Consists primarily of the distributing, buying, selling, marketing and servicing of products or services over electronic systems such as the Internet and other computer networks. It can involve electronic funds transfer, supply chain management, e-marketing, online marketing, online transaction processing, electronic data interchange (EDI), automated inventory management systems and automated data collection systems. It typically uses electronic communication technology such as the Internet, extranet, e-mail, e-books, database, and mobil phones. All these are usually used in tourism activity. E-commerce was initially used for advertising the products and services offered by the tour- operators. At present this way of commerce is more and more used by the potential tourists. Romanian tourism agencies and tour-operators have begun to line at the global trends and they are building the sites, not only for information, but also for selling touristic products and services. For example, in September 2006, from 695 ANAT’s (National Association for Tourism Agencies) members, 657 (94.53%) have an e-mail and 435 (62.59%) have sites.E-commerce; Tourism; Reservations; Site.

Predicting the socio-technical future (and other myths)

A snooker ball model implies that simple, linear and predictable social change follows from the introduction of new technologies. Unfortunately technology does not have and has never had simple linear predictable social impacts. In this chapter we show that in most measurable ways, the pervasiveness of modern information and communication technologies has had little discernable ?impact? on most human behaviours of sociological significance. Historians of technology remind us that human society co-evolves with the technology it invents and that the eventual social and economic uses of a technology often turn out to be far removed from those originally envisioned. Rather than using the snooker ball model to attempt to predict future ICT usage and revenue models that are inevitably wrong, we suggest that truly participatory, grounded innovation, open systems and adaptive revenue models can lead us to a more effective, flexible and responsive innovation process

Emerging trends on the topic of Information Technology in the field of Educational Sciences: a bibliometric exploration

    Get PDF
The paper presents a bibliometric analysis on the topic of Information Technology (IT) in the field of Educational Sciences, aimed at envisioning the research emerging trends. The ERIC data base is used as a consultation source; the results were subjected to productivity by authors, journals, and term co-occurrence analysis indicators for the period 2009-2013. The productivity of Computers & Education, and Turkish Online Journal of Educational Technology-TOJET, as well as the preceding authors from Canada, have been emphasized. The more used terms are the following: Information technology, foreign countries, educational technology, technology integration, and student attitudes. Researches performed here seem to have a largely qualitative character, highlighting computers and internet as the mostly explored technological objects. The largest subject matter trend refers to the integration of IT in the higher education learning context, and its incidence over the teaching methods

Mobile Internet in Agriculture (HajdĂş-Bihar) Survery

    Get PDF
For the purpose of analyzing mobile Internet user expectations we have gone through a series of structured interviews. There are two parts of this analysis: we have talked with experts and farmers. In this paper we present the results of the survey conducted in July and August 2006, based on interviews with the experts. Experts are more or less aware of the technology (and related services) but neither at the workplace, nor at home do they use it. Some progress can be seen, but it is slow and in many areas (for example having an own website, keeping touch through Internet) there is much to learn and advance

Deer Herd Management Using the Internet: A Comparative Study of California Targeted By Data Mining the Internet

    Get PDF
An ongoing project to investigate the use of the internet as an information source for decision support identified the decline of the California deer population as a significant issue. Using Google Alerts, an automated keyword search tool, text and numerical data were collected from a daily internet search and categorized by region and topic to allow for identification of information trends. This simple data mining approach determined that California is one of only four states that do not currently report total, finalized deer harvest (kill) data online and that it is the only state that has reduced the amount of information made available over the internet in recent years. Contradictory information identified by the internet data mining prompted the analysis described in this paper indicating that the graphical information presented on the California Fish and Wildlife website significantly understates the severity of the deer population decline over the past 50 years. This paper presents a survey of how states use the internet in their deer management programs and an estimate of the California deer population over the last 100 years. It demonstrates how any organization can use the internet for data collection and discovery
