    A Three-Level Process Framework for Contract-Based Dynamic Service Outsourcing

    Service outsourcing is the business paradigm, in which an organization has part of its business process performed by a service provider. In dynamic markets, service providers are selected on the fly during process enactment. The cooperation between the parties is\ud specified in a dynamically made electronic contract. This contract includes a process specification that is tailored towards service matchmaking and crossorganizational process enactment and hence has to conform to specific market and specification standards. Process enactment, however, relies on intraorganizational process specifications that have to comply with the infrastructure available in an organization. In this position paper, we present a three-level process specification framework for dynamic contract-based\ud service outsourcing. This framework relates the two process specification levels through a third, conceptual level. This approached is inspired by the well-known ANSI-SPARC model for data management. We show how the framework can be placed in the context of infrastructures for cross-organizational process support

    A survey of QoS-aware web service composition techniques

    Web service composition can be briefly described as the process of aggregating services with disparate functionalities into a new composite service in order to meet increasingly complex needs of users. Service composition process has been accurate on dealing with services having disparate functionalities, however, over the years the number of web services in particular that exhibit similar functionalities and varying Quality of Service (QoS) has significantly increased. As such, the problem becomes how to select appropriate web services such that the QoS of the resulting composite service is maximized or, in some cases, minimized. This constitutes an NP-hard problem as it is complicated and difficult to solve. In this paper, a discussion of concepts of web service composition and a holistic review of current service composition techniques proposed in literature is presented. Our review spans several publications in the field that can serve as a road map for future research

    A Constrained Object Model for Configuration Based Workflow Composition

    Automatic or assisted workflow composition is a field of intense research for applications to the world wide web or to business process modeling. Workflow composition is traditionally addressed in various ways, generally via theorem proving techniques. Recent research observed that building a composite workflow bears strong relationships with finite model search, and that some workflow languages can be defined as constrained object metamodels . This lead to consider the viability of applying configuration techniques to this problem, which was proven feasible. Constrained based configuration expects a constrained object model as input.     Collaborative recommendations with content-based filters for cultural activities via a scalable event distribution platform

    Nowadays, most people have limited leisure time and the offer of (cultural) activities to spend this time is enormous. Consequently, picking the most appropriate events becomes increasingly difficult for end-users. This complexity of choice reinforces the necessity of filtering systems that assist users in finding and selecting relevant events. Whereas traditional filtering tools enable e.g. the use of keyword-based or filtered searches, innovative recommender systems draw on user ratings, preferences, and metadata describing the events. Existing collaborative recommendation techniques, developed for suggesting web-shop products or audio-visual content, have difficulties with sparse rating data and can not cope at all with event-specific restrictions like availability, time, and location. Moreover, aggregating, enriching, and distributing these events are additional requisites for an optimal communication channel. In this paper, we propose a highly-scalable event recommendation platform which considers event-specific characteristics. Personal suggestions are generated by an advanced collaborative filtering algorithm, which is more robust on sparse data by extending user profiles with presumable future consumptions. The events, which are described using an RDF/OWL representation of the EventsML-G2 standard, are categorized and enriched via smart indexing and open linked data sets. This metadata model enables additional content-based filters, which consider event-specific characteristics, on the recommendation list. The integration of these different functionalities is realized by a scalable and extendable bus architecture. Finally, focus group conversations were organized with external experts, cultural mediators, and potential end-users to evaluate the event distribution platform and investigate the possible added value of recommendations for cultural participation

    Ligipääsetavus avaliku sektori veebilehtedele on hiljuti tunnistatud üheks eesmärgiks nii Euroopa liidu kui ka muude valitsuste poolt. Selleks, et ligipääsetavuse astet mõõta, on võetud mõõdupuuks WCAG 2.0 juhised, mille järgimise hindamine on pooleldi automatiseeritud. Kõikide kriteeriumite hindamine vajab siiski veel palju inimtööjõudu ja subjektiivsust. Inimressursi kokkuhoidmiseks piiratakse hindamine enamasti mõne leheküljeni iga domeeni kohta. Antud lõputöös püütakse parendada automatiseerimist: esiteks uuritakse inimhindajate strateegiat, teiseks analüüsitakse, kas suurema arvu lehtede hindamine ühes domeenis\n\rmõjutab lõplikku hinnangut. Eksperimentaalsed tulemused näitavad, et inimeste hindamine on lähemal pooleldi lubavale ja keelavale strateegiale.\n\rKõrgema arvu lehtede hindamine ei mõju positiivselt hindamise täpsusele võrreldes inimeste hinnangutega.Accessibility of public sector Web sites has been recently recognized as one of the objectives of governments of EU member states and countries\n\relsewhere. In order to measure in which extent the accessibility has been achieved, WCAG 2.0 guidelines have been adopted as a benchmark measure.\n\rAlthough conformance to the guidelines has been partially automated, there is still a lot of human effort and subjectivity involved in the evaluation process. Furthermore, due to human involvement, evaluation is mostly narrowed down to a limited set of Web pages of a domain under evaluation. This study aims to make another step toward evaluation automation by 1) reverse-engineering strategies of humans evaluators and 2) analyzing whether higher number of evaluated Web pages will have positive effect to the final ranking. The experimental results show that human ranking is closer to semi-permissive and restrictive evaluation strategies. Furthermore, we show that higher number of evaluated pages will not have positive impact on the evalution precision wrt human rankings

    Aggregation and Adaptation of Web Services

    Service-oriented computing highly supports the development of future business applications through the use of (Web) services. Two main challenges for Web services are the aggregation of services into new (complex) business applications, and the adaptation of services presenting various types of interaction mismatches. The ultimate objective of this thesis is to define a methodology for the semi-automated aggregation and adaptation of Web services capable of suitably overcoming semantic and behaviour mismatches in view of business process integration within and across organisational boundaries. We tackle the aggregation and adaptation of services described by service contracts, which consist of signature (WSDL), ontology information (OWL), and behaviour specification (YAWL). We first describe an aggregation technique that automatically generates contracts of composite services satisfying (behavioural) client requests from a registry of service contracts. Further on, we present a behaviour-aware adaptation technique that supports the customisation of services to fulfil client requests. The adaptation technique can be used to adapt the behaviour of services to satisfy both functional and behavioural requests. In order to support the generation of service contracts from real-world service descriptions, we also introduce a pattern-based compositional translator for the automated generation of YAWL workflows from BPEL business processes. In this way, we pave the way for the formal analysis, aggregation, and adaptation of BPEL processes

    Pathways: Augmenting interoperability across scholarly repositories

    In the emerging eScience environment, repositories of papers, datasets, software, etc., should be the foundation of a global and natively-digital scholarly communications system. The current infrastructure falls far short of this goal. Cross-repository interoperability must be augmented to support the many workflows and value-chains involved in scholarly communication. This will not be achieved through the promotion of single repository architecture or content representation, but instead requires an interoperability framework to connect the many heterogeneous systems that will exist. We present a simple data model and service architecture that augments repository interoperability to enable scholarly value-chains to be implemented. We describe an experiment that demonstrates how the proposed infrastructure can be deployed to implement the workflow involved in the creation of an overlay journal over several different repository systems (Fedora, aDORe, DSpace and arXiv).Comment: 18 pages.
