Emotional Intelligence: Using Relationship Management in Leadership

    Get PDF
The professional world is evolving, and business leaders are required to operate in sometimes difficult situations for which they might feel unprepared. While in recent years, research on emotional intelligence has shown to be an important leadership component, it is not always translated successfully to business leadership nor contextualized to young leaders. This project aims to present a workshop to help people in leadership communicate effectively with their employees using skills stemming from increased emotional intelligence. The workshop draws on a range of literature and experiences in leadership training and emotional intelligence. Key concepts that serve as the focal points of the workshop include self-awareness and relationship management and managing difficult conversations through awareness of communication styles under stress. In addition to addressing these concepts during the workshop, participants will receive information and tools to continue to explore these topics as they develop as leaders. By improving leadership skills, leaders can create environments where employees are comfortable and where vulnerability and communication are encouraged. Such shifts not only create a better working environment, but also create conditions where productivity can thrive

Benchmarking Summarizability Processing in XML Warehouses with Complex Hierarchies

Business Intelligence plays an important role in decision making. Based on data warehouses and Online Analytical Processing, a business intelligence tool can be used to analyze complex data. Still, summarizability issues in data warehouses cause ineffective analyses that may become critical problems to businesses. To settle this issue, many researchers have studied and proposed various solutions, both in relational and XML data warehouses. However, they find difficulty in evaluating the performance of their proposals since the available benchmarks lack complex hierarchies. In order to contribute to summarizability analysis, this paper proposes an extension to the XML warehouse benchmark (XWeB) with complex hierarchies. The benchmark enables us to generate XML data warehouses with scalable complex hierarchies as well as summarizability processing. We experimentally demonstrated that complex hierarchies can definitely be included into a benchmark dataset, and that our benchmark is able to compare two alternative approaches dealing with summarizability issues.Comment: 15th International Workshop on Data Warehousing and OLAP (DOLAP 2012), Maui : United States (2012

Practical workshop that includes presentations and “hands on” use of examples and exercises utilizing the Microsoft Enterprise Consortium hosted at the University of Arkansas Sam M. Walton College of Business Enterprise Systems. Industry partners of the Enterprise Systems program at the Sam M. Walton College of Business have donated computing systems and multiple, large-scale datasets for instructional use – Sam’s Club (6 tables and over 55 million rows of POS transactions for 18 stores), Dillard’s Department Stores (5 tables with a transactions table of 120 million rows), Tyson Foods, and Wal-Mart RFID data sets. This workshop provides faculty “How To’s” that can be incorporated into a wide variety of courses that include topics on databases, data warehousing, business intelligence and decision making. The Microsoft Enterprise Consortium includes the full SQL Server 2008 Management Studio and Business Intelligence Development Studio. Further, this Consortium includes access to the large datasets referenced above plus a number of datasets corresponding to database and data mining texts

    Business Intelligence of Automotive Parts

Business Intelligence (BI) is widely used for reporting, visualization, and predictive analysis. Tools are used to turn data into useful information for making business decisions. Company of automotive parts sales is able to discover what the most favorite spare part is or which customer with the highest sales. Business intelligence helps companies study customer needs to gain deeper insight. In this research, data is extracted from flat files and transformed into dimensional modeling. Data is taken from the part shop and workshop sales transactions from one of the automotive industries in Indonesia. After creating a dimensional model, we construct data visualization and predictive analysis. Data visualization is created for analysis of part shop and workshop sales transactions. The predictive analysis is using simple linear regression modeling to calculate the number of days to fulfill the order goal. Business Intelligence helps the company find data insight such as there is an anomaly in the transaction. The visualization is using data from 2016-2020. Within five years, August is always the highest sales for the part shop sales. Whereas in average, January was the highest month for workshop sales. Although there was a new part that is launched in 2020, it became the second-highest sales. However, that part is a substitute item from another part that hold the highest sales in the previous years. During the pandemic, some large distributors are experiencing a decline in sales, while the small to middle distributors still have stable sales. This research also helps predict the number of days to fulfill the order goal

Project tendering is the construction business “Tightrope-walking.” It is a time-limited balance act where technical and business specialists find the best technical proposal at the right price. The purpose and aim of this study were to explore artificial intelligence (AI) in the tender work and to identify challenges and possibilities with data-driven decision-making. An AI work support tool was adopted and used to extract and process client requirements. The tool and digital-work procedure were presented and discussed with tender specialists from a large contractor in a workshop. A two-step survey was performed in connection to the workshop, investigating the potential users\u27 insights and attitudes for implementation. The main result and conclusion were that AI and digitalization could support tendering; however, successfully generating business value will require higher levels of digitalization, well-structured databases, and access to historical project data
