    ERP implementation success is influenced by a large number of factors. User involvement and participation is one of the most cited critical success factors in ERP implementation projects, and one of the most critical ones for their satisfactory outcome. This study attempts to define a set of metrics for monitoring user involvement and participation within ERP implementation projects by using the Goals/Questions/Metrics method. First, a literature review is presented. Second, a framework for monitoring user involvement and participation in ERP implementation projects is proposed.     The influence of user participation attributes on e-government implementation success in developing countries: a study of Uganda

    This paper examined the influence of user participation attributes on e-government implementation success in Uganda. The quantitative data were collected through a survey of 277 employees from three Ministries (ICT, Finance and Works) in Uganda and was analysed using PLS-SEM aided by Smart PLS3. Using Stakeholder theory as a primary theory for addressing user participation who are key stakeholders and UTAUT to capture the technology usage of egovernment users. Findings revealed that user participation attributes have a significant positive influence on e-government implementation success in Ugandan context. Findings from the Smart PLS assessment measurement model portended that user participation attributes have a statistical positive relationship on e-government implementation success in Uganda. Therefore, policy makers, managers, Information System developers, electronic service providers, and egovernment implementers should consider involving end-users in active e-government implementation process. This ensures accountability, transparency, trust in electronic-services and online-information from the central government to the users, among other benefits. These findings contribute to sparse literature of user participation in e-government implementation success in developing nations hence providing empirical foundation for future academia. More so, all stakeholders of e- government implementation work towards curbing the factors affecting and hindering end-users from active participation in e-government implementation in Uganda

    The Impact of User Participation on the Success of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) Adoption in Bangladesh

    The successful adoption of Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems is crucial for organizations to enhance operational efficiency and gain a competitive edge. User participation has been recognized as a key factor in determining the success of ERP implementation. This study aims to investigate the impact of user participation on ERP adoption success in the context of Bangladesh. The specific objectives include assessing the relationship between user participation and work performance, understanding/proficiency, user-friendliness, and training/support. Additionally, the influence of organizational factors, such as organizational value, guidelines/procedures, and resource/support availability, on user participation is examined. The study also explores the impact of user participation on compatibility with existing organizational processes and alignment with strategic goals. The findings reveal that user participation significantly influences work performance, understanding/proficiency, user-friendliness, and training/support. Organizational factors and strategic alignment play important roles in facilitating user participation. The results emphasize the need to foster user participation, provide adequate training and support, promote organizational values, and align strategic goals for successful ERP adoption in Bangladesh. These insights contribute to a better understanding of the factors that drive ERP implementation success and provide guidance for organizations in Bangladesh and similar contexts

    User participation in IS implementation is a core topic for the IS community. While most of our current participation theories emerged in the 1990s and 2000s, recent developments such as the emergence of large half-built products and the increased emphasis on digital transformation necessitate revisiting current understanding of participation. User participation is not anymore about merely representing the organization\u27s domain knowledge - what we call representative participation. Users participating in modern IS implementation projects need to possess additional types of knowledge and skills. This includes knowledge about the products, knowledge about the intended transformation, and leadership skills, to name a few. We investigate this emerging type of user participation - what we call transformative participation through a case study of an IS implementation project within healthcare. We discuss the knowledge and skills needed to function as transformative users as well as the challenges faced by these users

    Examination of the Relationship between User Participation and Technology Acceptance in Post-Implementation

    Implementing information technology (IT) systems to support organizational effectiveness and enhance efficiencies is increasingly costly, challenging, and has a low success rate. Many researchers have explored user technology acceptance as a key to successful implementation of IT systems. Research on characteristics inherent to the implementation process can aid interventions designed to enhance user technology acceptance. User participation is a process characteristic that has been linked to IT system success and user satisfaction before and during implementation. Using data from 131 survey respondents, the current study investigated the relationship between user participation and technology acceptance in the post-implementation phase of an IT system. Analysis showed that user participation via hands-on learning activities and relationship with information systems (IS) staff had a positive impact on user affective and cognitive technology acceptance. Results suggest that the more users maintain a relationship with IS staff and take part in hands-on learning activities related to an IT system, the more they will like the IT system and perceive benefits of using the particular system. Findings and directions for future research and intervention development are discussed

    Using Action Research To Identify Unexpected Factors Affecting CRM Implementation

    No action research has been conducted regarding the status of CRM implementation in the public institution sector. This study aims to identify rare or unexpected contextual, organizational, and individual factors behind the CRM implementation at a state SBDC. For this purpose, interview data was collected from 19 consultants of the state SBDC. Surprisingly this CRM implementation is considered particularly successful even though it involved only internal user participation for the individual factors. To be successful, CRM implementation must involve internal and external user participation. Our findings about internal user participation contradict the previous research. During the progression of the qualitative analysis, other rare or unexpected factors to the CRM implementation literature were found. These are: accreditation review pressure for the contextual factors and legal and licensing agreement feasibility for the organizational factors.

    Enabling effective user participation in ERP implementation: A case study on the role of brainstorming sessions

    This research investigates the role of brainstorming sessions in promoting effective user participation in ERP implementation. An exploratory case study was conducted, with the data analysis based on the grounded theory approach and the findings organized in a theoretical model. Results show that brainstorming sessions were instrumental for effective user participation, resulting in high levels of users’ psychological involvement and proactive participation behaviors. Brainstorming transformed both the subject and formality of user participation, featuring the users in the center of stage to lead the reflection and sharing in a personally meaningful and relevant manner. Senior management push and consultant support were also identified as factors affecting the success of brainstorming
