Wavelet Galerkin method for fractional elliptic differential equations
Under the guidance of the general theory developed for classical partial
differential equations (PDEs), we investigate the Riesz bases of wavelets in
the spaces where fractional PDEs usually work, and their applications in
numerically solving fractional elliptic differential equations (FEDEs). The
technique issues are solved and the detailed algorithm descriptions are
provided. Compared with the ordinary Galerkin methods, the wavelet Galerkin
method we propose for FEDEs has the striking benefit of efficiency, since the
condition numbers of the corresponding stiffness matrixes are small and
uniformly bounded; and the Toeplitz structure of the matrix still can be used
to reduce cost. Numerical results and comparison with the ordinary Galerkin
methods are presented to demonstrate the advantages of the wavelet Galerkin
method we provide.Comment: 20 pages, 0 figure
Wavelet Based Dictionaries for Dimensionality Reduction of ECG Signals
Dimensionality reduction of ECG signals is considered within the framework of sparse representation. The approach constructs the signal model by selecting elementary components from a redundant dictionary via a greedy strategy. The proposed wavelet dictionaries are built from the multiresolution scheme, but translating the prototypes within a shorter step than that corresponding to the wavelet basis. The reduced representation of the signal is shown to be suitable for compression at low level distortion. In that regard, compression results are superior to previously reported benchmarks on the MIT-BIH Arrhythmia data set
Smoothness of multivariate refinable functions with infinitely supported masks
AbstractIn this paper, we investigate the smoothness of multivariate refinable functions with infinitely supported masks and an isotropic dilation matrix. Using some methods as in [R.Q. Jia, Characterization of smoothness of multivariate refinable functions in Sobolev spaces, Trans. Amer. Math. Soc. 351 (1999) 4089–4112], we characterize the optimal smoothness of multivariate refinable functions with polynomially decaying masks and an isotropic dilation matrix. Our characterizations extend some of the main results of the above mentioned paper with finitely supported masks to the case in which masks are infinitely supported
Shift Unitary Transform for Constructing Two-Dimensional Wavelet Filters
Due to the difficulty for constructing two-dimensional wavelet filters, the commonly used wavelet filters are tensor-product of one-dimensional wavelet filters. In some applications, more perfect reconstruction filters should be provided. In this paper, we introduce a transformation which is referred to as Shift Unitary Transform (SUT) of Conjugate Quadrature Filter (CQF). In terms of this transformation, we propose a parametrization method for constructing two-dimensional orthogonal wavelet filters. It is proved that tensor-product wavelet filters are only special cases of this parametrization method. To show this, we introduce the SUT of one-dimensional CQF and present a complete parametrization of one-dimensional wavelet system. As a result, more ways are provided to randomly generate two-dimensional perfect reconstruction filters
