Energy Efficient Routing Algorithm in Wireless Sensor Networks
This Wireless sensor network (WSN) is widely considered as one of the most important technologies for the twenty-first century, it provides the availability of small and low-cost sensor nodes with the ability of sensing different types of physical and environmental conditions, data processing, and wireless communication. Sensor nodes have a limited transmission range, and their processing and storage capabilities as well as their energy resources are also limited. Thus, optimized routing algorithms for wireless sensor networks should be utilized in order to maintain the routes in the network and to ensure reliable multi-hop communication under these conditions.
요약 i

Feasibility of wireless horse monitoring using a kinetic energy harvester model
To detect behavioral anomalies (disease/injuries), 24 h monitoring of horses each day is increasingly important. To this end, recent advances in machine learning have used accelerometer data to improve the efficiency of practice sessions and for early detection of health problems. However, current devices are limited in operational lifetime due to the need to manually replace batteries. To remedy this, we investigated the possibilities to power the wireless radio with a vibrational piezoelectric energy harvester at the leg (or in the hoof) of the horse, allowing perpetual monitoring devices. This paper reports the average power that can be delivered to the node by energy harvesting for four different natural gaits of the horse: stand, walking, trot and canter, based on an existing model for a velocity-damped resonant generator (VDRG). To this end, 33 accelerometer datasets were collected over 4.5 h from six horses during different activities. Based on these measurements, a vibrational energy harvester model was calculated that can provide up to 64.04 mu W during the energetic canter gait, taking an energy conversion rate of 60% into account. Most energy is provided during canter in the forward direction of the horse. The downwards direction is less suitable for power harvesting. Additionally, different wireless technologies are considered to realize perpetual wireless data sensing. During horse training sessions, BLE allows continues data transmissions (one packet every 0.04 s during canter), whereas IEEE 802.15.4 and UWB technologies are better suited for continuous horse monitoring during less energetic states due to their lower sleep current
Power Adaptive Data Encryption for Energy-Efficient and Secure Communication in Solar-Powered Wireless Sensor Networks
Basic security of data transmission in battery-powered wireless sensor networks (WSNs) is typically achieved by symmetric-key encryption, which uses little energy; but solar-powered WSNs sometimes have sufficient energy to achieve a higher level of security through public-key encryption. However, if energy input and usage are not balanced, nodes may black out. By switching between symmetric-key and public-key encryption, based on an energy threshold, the level of security can be traded off against the urgency of energy-saving. This policy can also reduce the amount of energy used by some nodes in a WSN, since data encrypted using a public-key is simply relayed by intermediate nodes, whereas data encrypted using a symmetric-key must be decrypted and reencrypted in every node on its path. Through a simulation, we compared the use of either symmetric-key or public-key encryption alone with our scheme, which was shown to be more secure, to use energy more effectively, and to reduce the occurrence of node blackouts
Preliminary Study on the Potential of Harvesting Energy from Malaysian Road Pavement
Unused energy occurred at the pavement in the form of solar radiation, vibration and
stress have the potential to be converted into more useful energy mainly into
electrical energy. It is an alternative way to produce renewable energy source for
electricity generation in order to replace the depleting non-renewable energy
resources. This paper is to review and evaluate different methods of harvesting
energy from road pavement as well as to identify the most promising method to be
used for Malaysia road. Evaluation on the efficiency and cost-analysis are done
based on the information of current harvesting energy technologies which are
piezoelectric and photovoltaic energy harvesters. Secondary data such as average
daily traffic (ADT) in Malaysia expressways and average annual solar radiation in
Malaysia are collected in order to identify the real potential of harvesting energy
from Malaysia pavement

Energy Harvesting on Pavement: A Review
Rapid urbanization has increased the Malaysian economy’s dependence on imports of fossil fuels such as oil, petroleum, and natural gas for energy output. Excessive use of fossil fuels contributes to high greenhouse gas emissions and this causes climate change and affects the ecological balance. Therefore, energy generation through harvesting technology is much needed to improve the ecological balance. The process for energy harvesting begins with capturing and accumulating the wasted energy then storing it to be used later. According to a study conducted by the World Economic Forum, roads in Malaysia are among the best in the world on par with Korea and better than some of the European countries. Malaysia’s road network that connects the states, districts, and villages are also growing every year for the convenience of the people. Good road structure throughout Malaysia can give benefit the country by using it as an energy source. The energy sources that can be exploited from the pavement are solar radiation, mechanical energy generated from moving vehicles or pedestrians, and geothermal energy. This paper analyzes key issues in pavement energy harvesting and proposing the best energy harvesting technique for Malaysia climate. The keys issues were addressed accordingly and gaps that existed in the field were presented. The outcomes of the review are brief in a concise manner
Perpetual battery life for Machine to Machine communication devices with cellular access
The advent of Machine to Machine (M2M) communication has opened up new avenues for the mobile operators and also for the equipment vendors. The ecosystem of communication is fast emerging in to a new dimension. However to make the new realm of M2M communication feasible, there is a need to reduce the power consumption of these devices.
Research is being carried out in several directions to reduce the power consumption. Research work has been done to develop new network topologies, architecture and also improve the electronics and embedded systems to reduce power consumption. This thesis explores the third direction which is concerned with developing a prototype using the existing electronics and cellular access techniques to explore the possibility of improving power consumption. This is concerned also with using energy harvesting for recharging the battery supplies. The development of the prototype is aimed at using a CPU, cellular access device and rechargeable power system to develop M2M device with battery time in terms of years.
We will be using the concept of sleeping devices to enable infinite battery times. The aim of the research is to find sleep times which may lead to sufficiently longer battery times and hence provide a prototype of M2M device with energy harvesting solution capable to have independent power source for years
