    VoIP Packet Delay Techniques: A Survey

    The continuous development in the field of communication have paved the way for Voice over Internet Protocol (VoIP). VoIP is a group of hardware and software that facilitates people to utilize the Internet as the transmission medium for telephone calls by transmitting voice data in packets using IP instead of using conventional circuit transmissions of the Public Switched Telephone Network (PSTN). At present, VoIP is becoming an important tool for quick communication across the world. There are several Internet telephony applications existing at present. The major disadvantage in VoIP is that the packet delay. In VoIP, the terminology jitter is used to refer the type of packet delay where the delay has a huge setback in the quality of the voice conversation. Several packet delay techniques were proposed in recent years. Some of the important packet delay techniques are discussed in the literature. This survey would definitely help the researchers to carry out their research for providing better communication in VoIP without any delay

    Value Creation in a QoE Environment

    User behavior of multimedia services currently undergoes strong changes. This is reflected in several recent trends, e.g. the increase of rich media content consumption, preferences for more individual and personalized services and the higher sensitivity of end users for quality issues. These changes will eventually lead to strong changes in network traffic characteristics: rising congestion in peak times and less availability of bandwidth for the individual user. As a result, the quality as perceived by the end-user will decrease if network operators and service providers do not anticipate the required changes for the network. Measurable network requirements such as available video and speech quality, security and reliability are addressed by technologies that are commonly summed up in the Quality of Service (QoS) concept. However, the end-users' perception of quality is only reflected in the wider concept of Quality of Experience (QoE). This takes the measurable network requirements into account as well as customer needs, wants and preferences. For the implementation of QoE technologies several network components need to be added or changed resulting in high capital expenditures. Yet, it is not clear if these costs can be compensated with efficiency increases. Thus, new revenue streams for the network operator are necessary to incentivize investments in QoE technologies. In this paper we address four new value creation models that can serve as basis for more elaborated business models for network operators and other actors. We show how interest in QoE of the user, the content provider, the service provider and the advertiser induces new revenue streams. These models are embedded in five possible future QoE scenarios that reveal regulation, end user quality sensibility and end-to-end support as major issues for the future. --Business Models,Quality of Experience (QoE),Quality of Service (QoS),Value Creation

    The following document describes the implementation process of a satellite link using HughesNet DirecWay technology. It is understood as a VSAT system a satellite link with antennas smaller than 2 or 3 meters in diameter, requiring the use of a geostationary satellite to communicate with other similar earth-stations. VSAT are considered an alternate solution for wired or radio communications for remote locations.En el presente documento se describe el proceso de implementación de enlaces satelitales utilizando la tecnología VSAT HughesNet DirecWay. Se entiende como sistema VSAT a aquel enlace satelital que posee antenas cuyo diámetro no sobrepasa los 2 o 3 metros, y que requiere de un satélite geoestacionario para comunicarse con otras estaciones de iguales características.     Due to the strenuous demands on the available spectrum and bandwidth, alongside the ever increasing rate at which data traffic is growing and the poor quality of experience QoE) faced with indoor communications, in order for cellular networks to remain dominant in areas pertaining to voice and data services, cellular service providers have to reform their marketing and service delivery strategies together with their overall network rchitecture. To accomplish this leap forward in performance, cellular service operators need to employ a network topology, which makes use of a mix of macrocells and small cells, effectively evolving the network, bringing it closer to the end-­‐user. This investigation explores the use of small cell technology, specifically Femtocell technology in comparison to the already employed Wi-­‐Fi technology as a viable solution to poor indoor communications.The performance evolution is done by comparing key areas in the every day use of Internet communications. These include HTTP testing, RTP testing and VoIP testing. Results are explained and the modes of operation of both technologies are compared

    Codifying Information Assurance Controls for Department of Defense (DoD) Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) Systems (U)

    Protecting DoD critical infrastructure resources and Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) systems from cyber attacks is becoming an increasingly challenging task. DoD Information Assurance controls provide a sound framework to achieve an appropriate level of confidentiality, integrity, and availability. However, these controls have not been updated since 2003 and currently do not adequately address the security of DoD SCADA systems. This research sampled U.S. Air Force Civil Engineering subject matter experts representing eight Major Commands that manage and operate SCADA systems. They ranked 30 IA controls in three categories, and evaluated eight SCADA specific IA controls for inclusion into the DoD IA control framework. Spearman’s Rho ranking results (ρ = .972414) indicate a high preference for encryption, and system and information integrity as key IA Controls to mitigate cyber risk. Equally interesting was the strong agreement among raters on ranking certification and accreditation dead last as an effective IA control.
