Lattice-Constrained Parametrizations of Form Factors for Semileptonic and Rare Radiative B Decays

    Get PDF
We describe the form factors for semileptonic B to rho l nu and radiative B to K* gamma decays with just two parameters and the two form factors for semileptonic B to pi l nu decays with three parameters. The parametrizations are constrained by lattice results and are consistent with heavy quark symmetry, kinematic constraints and light cone sum rule scaling relations.Comment: 3 pages, latex, 2 eps files, uses epsf.sty and espcrc2.sty, poster presented at Lattice 97, Edinburgh, 22-26 July 199

Praziquantel (Droncit) is effective against diplostomosis of grasscarp Ctenopharyngodon idella and silver carp Hypophthalmichthys molitrix

    Get PDF
In laboratory experiments praziquantel (Droncit) effectively destroyed metacercariae of Diplostomum spathaceum (s. l.) parasitizing the eye lens of grasscarp Ctenopharyngodon idella and silver carp Hypophthalmichthys molitrix. A single treatment with Droncit fed at a dose of 330 mg kg^-1 body mass showed 100% efficacy against metacercariae parasitizing grasscarp. A similar, complete parasiticidal efficacy was achieved when infected grasscarp and silver carp specimens were exposed to a solution containing 1 mg praziquantel l^-1 for at least 90 h. Using shorter exposures (20 min to 1 h) but elevated praziquantel doses (10 to 100 mg l^-1), some parasites survived but even here the intensity effect reached 67 to 97%

Invariant Submodules and Semigroups of Self-Similarities for Fibonacci Modules

The problem of invariance and self-similarity in Z-modules is investigated. For a selection of examples relevant to quasicrystals, especially Fibonacci modules, we determine the semigroup of self-similarities and encapsulate the number of similarity submodules in terms of Dirichlet series generating functions.Comment: 7 pages; to appear in: Aperiodic 97, eds. Constraining the Distribution of L- & T-Dwarfs in the Galaxy

We estimate the thin disk scale height of the Galactic population of L- & T-dwarfs based on star counts from 15 deep parallel fields from the Hubble Space Telescope. From these observations, we have identified 28 candidate L- & T- dwarfs based on their (i'-z') color and morphology. By comparing these star counts to a simple Galactic model, we estimate the scale height to be 350+-50 pc that is consistent with the increase in vertical scale with decreasing stellar mass and is independent of reddening, color-magnitude limits, and other Galactic parameters. With this refined measure, we predict that less than 10^9 M_{sol} of the Milky Way can be in the form L- & T- dwarfs, and confirm that high-latitude, z~6 galaxy surveys which use the i'-band dropout technique are 97-100% free of L- & T- dwarf interlopers.Comment: 4 pages, 4 figures, accepted to ApJ
