    A new QoS Routing Architecture in NGI

    After a thorough understanding of the relevant research knowledge and the key theory of NGN, I describe the research objectives and the recent development of the QoS routing in this thesis. QoS routing is regarded as the key part in the problem of the next generation of integrated-service network. A new routing algorithm is put forward in this thesis, which is better than OSPF in some aspects. As for the experiment, NS2 is chosen as the simulation environment, and some other experimental results are also included to manifest its strongpoint. The development and requirement of NGN is described in Chapter One; The definition and types of routing and the basic theories of QoS routing are described in Chapter Two; The development and research method of QoS are focused in Chapter Three. The new routing algorithm and simulation is proposed in Chapter Four

    A green intelligent routing algorithm supporting flexible QoS for many-to-many multicast

    The tremendous energy consumption attributed to the Information and Communication Technology (ICT) field has become a persistent concern during the last few years, attracting significant academic and industrial efforts. Networks have begun to be improved towards being “green”. Considering Quality of Service (QoS) and power consumption for green Internet, a Green Intelligent flexible QoS many-to-many Multicast routing algorithm (GIQM) is presented in this paper. In the proposed algorithm, a Rendezvous Point Confirming Stage (RPCS) is first carried out to obtain a rendezvous point and the candidate Many-to-many Multicast Sharing Tree (M2ST); then an Optimal Solution Identifying Stage (OSIS) is performed to generate a modified M2ST rooted at the rendezvous point, and an optimal M2ST is obtained by comparing the original M2ST and the modified M2ST. The network topology of Cernet2, GéANT and Internet2 were considered for the simulation of GIQM.     The field of shared virtual environments, which also encompasses online games and social 3D environments, has a system landscape consisting of multiple solutions that share great functional overlap. However, there is little system interoperability between the different solutions. A shared virtual environment has an associated problem domain that is highly complex raising difficult challenges to the development process, starting with the architectural design of the underlying system. This paper has two main contributions. The first contribution is a broad domain analysis of shared virtual environments, which enables developers to have a better understanding of the whole rather than the part(s). The second contribution is a reference domain model for discussing and describing solutions - the Analysis Domain Model

    Learning algorithms for the control of routing in integrated service communication networks

    There is a high degree of uncertainty regarding the nature of traffic on future integrated service networks. This uncertainty motivates the use of adaptive resource allocation policies that can take advantage of the statistical fluctuations in the traffic demands. The adaptive control mechanisms must be 'lightweight', in terms of their overheads, and scale to potentially large networks with many traffic flows. Adaptive routing is one form of adaptive resource allocation, and this thesis considers the application of Stochastic Learning Automata (SLA) for distributed, lightweight adaptive routing in future integrated service communication networks. The thesis begins with a broad critical review of the use of Artificial Intelligence (AI) techniques applied to the control of communication networks. Detailed simulation models of integrated service networks are then constructed, and learning automata based routing is compared with traditional techniques on large scale networks. Learning automata are examined for the 'Quality-of-Service' (QoS) routing problem in realistic network topologies, where flows may be routed in the network subject to multiple QoS metrics, such as bandwidth and delay. It is found that learning automata based routing gives considerable blocking probability improvements over shortest path routing, despite only using local connectivity information and a simple probabilistic updating strategy. Furthermore, automata are considered for routing in more complex environments spanning issues such as multi-rate traffic, trunk reservation, routing over multiple domains, routing in high bandwidth-delay product networks and the use of learning automata as a background learning process. Automata are also examined for routing of both 'real-time' and 'non-real-time' traffics in an integrated traffic environment, where the non-real-time traffic has access to the bandwidth 'left over' by the real-time traffic. It is found that adopting learning automata for the routing of the real-time traffic may improve the performance to both real and non-real-time traffics under certain conditions. In addition, it is found that one set of learning automata may route both traffic types satisfactorily. Automata are considered for the routing of multicast connections in receiver-oriented, dynamic environments, where receivers may join and leave the multicast sessions dynamically. Automata are shown to be able to minimise the average delay or the total cost of the resulting trees using the appropriate feedback from the environment. Automata provide a distributed solution to the dynamic multicast problem, requiring purely local connectivity information and a simple updating strategy. Finally, automata are considered for the routing of multicast connections that require QoS guarantees, again in receiver-oriented dynamic environments. It is found that the distributed application of learning automata leads to considerably lower blocking probabilities than a shortest path tree approach, due to a combination of load balancing and minimum cost behaviour

    A Review of the Energy Efficient and Secure Multicast Routing Protocols for Mobile Ad hoc Networks

    This paper presents a thorough survey of recent work addressing energy efficient multicast routing protocols and secure multicast routing protocols in Mobile Ad hoc Networks (MANETs). There are so many issues and solutions which witness the need of energy management and security in ad hoc wireless networks. The objective of a multicast routing protocol for MANETs is to support the propagation of data from a sender to all the receivers of a multicast group while trying to use the available bandwidth efficiently in the presence of frequent topology changes. Multicasting can improve the efficiency of the wireless link when sending multiple copies of messages by exploiting the inherent broadcast property of wireless transmission. Secure multicast routing plays a significant role in MANETs. However, offering energy efficient and secure multicast routing is a difficult and challenging task.     Optimized resource distribution for interactive TV applications

    This paper proposes a novel resource optimization scheme for cloud-based interactive television applications that are increasingly believed to be the future of television broadcasting and media consumption, in general. The varying distribution of groups of users and the need for on-the-fly media processing inherent to this type of application necessitates a mechanism to efficiently allocate the resources at both a content and network level. A heuristic solution is proposed in order to (a) generate end-to-end delay bound multicast trees for individual groups of users and (b) co-locate multiple multicast trees, such that a minimum group quality metric can be satisfied. The performance of the proposed heuristic solution is evaluated in terms of the serving probability (i.e., the resource utilization efficiency) and execution time of the resource allocation decision making process. It is shown that improvements in the serving probability of up to 50%, in comparison with existing resource allocation schemes, and several orders of magnitude reduction of the execution time, in comparison to the linear programming approach to solving the optimization problem, can be achieved
