Physics and computer science: quantum computation and other approaches

Neuronal Correlation Parameter in the Idea of Thermodynamic Entropy of an N-Body Gravitationally Bounded System
Understanding how the brain encodes information and performs computation requires statistical and functional analysis. Given the complexity of the human brain, simple methods that facilitate the interpretation of statistical correlations among different brain regions can be very useful. In this report we introduce a numerical correlation measure that may serve the interpretation of correlational neuronal data, and may assist in the evaluation of different brain states. The description of the dynamical brain system, through a global numerical measure may indicate the presence of an action principle which may facilitate a application of physics principles in the study of the human brain and cognition
The hard start phenomena in hypergolic engines. Volume 1: Bibliography
A bibliography of reports pertaining to the hard start phenomenon in attitude control rocket engines on Apollo spacecraft is presented. Some of the subjects discussed are; (1) combustion of hydrazine, (2) one dimensional theory of liquid fuel rocket combustion, (3) preignition phenomena in small pulsed rocket engines, (4) experimental and theoretical investigation of the fluid dynamics of rocket combustion, and (5) nonequilibrium combustion and nozzle flow in propellant performance
Compact Yb optical atomic clock project: design principle and current status
We present the design of a compact optical clock based on the 435.5 nm transition in Yb. The ion trap will
be based on a micro-fabricated circuit, with surface electrodes generating a
trapping potential to localize a single Yb ion a few hundred m from the
electrodes. We present our trap design as well as simulations of the resulting
trapping pseudo-potential. We also present a compact, multi-channel wavelength
meter that will permit the frequency stabilization of the cooling, repumping
and clear-out lasers at 369.5 nm, 935.2 nm and 638.6 nm needed to cool the ion.
We use this wavelength meter to characterize and stabilize the frequency of
extended cavity diode lasers at 369.5 nm and 638.6 nm.Comment: 7 pages, 5 figures. Proc. of the 8th FSM 2015, Potsdam, Germany. To

Structural properties of crumpled cream layers
The cream layer is a complex heterogeneous material of biological origin
which forms spontaneously at the air-milk interface. Here, it is studied the
crumpling of a single cream layer packing under its own weight at room
temperature in three-dimensional space. The structure obtained in these
circumstances has low volume fraction and anomalous fractal dimensions. Direct
means and noninvasive NMR imaging technique are used to investigate the

A Bibliography on the Application of GIS in Archaeology and Cultural Heritage
Geographical Information Systems (GIS) applications to archaeological projects of different scales, chronological contexts and cultural milieux has accrued by now a long history and bibliography. Hopefully the phases of experimentation and almost blind testing are over, even if GIS applications are still sometimes being labeled as “new technologies”
