initial dataset. The study concludes that the k-nearest neighbors and linear discriminant analysis perform best, and that cepstral peak prominence is a promising measure for identifying Smith–Magenis syndrome
