    Stigmas that Exist Regarding Technology

    In looking at technology and how technology affects an individual, research indicates that a number of stereotypes exist about the people that most frequently use technology. A large portion of these stigmas involve the personality or gender of those that work with or use technology. The research that indicates that these stereotypes exist within the field of Information Technology (IT) but does not expand to look at the general population and their use of technology. More specifically, the research has not focused on the individuals who are simply interested in information technology and who are talented in working with technology. The characteristics of these individuals (gender, personality, the generation that they are considered a part of) have been largely understudied; however, variations in characteristics of those who are associated with IT have been examined. Therefore, a gap exists in the research looking at stigmas that affect individuals that utilize and work with technology. Based upon this gap, the question then arises as to whether or not the stigmas that exist in relation to IT apply to those who simply enjoy working with and/or using technology

    Orientasi Minat Siswa SMP dalam Memilih Paket Keahlian di SMK Melalui Bimbingan Konseling

    This research is motivated that the graduates of Junior High School who to continue to Vocational High School feel difficulty in determining the skill package chosen. The purpose of this research is to know the impact of giving guidance and counseling service to junior high school student to match between personality type with skill package option in SMK. Research method using quasi experiment, with instrument of measuring scale of interest online. Interest scale assessment is done by looking at the level of personality type matches with the choice of skill packs. The research procedure begins with pretest of 637 respondents, then sampling convenience method get 90 respondents, divided into 45 students as control group and 45 students as experiment group. The experimental group received treatment in the form of guidance and counseling services based on manuals. Then done posttest to both groups. Data of research result is analyzed with descriptive statistic and t-test with 5 percent error level. The result of the research shows the difference of personality type match with the selection of skill packages between the control group and the experimental group. The data indicate that the category of high match rate in the control group increased by 17.8 percent, while in the experimental group there was an increase of 48,8 percent. The category of moderate match rates in the control group increased by 28.8 percent. The low level of match category in the control group is still high at 64.4 percent, while in the experimental group it is quite small at 22,2 percent. Based in calculation with a 5 percent error rate then the price t arithmatic -4,33 smaller than t table 1,67. Thuse it can be concluded that there are significant differences. Keywords: Vocational Interests, Counseling Guidance, Career Guidance Penelitian ini dilatar belakangi bahwa lulusan SMP yang melanjutkan ke SMK merasa kesulitan menentukan paket keahlian (jurusan) yang dipilih. Tujuan penelitian yaitu untuk mengetahui dampak pemberian layanan bimbingan dan konseling pada siswa SMP terhadap kecocokan antara type kepribadian dengan pilihan paket keahlian di SMK. Metode penelitian menggunakan quasi experiment, dengan instrument alat ukur skala minat online. Penilaian skala minat dilakukan dengan melihat tingkat kecocokan type kepribadian dengan pilihan paket keahlian. Prosedur penelitian diawali dengan pre test terhadap 637 responden. Hasil pre test terdapat 236 siswa dengan tingkat kecocokan rendah. Siswa dengan tingkat kecocokan rendah ini kemudian diambil sebagai sampel dengan metode convenience sampling memperoleh responden sebanyak 90, yang dibagi menjadi 45 siswa sebagai kelompok kontrol dan 45 siswa sebagai kelompok eksperimen. Kelompok eksperimen mendapatkan perlakuan berupa layanan bimbingan dan konseling berdasarkan buku panduan. Kemudian dilakukan post test terhadap kelompok kontrol dan kelompok eksperimen. Data hasil penelitian dianalisis dengan statistic deskriptif dan t-test dengan taraf kesalahan 5 %. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan adanya perbedaan tingkat kecocokan tipe kepribadian dengan pemilihan paket keahlian antara kelompok kontrol dan kelompok eksperimen. Data menunjukkan bahwa kategori tingkat kecocokan tinggi pada kelompok kontrol terjadi peningkatan sebesar 17,8 %, sedangkan pada kelompok eksperimen terjadi peningkatan sebesar 48.8 persen. Kategori tingkat kecocokan sedang pada kelompok kontrol terjadi peningkatan sebesar 17,8 %, sedangkan pada kelompok eksperimen terjadi peningkatan sebesar 28,8 %. Kategori tingkat kecocokan rendah pada kelompok kontrol masih cukup tinggi yakni sebesar 64,4 %, sedangkan pada kelompok eksperimen cukup kecil yakni sebesar 22,2 %. Berdasarkan perhitungan dengan taraf kesalahan 5 % maka harga t hitung -4,33 lebih kecil dari t tabel 1,67. Dengan demikian dapat disimpulkan bahwa terdapat perbedaan yang signifikan. Hal ini membuktikan bahwa pemberian perlakuan berupa bimbingan konseling dengan buku panduan pada kelompok eksperimen dapat meningkatkan kecocokan antara type kepribadian dengan pilihan paket keahlian

    Detection of Students’ Interest With the Logistics Model

    The focus of this research is to analyze the model that classifies student personality type based on demographic factors. This model can identify students’ career interests. It is important to know students’ career interest in accordance with their personalities. For the analysis method, the researchers applied multinomial logistics regression analysis with consideration to the nominal data scale of Holland’s Personality Types, namely realistic, investigative, artistic, social, enterprising, and conventional. Based on the results of the analysis, it can be observed that demographic factors significantly influence the Holland’s Personality Type at the error level 0.1 and the classification accuracy is 41.7%

    Effect of incremental pattern transformation strategy on academic achievement, job task performance and learning satisfaction among vocational trainees

    Acquisition of conceptual and procedural knowledge is often challenging especially when the content deals with symbolic representations whereas not limited to memorizing the symbol but also requires a learner to have multiple factual knowledge associated with the real representation. The aim of this study was to test the effect of using incremental pattern transformation materials (iOST) – theoretically grounded materials - on conceptual and procedural knowledge acquisition among vocational trainees. The iOST was designed to enhance trainees’ learning of symbolic representations in electrical circuit diagrams. The quasi-experimental design method was used with 110 vocational trainees who were taking the vehicle air conditioning course from two vocational training centres. Trainees were divided into three groups, two treatment groups (assigned to paper-based iOST and animation-based iOST) and one control group. The duration of study was six weeks. Pre-test and post-test were used for assessing academic achievement, while practical test and a questionnaire were used for job task performance and learning satisfaction respectively. The ANCOVA, Chi-Square Test and Mann-Whitney U Test were used to test for differences between groups on academic achievement, job task performance and learning satisfaction respectively while the Spearman's rank-order correlation method was used to assess associations between learning satisfaction, conceptual and procedural knowledge. The results show that the experimental groups are better on academic achievement (effect size = .329) and job task performance (effect size = .657) with both groups exhibiting high learning satisfaction. The findings indicate that the iOST materials (irrespective of media) are effective in promoting learning of symbolic representation and support the acquisition of conceptual and procedural knowledge for better task performance. The findings also suggest that, appropriately designed learning materials can support learning and job performance

The sample of the research consisted of 410 volunteer participants who were randomly reached from the population of students registered at Izmir Katip Çelebi University.Two different measurement tools were needed to classify personality types and motivator perceptions in order to collect the necessary data to conduct hypothesis tests that would answer the research questions.
