Population-only decay map for n-qubit n-partite inseparability detection

    Get PDF
We introduce a new positive linear map for a single qubit. This map is a decay only in populations of a single-qubit density operator. It is shown that an n-fold product of this map may be used for a detection of n-partite inseparability of an n-qubit density operator (i.e., detection of impossibility of representing a density operator in the form of a convex combination of products of density operators of individual qubits). This product map is also investigated in relation to a variant of the entanglement detection method mentioned by Laskowski and Zukowski.Comment: 5 pages, 1 figure, RevTex4, v2 minor grammatical changes, typos correcte

What do we mean by school entry age? Conceptual ambiguity and its implications: the example of Indonesia

    Get PDF
The age pattern of school entry reflects a complex social and empirical reality that is inadequately captured by a single number. Recognising these complexities in national and international research and policy discourse raises important but neglected questions around the identification of vulnerable groups, the relative value of pre-primary and primary education, as well as the normative powers and responsibilities of governments vis-Ă -vis parents, and the international educational community vis-Ă -vis both. This is illustrated by the example of Indonesia, where the official age norm for primary school entry is widely disregarded in practice, with a majority of children starting school one or even two years earlier. Crucially, it is the compliant children entering at the statutory age who tend to be from more disadvantaged households, and enjoy no benefit in educational outcomes from their greater maturity

Symbolic evaluation of integrals occurring in accelerator orbit theory

    Get PDF
AbstractDefinite integrals which appear in the perturbation theory of a particle's transverse oscillations and chromatic aberrations inside an accelerator are evaluated by symbolic computation. The symbolic program and the automatic FORTRAN coding of the generated functions are described. The results are checked by comparison with those obtained by direct numerical integration. It turns out that, once having established the FORTRAN function subprograms symbolically, their use for different parameters requires much less time than direct numerical integration

Incremental Change in Housing Regimes: Some Theoretical Propositions with Empirical Illustrations

    Get PDF
The durable structures of housing and housing institutions are often subject to long-term processes of incremental change. Nevertheless, housing studies have largely focused either on static snapshots of policies or, more recently, on the inertia of institutional path dependence, while processes of incremental change have been almost entirely neglected. Political scientists (Streeck/Thelen/Mahoney) have proposed a typology of patterns of incremental institutional change, and this paper explores the applicability of this typology to housing structures and housing institutions. We draw on empirical illustrations from the housing literature to show how five types of change – layering, conversion, displacement, drift, exhaustion – apply to housing structures and institutions. We conclude with some general observations on how the typology can be used in further studies of developments in national housing regimes

Disentanglement of two harmonic oscillators in relativistic motion

We study the dynamics of quantum entanglement between two Unruh-DeWitt detectors, one stationary (Alice), and another uniformly accelerating (Rob), with no direct interaction but coupled to a common quantum field in (3+1)D Minkowski space. We find that for all cases studied the initial entanglement between the detectors disappears in a finite time ("sudden death"). After the moment of total disentanglement the correlations between the two detectors remain nonzero until late times. The relation between the disentanglement time and Rob's proper acceleration is observer dependent. The larger the acceleration is, the longer the disentanglement time in Alice's coordinate, but the shorter in Rob's coordinate.Comment: 16 pages, 8 figures; typos added, minor changes in Secs. I and

Poisson and Porter-Thomas Fluctuations in off-Yrast Rotational Transitions

Fluctuations associated with stretched E2 transitions from high spin levels in nuclei around 168^{168}Yb are investigated by a cranked shell model extended to include residual two-body interactions. It is found that the gamma-ray energies behave like random variables and the energy spectra show the Poisson fluctuation, in the cranked mean field model without the residual interaction. With two-body residual interaction included, discrete transition pattern with unmixed rotational bands is still valid up to around 600 keV above yrast, in good agreement with experiments. At higher excitation energy, a gradual onset of rotational damping emerges. At 1.8 MeV above yrast, complete damping is observed with GOE type fluctuations for both energy levels and transition strengths(Porter-Thomas fluctuations).Comment: 21 pages, phyzzx, YITP/K-99

Field efficacy of new compounds to replace copper for scab control in organic apple production

    Get PDF
Efficacy of compounds was investigated in field experiments in Denmark and the Netherlands according to EPPO guidelines. Some Yucca extracts and potassium bicarbonate had an efficacy similar to sulphur on leaves. Addition of sulphur to Yucca 1 and to potassium bicarbonate increased the level of efficacy to that of copper. This confirms results from earlier years. Although a dose increase resulted in better efficacy, this was more prominent for Yucca1 than for potassium bicarbonate
