    Augmented Reality in Astrophysics

Augmented Reality consists of merging live images with virtual layers of information. The rapid growth in the popularity of smartphones and tablets over recent years has provided a large base of potential users of Augmented Reality technology, and virtual layers of information can now be attached to a wide variety of physical objects. In this article, we explore the potential of Augmented Reality for astrophysical research with two distinct experiments: (1) Augmented Posters and (2) Augmented Articles. We demonstrate that the emerging technology of Augmented Reality can already be used and implemented without expert knowledge using currently available apps. Our experiments highlight the potential of Augmented Reality to improve the communication of scientific results in the field of astrophysics. We also present feedback gathered from the Australian astrophysics community that reveals evidence of some interest in this technology by astronomers who experimented with Augmented Posters. In addition, we discuss possible future trends for Augmented Reality applications in astrophysics, and explore the current limitations associated with the technology. This Augmented Article, the first of its kind, is designed to allow the reader to directly experiment with this technology.Comment: 15 pages, 11 figures. Accepted for publication in Ap&SS. Virtual and Augmented Reality Simulation of Chattanooga Creek

Virtual reality involves reproducing all the details of a physical object or environment that has to be simulated in virtual space. Augmented reality is the mixing of computer-generated information with the user’s view of the real world. Augmented reality is an alternative for virtual reality. This thesis presents the interactive virtual reality simulation and augmented reality simulation of Chattanooga Creek in Chattanooga, TN. The augmented reality part involves implementation of the basic concept of augmenting the virtual graphics to the real world

What is virtual and augmented reality? First of all, for a better understating what these two terms mean let me give you a definition. Virtual reality – is a simulated experience that can even be out of this world. When augmented reality is some addons to your life. Examples of virtual reality would be you with the help of technology to go out of this world (basically it has no effect on your real life). Examples of augmented reality can be some devices that would give you the opportunity to effect things in the real world

Glove for Augmented and Virtual Reality: Glove for Augmented and Virtual Reality

This work is focused on developing and prototyping a haptic feedback system glove, which will be able to enable interaction of real arm movements with 3D computer models. This glove will be developed using only IMU for human hand data gathering. This approach should increase accuracy of device and give additional flexibility in interaction with different object. For this purpose, IMU should be tested and calibrated using complementary filters. The design and implementation of hardware and software as well as proof-of-concept experiments are presented

    Future of Augmented Reality

Today virtual reality is very popular, but it is used mostly for entertainment. In future augmented reality referred to as the integration of digital information with the user's environment in real time will be the most popular thing in the world. Referring to these definitions, unlike virtual reality, which creates a totally artificial environment, augmented reality uses the existing environment and overlays new information on the top. By this way our life can become more interesting and informative. With the help of advanced AR technology (e.g. adding computer vision and object recognition) the information about the surrounding real world of the user becomes interactive and digitally manipulated information about the environment and its objects is overlaid in the real world
