WebGIS-based Natural Disaster Information System of China
We have constructed China natural disaster information system utilizing open source WebGIS framework. Through comparisons and researches on different WebGIS system structures, implementation patterns, spatial database management patterns and several popular software, open source WebGIS platform MapServer, PostgreSQL+PostGIS (spatial database and spatial data engine), client-side browser framework openLayer were used. This system have basic function of web information publishing, spatial data storage and management, and it collects natural disaster information that have been publishing on the internet through grabing internet information, and based on the analysis to the text information, different kinds of natural disaster information databases were constructed. Additionally, locations of the disaster occurred were combined to provide map services, and the system is able to meet multi-user access issues, and have functions of thematic mapping, query and statistics, charting and output, et.al
Mapping cyberspace: visualising, analysing and exploring virtual worlds
In the past years, with the development of computer networks such as the Internet
and world wide web (WWW), cyberspace has been increasingly studied by
researchers in various disciplines such as computer sciences, sociology, geography,
and cartography as well. Cyberspace is mainly rooted in two computer technologies:
network and virtual reality. Cybermaps, as special maps for cyberspace, have been
used as a tool for understanding various aspects of cyberspace. As recognised,
cyberspace as a virtual space can be distinguished from the earth we live on in many
ways. Because of these distinctions, mapping it implies a big challenge for
cartographers with their long tradition of mapping things in clear ways. This paper,
by comparing it to traditional maps, addresses various cybermap issues such as
visualising, analysing and exploring cyberspace from different aspects
Collaborative Mapping of London Using Google Maps: The LondonProfiler
This paper begins by reviewing the ways in which the innovation of Google Maps has transformed our ability to reference and view geographically referenced data. We describe the ways in which the GMap Creator tool developed under the ESRC National Centre for E Social Science programme enables users to ‘mashup’ thematic choropleth maps using the Google API. We illustrate the application of GMap Creator using the example of www.londonprofiler.org, which makes it possible to view a range of health, education and other socioeconomic datasets against a backcloth of Google Maps data. Our conclusions address the ways in which Google Map mashups developed using GMap Creator facilitate online exploratory cartographic visualisation in a range of areas of policy concern
The last five years of Big Data Research in Economics, Econometrics and Finance: Identification and conceptual analysis
Today, the Big Data term has a multidimensional approach where five main characteristics stand out: volume, velocity, veracity, value and variety. It has changed from being an emerging theme to a growing research area. In this respect, this study analyses the literature on Big Data in the Economics, Econometrics and Finance field. To do that, 1.034 publications from 2015 to 2019 were evaluated using SciMAT as a bibliometric and network analysis software. SciMAT offers a complete approach of the field and evaluates the most cited and productive authors, countries and subject areas related to Big Data. Lastly, a science map is performed to understand the intellectual structure and the main research lines (themes)
Map online system using internet-based image catalogue
Digital maps carry along its geodata information such as coordinate that is important in one particular topographic and thematic map. These geodatas are meaningful especially in military field. Since the maps carry along this information, its makes the size of the images is too big. The bigger size, the bigger storage is required to allocate the image file. It also can cause longer loading time. These conditions make it did not suitable to be applied in image catalogue approach via internet environment. With compression techniques, the image size can be reduced and the quality of the image is still guaranteed without much changes. This report is paying attention to one of the image compression technique using wavelet technology. Wavelet technology is much batter than any other image compression technique nowadays. As a result, the compressed images applied to a system called Map Online that used Internet-based Image Catalogue approach. This system allowed user to buy map online. User also can download the maps that had been bought besides using the searching the map. Map searching is based on several meaningful keywords. As a result, this system is expected to be used by Jabatan Ukur dan Pemetaan Malaysia (JUPEM) in order to make the organization vision is implemented
Development of Distributed Research Center for analysis of regional climatic and environmental changes
We present an approach and first results of a collaborative project being carried out by a joint team of researchers from the Institute of Monitoring of Climatic and Ecological Systems, Russia and Earth Systems Research Center UNH, USA. Its main objective is development of a hardware and software platform prototype of a Distributed Research Center (DRC) for monitoring and projecting of regional climatic and environmental changes in the Northern extratropical areas. The DRC should provide the specialists working in climate related sciences and decision-makers with accurate and detailed climatic characteristics for the selected area and reliable and affordable tools for their in-depth statistical analysis and studies of the effects of climate change. Within the framework of the project, new approaches to cloud processing and analysis of large geospatial datasets (big geospatial data) inherent to climate change studies are developed and deployed on technical platforms of both institutions. We discuss here the state of the art in this domain, describe web based information-computational systems developed by the partners, justify the methods chosen to reach the project goal, and briefly list the results obtained so far

Optimal information foraging provides a potentially useful framework for modelling, analysing, and interpreting search strategies of users through a spatial-semantic interface.
