Multimedia in Teacher Education: Perceptions & Uses

Educational systems around the world are under increasing pressure to use the new technologies to teach students the knowledge and skills they need in the 21st century. Education is at the confluence of powerful and rapidly shifting educational, technological and political forces that will shape the structure of educational systems across the globe for the remainder of this century. Many countries are engaged in a number of efforts to effect changes in the teaching/learning process to prepare students for an information and technology based society. Multimedia provide an array of powerful tools that may help in transforming the present isolated, teacher-centred and text-bound classrooms into rich, student-focused, interactive knowledge environments. The schools must embrace the new technologies and appropriate multimedia approach for learning. They must also move toward the goal of transforming the traditional paradigm of learning. Teacher education institutions may either assume a leadership role in the transformation of education or be left behind in the swirl of rapid technological change. For education to reap the full benefits of multimedia in learning, it is essential that pre-service and in-service teachers have basic skills and competencies required for using multimedia. This paper, therefore, explores the latent benefit of using multimedia tools particularly in professional teacher education. The paper also discusses why pre-service teachers need to use multimedia technologies within the context of students familiar, technology-rich living spaces to develop their own teaching skills and the technology skills of their students. In addition, the author also explains the role of multimedia in enhancing the 21st century skills. Keywords: Multimedia, Teacher Education,, Pre Service Teachers, 21st Centur

It is undeniable that technological progress, especially the amount, availability, and speed of information acquisition, has an impact on people, their habits, behavior, decision-making, management style; in a word – their lives. The main driver is “Big Data”, and as a result, business intelligence is advancing rapidly, transforming an evergrowing amount of data into meaningful and useful information for effective management. The number of Croatian companies using business intelligence in some form is increasing, and more and more are using it for controlling purposes. The time needed to collect and process data is shortening, so the role and tasks of the controller are changing in favor of activities with higher added value. However, there is a gap beetween existing and required skills, which imposes the need for additional IT knowledge in order to create a new profession necessary for more efficient and successful businesses. The aim of this paper is to investigate the state and application of information systems, i.e. ERP and BI systems, and the impact of education on their usefulness in controlling. Considering the relatively low representation of controlling in Croatian companies, 44 controllers from large and medium-sized companies in the Republic of Croatia participated in the survey. The results show the increasing independence of the controlling department compared to its previous connection with finance and accounting. Although sophisticated information systems are experiencing growth, the number of those using advanced business intelligence capabilities is still low, indicating the need for additional investment in the development or acquisition of information systems, as well as in education. Faster, simpler and more detailed analysis is an advantage of using business intelligence, but it requires additional education, usually independent, to better understand and apply information solutions in controlling. Using the scientific research method, it was confirmed that the application of ERP and BI systems and related education play a significant role in the performance of controller activities aimed primarily at effective reporting

The Next Decade of Online Learning in Higher Education: Blue Ocean Strategies for the Design and Delivery of Graduate IS Programs

The market demand for online learning continues to increase and so do online enrollments in higher education. Online learning is gaining a strategic focus among academic leaders while at the same time we are seeing an emergence of new and innovative models of information systems (IS) graduate programs and instruction delivery methods. Given these trends, what does the future hold? What are our “blue oceans”? The objective is to engage in a conversation about how technology is changing teaching and learning in higher education and specifically, in the design and delivery of graduate degree programs in IS. An international panel with members representing academic administrators, faculty, and online learning researchers will share their perspectives about the progress and direction of online learning. The overarching questions are: How are online technologies transforming higher education for the better or worse? As IS educators, what are our blue oceans

Ubiquitous computing: a learning system solution in the era of industry 4.0

Ubiquitous computing, which was initially advocated by Mark Weiser has become one of the keywords to express a vision of the near future of computing systems. The "ubiquitous world" is a ubiquitous computing environment with integrated networks; computer integrated manufacturing system (CIMS) and invisible computers which equipped sensor microchips and radio frequency identification systems. Anyone can access the ubiquitous computing systems anytime and anywhere broader, without individual awareness or skills. Ubiquitous computing is becoming crucial elements to organize the activities of groups of people by use of groupware under workforce mobility. The computer-supported cooperative work is transforming from telework to ubiquitous work with new information and communication technologies that support people working cooperatively. Ubiquitous learning is a demand for the knowledge workforce for more multi-skilled professionals. It is a new and emerging education and training system that integrating e-learning of cyberspace and mobile learning of physical space with a global repository that has the potential to be accessed by anyone at any place and anytime under ubiquitous integrated computing environment. In this paper, we discuss the study of emerging trends through the implementation of work and learning that influenced ubiquitous computing technology prospects. Furthermore, the perspective of ubiquitous work and learning system, gaining quality, and hence credibility with emerging information and communication technologies in education and training systems in the area of the education system are discussed. The experimental results showed that CIMS could improve the students learned more efficiently and achieved better learning performance

IT-based learning called e-learning is the process of transforming conventional education into digital form. Use of e-learning as a medium of learning is based on the characteristics of e-learning consists of non-linearity, self-managing, Feedback, interactivity, multimedia-style Leaners, Just in Time, Dynamic Updating, Accesibility and Colaborative Learning Easy. Using a descriptive design with questionnaires as research instruments. The number of sample of 100 respondents with a student population of the semester study program Information Systems 5 (five). It was concluded that the use of e-learning as a medium of learning at the University of Bina Darma in condition Quite Satisfied with the percentage of 60%. Eight characteristics: Non-linearity, self-managing, Just in Time, and Easy Self Accesibility already satisfied the conditions. While the characteristics of the feedback, interactivity, multimedia-style Leaners, Dynamic Updating, and Colaborative Learning has not satisfied the conditions. This series explores the evolution of primary care systems to better meet the needs of consumers with complex health conditions. It demonstrates that changes in the workforce are required to empower consumers to better manage their health. The series is a collaboration of the National Academy for State Health Policy and the AARP Public Policy Institute. We recognize that it takes a team of skilled professionals to deliver improved chronic care. In this series, we focus on how registered nurses -- who make up the largest segment of the health care workforce -- are being deployed in ambulatory delivery systems to take on new roles. Future series will focus on other members of the health care team.We selected six initiatives that offer replicable policy strategies to develop, implement, and sustain patient-centered approaches to care. Each case study highlights one of these initiatives and provides policy recommendations and an "on-the-ground" look at the work of its nurses
