    Estimation de la fréquence instantanée des signaux FM par opérateur d'énergie Psi_B

    Psi_B energy operator is an extension of the cross Teager-Kaiser energy operator which is an non-linear energy tracking operator to deal with complex signals and its usefulness for non-stationary signals analysis has been demonstrated. In this letter two new properties of Psi_B are established. The first property is the link between Psi_B and the dynamic signal which is a generalization of the Instantaneous Frequency (IF). The second property obtained for frequency modulated signals is a simple way to estimate the IF. These properties confirm the interest of Psi_B operator to track the non-stationary of a signal. Results of IF estimation in noisy environment of a non-linear FM signal are presented and comparison to Wigner-Ville distribution and Hilbert transform-based method is provided

    Binary optical communication in single-mode and entangled quantum noisy channels

    We address binary optical communication in single-mode and entangled quantum noisy channels. For single-mode we present a systematic comparison between direct photodetection and homodyne detection in realistic conditions, i.e. taking into account the noise that occurs both during the propagation and the detection of the signals. We then consider entangled channels based on twin-beam state of radiation, and show that with realistic heterodyne detection the error probability at fixed channel energy is reduced in comparison to the single-mode cases for a large range of values of quantum efficiency and noise parameters

    We discuss a fast cross-Wigner transform based technique for detecting gravitational wave bursts, and estimating the direction of arrival, using a network of (three) non co-located interferometric detectors.     Eigenvalue Distributions for a Class of Covariance Matrices with Applications to Bienenstock-Cooper-Munro Neurons Under Noisy Conditions

    We analyze the effects of noise correlations in the input to, or among, BCM neurons using the Wigner semicircular law to construct random, positive-definite symmetric correlation matrices and compute their eigenvalue distributions. In the finite dimensional case, we compare our analytic results with numerical simulations and show the effects of correlations on the lifetimes of synaptic strengths in various visual environments. These correlations can be due either to correlations in the noise from the input LGN neurons, or correlations in the variability of lateral connections in a network of neurons. In particular, we find that for fixed dimensionality, a large noise variance can give rise to long lifetimes of synaptic strengths. This may be of physiological significance.Comment: 7 pages, 7 figure
